I've just bought a 1978 FS1, completely original which hasn't been run for 35 years. It was run for 350 miles, stripped down and boxed up and put into storage in someones attic.
It was then forgotten until a couple of years ago when it was put back together again and recently put on the market. I bought it not running and took a punt on it as its so origional.

I've not had chance to really look over it yet but the inside of the tank is really rusty and I need a way of cleaning it without affecting the paintwork on the outside. It's not concourse but is all original so for now thats how I intend on keeping it. There's no spark either so I need to get to the bottom of that but at the minute I've no time. The tan.k is the one I'd like to sort out first so i would really appreciate any advise as to the best way of cleaning it out.

Thanks

I believe that many on here have used the vinegar treatment on rusty tanks.
Basically, but lots of bottles of Tesco or similar, cheapest vinegar. Around 17p a bottle the last time I looked. Fill the tank to the brim, and leave it for a week or two, I think.
Ive never done it, but many have and the swear by it.

As for lack of spark, and assuming you've a new plug fitted, then the points may have closed up, been set wrongly or a cable has come off.

I used this

http://yambits.co.uk/fs1e-fuel-tank-cleaner-liner-kit-p-11229.html

But be very, very careful, as I spilt a little acetone around the lip of the filler cap and my paintwork bubbled :X so needed a re spray, but it did the job and tank now sealed
