Cheers all - my name is Jens, a 40 y.o. caucasian male nerd writing from Linköping, Sweden lol !! Got tons of questions, but I´m polite so introductions first ... I am sooo happy to have found this place, a panel of broad expertise obviously - perfect for a "beginner"; had one when I was fifteen n now I´m back on the 50cc twostroke that I spent so much time with and have all that fun n memories attached to it ...feels great. In Sweden U might be considered a nerd/wanker - excuse my language :-D if your 40 yo and driving a "moped" ... but to me it´s rather a motorcycle, a small one yes but still, and just as fun n almost the same freedom - if one chooses to tune it somewhat, what I like to refer to as liberating the engine to its native constellation, n then some .. perhaps ...yes!? .. but of course !!! Bare with me in my limping english, n feel free to correct me ... thanks ! I got my bike very cheap a few weeks ago, around 80 pounds/1000 kronor, so it looks like **** n needs alot of attention n affection, there might be pictures soon should anyone be interested. Model: it´s sometime after 1980, gonna check som lists for details, frame number etc. My budget is limited - on the dole now - so its gonna be restored in stages, first one being - frame functioning, brakes etc security in performance, riding safely - and of course getting the engine to run "proper", liberatingly so ... hehe. Drumbrakes back n front, the 9 liter gastank, the boringly nice handlebar non TT style, the switches and controls divided to both sides on the handlebar unlike most of you blokes i suppose!?, paintjob looks like a mess. Saddle all rusted where it should attach to the frame - any ideas except buying a new one, the cover looks ok.. But the really big issue - for me being inexperienced in these matters - an almost non-existing electrical system as we speak, only ignition - how´s that for some good backbreaking (not brokebacking.. you b-ard lol..) hours of blood, sweat, tears and toil ... sometimes buying cheap is expensive right, yes I now - but there it is anyway, or rather isn´t I suppose... those are my limiting factors - doing the best I can within these limits seems to me as a nice challenge to engage in, most of the time.. Engine so far: 43mm boring, cheap iron cylinder n piston that goes with it, 16,5 mm mikuni, fixed intake to about 18mm, original steel reeds with the stoppers slightly bent out and slightly cut off in the ends, new clutch parts - the ones that tear.. !? - harder springs with a washer beneath each for xtra strenght, old sloppy crankshaft, old bearings everywhere so far but the one in the piston when I changed cylinder. 39 back n 14 front, new hard-wearing chain for security for when the engine runs a bit better with some more power to it. Classic ignition parts fly-wheel magneto ... a universal model expansion system exhaust with 32 mm attach to cylinder. Nothing is finetuned yet, neither ignition nor carb, just getting started ... I´ve reached about 70km/h in good conditions so far with reasonable rpm. Of course I want the bike to look good, but to me first things first; performance and handling, getting everything to run and work properly, electrical-frame-engine. That would probably motivate me further to achieve som finish to it as far as looks go. Ok thanks for listening, thats all for now. Drive safe. Looking forward to getting in on all the know-how here if U accept nerds in this congregation ?! /// mr Nerd |
