Hi, I'm fairly new to riding having spent many years watch in awe, occasionally riding pillion. I have a 49cc 1990 model and the indicators aren't working. Does anybody have any instructions for finding the problem, or any tips for finding a Haynes manual. I'd love to get her back on the road, the garage have told me that it'd cost me more than she's worth for them to do it, but I'd rather try to fix her myself than sell her for parts. Cheers, |

Here is an earlier answer from the Tips Section which may help?? "The flasher relay relies on the correct bulbs being fitted as it is operated via a heated strip which needs the right amount of current to flow. Check that you are using 6V 8W bulbs. Secondly the battery needs to be well charged, as again if it is not giving out sufficient current it will not heat the relay strip. The operation is: 1/ Operate handlebar switch - flasher contact made - light on 2/ Current across bi metal strip heats and releases the switch - light off 4/ Bi metal strip cools and remakes the switch - light on (back to 2/) This is why when your battery is low the indicators glow but don't switch. Wrong bulbs with too high wattage will do the same." I can do you a Haynes Manual for a tenner + £1.95 postage. PM me for further details. Cheers Per FizzyParts.co.uk |

It's easy to check the relay. Simply remove the two wires from it and join them temporarily together (a paper clip does the job, but make sure it doesn't touch anything metal on the frame). Then switch on the ignitition and indicator switch. If the indicators come on, but don't flash, buy a new relay. If they don't come on you have a switch or wiring fault. The wiring sequence is: Battery to main key switch. Key switch to relay. Relay to indicator switch, indicator switch to bulbs. bulbs to earth. Cheers Mark C |

Forgot the obvious. Check the bulbs first. |
