I had mine in the tank over winter. It must have been over 6 months old. Took the bike out and it was a bit flat and tickover was poor [standard tune bike]. Put some fresh in the other week and it was much better. Also, I took the tank off and gave it a good flush out, as I was fitting a fuel filter. Even though I had shook the bike side to side + front to back to mic the 2T, there was quite a residue of unmixed 2T came out of the tank. Consequently, even though I am not an expert of fuel, my opinion would be to swap the fuel each riding season if you dont get through a whole tank - use the waste for cleaning parts and starting bonfires with a bang.

One of my bikes last topped up in November 09 for Ace run, is as flat as a witches .... I think this is stale fuel. They do say that if its kept in a plastic can, it goes off sooner that it would in an old fashioned metal type one. Incidentally, chaps I know who race classic bikes, insist on only using Shell fuel saying it has been proven to be better than the supermarket stuff. |
