It was an early saturday morning. Unlike most students who were just getting up, Jane was wide awake, doing a little extra reading in the library. She was always an early bird, anyway. She glided happily through each corridor, carrying two books in one arm. She was on her way back to the Ravenclaw common room to put the books she borrowed in her dorm room. She assumed it was almost time for breakfast. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw something peculiar. A statue of a House Elf, sitting next to a wall. "Well, that's sort of interesting." She muttered. Jane opened 'Myths and Histories of Hogwarts', a book she checked out. "'Tap the House Elf near the Ravenclaw common room three times...' I suppose it is worth a shot." She set the books down on the floor next to her, and took out her wand. It was an ash 12¼ unicorn hair wand. She tapped it againts the statue's nose. Nothing. "Oh. Well, that's what I get for-- OH MY GOSH." When Jane looked back at the statue, it started to shake and slide towards the side. "Wow!" She grinned. She had never seen anything so amazing. Behind the large statue was a long spiraling staircase. She looked at each side of the corridor, checking to see if anyone was there. She inched her way towards the staircase, her voice echoing. "This is awesome." She walked up the staircase, forgetting her books laying in front of the large House Elf. |

Early rising students in the Slytherin common room was something very unusual - A rare occurrence. In fact, Alice wouldn't be surprised whether other houses thought they were all Vampires. Though this, Alice couldn't help reminding herself, was true in one certain case. Alice let her thoughts wonder, her sleep deprived mind less hostile and angry, for once. She hadn't slept all night and, although she had still managed to get frustrated enough to set a Hufflepuff first years robes on fire, she was actually much calmer than usual. Or as calm as a pure blood with an attitude problem, rebelling against society in general, who was an insomniac and had a fascination with fire, could be. She was striding down one of the many corridors in the north tower, wondering around aimlessly, though her walking speed would lead others to believe she was heading towards somewhere in particular. This was nothing unusual for Alice. She kept up an illusion most of the time. Sometimes she wondered if anyone realized that her addiction to rule breaking was just so that she could rebel against everything. It was, in way, a front. A defense. She liked to represent herself as the troublemaker, the Fray family’s biggest mistake as she was - without a doubt - a disgrace. Alice liked it that way. But, this caused a problem. She had a strong belief that she was fooling everybody. Or was she? Could anyone actually see beneath her attitude problems? Or maybe no one cared enough to try... Alice lost her temper with herself at this point. Blocking out yet more pangs of weak emotion that she was determined to ignore. She had barely taken another step when she heard a shout and the sound of stone grinding against each other slowly. Much like how the main staircases sounded when they moved. Then she saw the source of the sound. Narrowing her eyes, Alice walked to the end of the corridor. A stack of books had been left before what Alice could see was a hidden staircase. "Do you know you shouldn't be here!" Alice barked, her voice stern in a perfect imitation of an outraged teacher (she had been shouted at enough times to know the tone of voice to use). She smirked, wondering how the student would react. She very much hoped she was the 'goody two shoes’ type. It would be more fun that way. |

"This is amazing..." Jane whispered loudly. She found herself standing on top of a tower. "My books!" She realized, her feet making only quiet tapping noises as she walked down the spiraling stairs. "Do you know you shouldn't be here!" Someone shouted. Jane froze in the middle of the stair case. She had gotten into trouble before. For being curious, mostly. Ugh! I'm so stupid. This was such a bad idea. "Uhm, okay! I'm going to the Great Hall now. I was just-- Uh..." Her voice trailed off. She reached the bottom of the stairs to find a Slytherin student. Jane scowled. |

Alice laughed, folding her arms so her silver bracelets clinked lightly. The Ravenclaw student’s reaction had been even better than she expected. Alice smiled slyly, tilting her head a little to the side so her many silver ear piercings glinted in the sunlight that was shining in to the corridor. " Who would have thought it? A Ravenclaw of all people misbehaving." Alice smirked, her tone patronising. She took a step back and, without making an effort to be polite; she slid the girl’s books to her across the floor using the tip of her black converse-clad feet. "Did you come across this all by yourself?" Alice asked lazily (but from force of habit she sounded more demanding, than politely asking). Though she was reluctantly intrigued, she hid it well behind a bored expression. Alice vaguely recalled the girl’s name – Jane - as she had seen her somewhere around the castle before. |

