I lived in Bethnal Green at the time (as a student) and remember a report on the nine oclock news - You know the type - And finally.....

The story was of an army Green Godess being called out by a little old lady to retreive her cat from a tree.

The Army roles-up, ladders out, sapper up the tree and grabs cat which takes umbridge and scratches the crap out of its rescuer. Cat ends up back on land.

Little old lady well pleased at the result and invites everyone in for tea and cakes.

Army very happy with result - drink tea and scoff the cakes

Reversing out of parking space - ran over cat and killed it.

The look on the news readers face (I think it was Angela Rippon) was priceless.

Welcome Easyaldo to the site. You haven"t said what price you are wanting to pay for a restoration project, or what state the project has to be. decide what model you want etc. The early SS one are worth a bit more than the Dx for example although parts are just as scarce. Try to find an original one also with most of the bits there. I think there will be someone on the site that has one once you set a price that you want to pay. Good luck Mark. :P

:D EH UP,
Nice 2 hear some fizzies survived, up ere in the North !

We're in sunny Donny, & already have a 78 FS1DX,
that needs TLC.

She was a runner & maybe passed an MOT, except you'd need 2 ride with fingers in your ears !

Now the engine's been removed for some TLC, & an injection of new bits !
Looking forward to learning a LOT from you guys !

Yea remember that one, think it was old Reginald Bosanquet that read the report (and got into bother for just manging to hold back a laugh)

I'm up North near the Scottish border. Does that mean I'm furthest North or is there anyone on this site further up, if you'll pardon the expression.

I'm originally from Brighouse in West Yorks and now live East of Carlisle - it's a long story.......

You may well be right there - it was thirty years ago, I was p*ss*d student and could hardly focus on the screen cause the tears were tripping down my face from laughing at the news readers predicament. It was going to be such a ggod bit of PR for the Army and it all went "T*ts Up" at the final hurdle.

yeah my dad did the whole fire brigade thing in 77 when he was in the services at RAF Luton. He said in the 2 weeks he did it for all there was was a chimney fire whick they didnt have a clue how to tackle and a bush fire which they didnt even bother with. He still maintains the opinion that all firemen are lazy b@stards that just sit about all day playing with their hoses :o :o
