Hi, just found this site and feeling nostalgic for my '74 Fizzie, my first (legal) mode of transport. I bought it s/h for £145 (8 quid a month for 18 months inc interest) from a dealer, reg YNC 452M when it was about 18 months old. It always started first kick from cold until I 'adjusted' the points, after that it always needed a bump first thing, but I was in love by that time so it didn't matter. I kept it long after my 17th birthday, finally selling it to a friend for £110. Anyone else know anything about that bike? I just did a freebie lookup on HPI who say 'the DVLA has no record of that reg' so it must have been scrapped by now. I remember paying £10 for comp insurance the first year I had it, next year the insurance people had got wise that this was rather more than a moped and I paid £35 third party. I rode it from Cheshire to the Isle of Man (not at TT time I hasten to add, and not over the Irish Sea either, I got a ferry) and the day before I was due to go the engine started misfiring at anything over tickover. After much headscratching and quite some prayer I found that it was, of course, just that the exhaust was blocked up and removal of the central baffle sorted it out, I kept it out and noisy for quite a bit after that. I also remember it being lethal in the wet if I got the braking wrong, the back end would slide sideways without a second thought. I never dropped it though. Did anyone ever try actually pedalling one? My pedals were virtually unmoveable. In the dry, that amazing summer of '76 to be precise, it came into it's own. Myself and a friend who'd got a car both wanted to go to the Woodford Air show to see the Harriers etc. There was a 5 mile traffic jam on the road to Woodford and we had a choice. Either we go in his car or he rides on the back of my fizzy (as a car driver he'd be teaching me to ride my bike ) We chose correctly and sailed past 5 miles of steaming Cortinas and screaming kids. Pure joy.So what's a pre-restriction FS1E in good nick likely to cost me now? And what's this about a 60cc conversion? And what's the legal position? Presumably I can ride a 50cc one without L plates on my car licence? Cheers, Hodgheg. |