The Slytherin girl was being utterly rude. Jane didn't like it, but she didn't mind. Didn't mind right now, anyway. "Who would have thought it? A Ravenclaw of all people misbehaving." The girl said in a tone Jane did not enjoy hearing. Jane was even more suprised when the girl kicked her books. "Did you come across this all by yourself?" Maybe she's trying to be helpful. No. Impossible. Jane thought as she bent down to pick up her books. "Well, no. I was reading about it in one of the books I checked out." She refrained from hissing. It wouldn't be polite. "I tend to get curious... Which gets me into trouble sometimes." She has decided to be the better one of the two. Once again, her plans did not work. "What are you doing here, anyway?" She barked, her eyes narrowing. "I'm sorry," she pulled out a smile. It was her last attempt at making friends, "my name's Jane. And you are?" |

Jane, the Ravenclaw girl was still being polite, despite Alice's far from friendly greeting. Hardly surprising though, any other student that wasn't a Slytherin seemed to avoid being rude and only Gryffindors really seemed willing to fight back. Admittedly, Alice couldn't falter her courage. This girl was still here and hadn't run off like Alice had expected. Well, she hadn't run off yet. Jane still had time to see what Alice could be really like. Her bad temper being one of the main things Jane should worry about. "Ah, of course. You're a Ravenclaw bookworm aren't you." Alice nodded, thoughtfully. It wasn't a question. It was a statement. How else might a Ravenclaw have come across a secret passage way? Gryffindors generally came across them from being too impulsive, Hufflepuffs just came across them by accident and Slytherins did whatever they wanted most of the time, they would probably blackmail and backstab anyone to get what they wanted. Alice knew this from experience. "I'm Alice." She replied shortly, never mentioning her second name (the name of her stupid, pureblood family), which was now just force of habit. Alice glanced from Jane's face for a moment, letting a heavy silence hang in the air as she glanced up the staircase that had been hidden behind the house elf statue. She felt even more intrigued and, whether or not Jane intended to ’allow’ her to explore the hidden passage way, Alice intended to anyway. "So, are you going to stand around looking like you’re lost, or do you want to go and see where this leads. Unless of course," Alice added, her tone turning suddenly challenging, ready for any argument that may come her way. "You’re scared of a big bad Slytherin like me?" She raised an eyebrow, her tone was patronising. She was interested to see if Jane's courage would hold up and she wouldn't mind being (or at least acting as if she didn’t mind being) accompanied by Alice. |

Jane cautiously looked from each end of the corridor. Nobody was there. Well, she checked last time, and Alice here still found her. Jane scanned the floor to see if she had left anything to give away who they were. She didn't want to give away her position yet again. She nodded at Alice. "Let's go." [ooc: ahh wicked short post.] |

Alice smiled, without her usual mocking edge, but only very briefly. She didn't like dropping her defenses, which kept people at arms length. At least, not with people she had only just engaged in conversation. She shrugged indifferently, returning back to her normal, slightly cold attitude, not entirely ready to drop her guard. " After you." Alice inclined her head towards the stairs, her amber eyes glinting in a way that made it clear she wasn't offering to be polite; Alice avoided having her back to people whenever possible. Even if she had known the person all her life - for example her family (though, considering their hate-filled relationship, this wasn’t surprising) - she didn't feel she could completely trust anyone with the advantage of having her facing the opposite direction. Not even her closest friends and especially not someone she didn't know very well. Alice wasn't paranoid; she just considered trust to be a weak emotion that she couldn’t afford to become habit. [ooc: ah ha, I've retaliated with my own wickedly short post :P] |
