To continue the Purple Peril story................

Today I was outside annoying the neighbours with my gold Fizz running continuously whilst trying to take voltage measurements to sort out the non-charging issues when.......

I thought, "I know, I'll get the Purple Peril out and check the voltages on that one cos I know everything works correctly so I can compare the two".

WRONG !!!!!!!!!!!!

I start the Purple Peril up and it has no tail light and no speedo light, just the headlight when the lights are switched on !.

So I take the rear lens off and check/change the bulb but that's fine. Then I press the brake pedal and notice that the slimmer 5w tail light filament is lighting up instead of the 21w brake light filament

After much messing around and a bit of trial and error I finally worked out that it was just an earth problem. If I held a wire from the rear bulb chassis to the same frame earth used by the battery, low and behold the tail light came on (on the correct filament) and the brake light also worked on the correct filament :o .

What a weird set of faults caused by just an earth ?.

I've also replaced the speedo bulb, so all electrics are working on on the Purple Peril for now ;)

Just a new carb to find for it now.

Yeah ta, I am watching that carb but not sure without an ultrasonic clean or similar it will be any better than the original one ?.

It's currently running fine on a borrowed pull choke carb from Nat and I also have a brand new pattern cable choke carb coming from Darrell at 50ccTuning.

I'll see how it goes with the new pattern carb and maybe get the original one ultrsonically cleaned, as I can't see what else could be wrong with it other than a hidden blockage ?. When I swap the clabling back over when the new carb arrives I will just try the original one again now I have re-cleaned it.

Cheers ;)
