Hi Everyone

After a year long restoration I started up my Pop Purple up today. Took a few kicks but got there in the end.

All the electrics are working OK, lights, flashers, neutral light, horn etc etc, but when I tried to switch her off she kept going.

Even took the key out but the engine was still running.

Has anyone got any idea what the problem maybe?

Cheers
Nick

Yes, the black wires need sorting out. One comes up from the engine, one comes from the ignition coil and one comes from the ignition switch and they should all join up ! If one is missing it is like you are hot wiring it!

Thanks Guys.

I'll have a look at the black wires maybe tomorrow and see if I can sort the problem. I'll let you know how I go on.

Cheers

Hello Again

All the 3 black wires are joined up correctly but the engine still wont switch off, so I assume its an earth problem.
My frame is powder coated so that maybe the problem, trouble is though all the others electrics are working OK, so would the earth problem be where the coil is bolted onto the frame or somewhere else?

The ignition switch itself needs a good earth. In the off posistion The Black wire from the ignition shorts down to earth through the ignition body.

Hi Guys

I've sorted the problem out, It was the coil that wasn't earthed properly.

The engine now switches off as it should!

Thanks for all the advice.

Nick
