Thanks Mech. I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that's all's well and there's little else to be done. The bike is 39 yrs old(!!), and in truth has a non standard barrel (@ 42mm), which may also be poorly 'ported' - who knows.
I suspect another mph or two will appear with use, but at the end of the day if I need a bit more speed I'll jump on one of the other bikes in the stable..... the Fizzy was bought as so iconic / relevant to my younger days - and it serves this perfectly. Massive fun to have & to own, just looking at it raises the grin.
Cheers & thanks,
Simon
Lobo,

Are you still having problems with nipping up or slow top speed? I bought my fizzy in 2013 and it suffered same as yours - I was also running a cheep after market barrel.

This summer I fitted a Nicasil 60cc barrel with decent ports, and even with a standard after market 43mm piston it now flies - over 50mph on a good stretch. Today my 16 year old lad rode it to Taunton and back (over 40 miles) without any hint of a nip-up, and he topped 50 sitting up on a number of occasions.

If your still having trouble don't lose heart, maybe consider a better quality barrel.

Good luck.
