help!!!! the big end bearing on my crank was siezed so i decided to have the crank split because i have a new big end bearing. the trouble is the engineering firm can't split it because the pin isn't moving and the crank is bending so much it will crack. i am thinking of getting a new crank (£60 off ebay )but there doesn't seem to be a spline on the clutch side to take the helical drive which dives the clutch drum. can anyone shed any light on this. thanks here is the link........http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/YAMAHA-FS1E-FS1-E-DX-CRANKSHAFT-NEW-169815_W0QQitemZ390012573643QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Motorcycle_Parts?hash=item5ace8f97cb |

I think the engineering firm are telling you porky pies, I've built hunderds of cranks and never had the flywheels bend I've had the seperating plates bend. Normaly if you get the press up to 8-10 ton and wollop the bed with a copper mallet the shock is enough to move the pin or use a kettle of boiling water with a bowl under neath. To fit the crank pictured you will need to fit the primary gear from a later fs1. |

Hi All, Going back to the original question - what about the splines for the drive pinion? All the images of the cranks for sale dont seem to have splines - is this because they are generic/stock photos or does no-one do the splined version [for a 394 engine]. The reason I ask is because the crank in the engine I bough recently has been sat rusting for ages, and I would rather just buy a new crank. Edited by gygergyger, Mar 8 2010, 09:19 PM.

I've not seen a 394 type crank for sale on the aftermarket they're always the late ones. You can convert to the late type primary drive and the parts are or were still available new from Yamaha. |

Thanks Flika. Does anyone have a diagram like Fig 1.5 (Crankshaft, piston and disc valve) from the Haynes book of lies so I can see what would need swapping to convert to the new style of crank? Does the new style of crank have the pin to take the collar to drive the disk valve - i.e is it only the splines on the end for the drive pinion that are different, thus just needing a different drive pinion? |

The new style crank does have the hole for the disc valve drive pin, you need the late type primary gear and the woodruff key to convert it to your engine. |

Nice one - thanks ballintur. I didnt have the link to CMS - I obviously dont get out enough. Question is, do many/most people convert to the new crank or do they get the old cranks refurbed? Wonder what MarkG of RR does? |

There are a few of us running these, mines holding together so far 18+hp and 15k+rpm, the stuffers offer a nice increase in primary compression and the amount of vibes are reduced. |
