http://www.ypvspares.com/Yamaha_FS1E_16mm_Carburettor_Cable_Choke/p1208263_5518040.aspx I have just fitted one of these, but I am not going to let the old one go until I have tested the new one and know it is OK ! |

The pattern carb I fitted a number of years ago is still working fine, but had to be completely rejetted. The main jet was marked 150, but was visibly too small and the pilot jet was undersized as well. The pilot jet from the original carb was a straight swap, but the main jet was a different thread. I had to fit one of the round slotted mikuni jets rather than the standard small hex type. I could have swapped over the whole needle jet assembly, but that was one of the bits that was badly worn. |

Martin at YPVS is aware of the jetting issue and modifies the carbs to accept a standard Yamaha jet which he fits to the carbs before he sells them. |

My pattern carb wasn't from YPVS and was bought in 2007, but the origin may be the same of course. The original mikuni hex jets are 1BA, which strangely is an imperial thread. The pattern needle jet was threaded metric M5 x 0.75 to accept the main jet. Which is close to 1BA, but not quite enough. The mikuni round jets are M5 and fit ok. However to add to the confusion they are sized differently. Hex type is measured by flow rate and round type by diameter. Allens Performance chart suggests a 150 hex jet is approximately equivalent to a 105/110 round jet. I played safe and started big, reducing size until the bike ran clean. I think I ended up with a 115 fitted. http://www.allensperformance.co.uk/jetsizeconv.html |
