Morn all. My 1974 #394 Crankshaft thread was certainly once owned by a 16yo - it's barely holding the 16mm nut. Can anyone advise the best route to go here? Wrt a new crankshaft, can you advise the difference in part #s 355-11400-00 & 35511400-01 (later FS1-E) I note many sellers either quote availability of 1978 onwards (whatever) or just "Pattern Fizzy Crankshaft" for sale - inferring it'll fit all models. Help please? Ta, Simon |

If the thread is completely mangled, then its a new crankshaft. Usually, the threads get damaged by hammer blows and these can be restored with a thread file. An alternative would be to drill and tap the end and put a cap head screw in, ive seen that done. A fizzy crankshaft will fit all models, the difference is in rotary valve end. The early crankshafts have a splined end and the later, a keyway. |

Ah, Thanks Chashor. Mine 'a a splined key way, so hopefully easier to find a replacement. Mot'd / rode it last week - it's first outing since SORN'd in 1986. Bloody great! Simon |

The new cranks available now are generally the key way type. You can use one of those but will have to change to the key way type gear pinion as well. |
