oh for god sake, do these people have no perspective???

They are spending 200+ quid on a fuel tank, if theyve got that kind of money to spend on such things why dont they spend some on something useful like a charity, which will arguably bring more self satisfaction.
I think i see it this way because im tight but hey............

I've no problem with how much people pay for bits, they work hard for their money and are entitled to spend it exactly as they wish;it just surprises me.

That tank though currently costs more than twice as much as I paid for my 1977 DX back in 1982...£95! :o

Interesting to see the factory finish underneath the tank. The silver base clearly visible. Just shows how little paint they put on those things.
Considering that, it would be far better to have one resprayed properly for a fraction of the final price that will go for. It will last a lot longer than the NOS one too, once its on the bike.

I would spend £15000 on a 1994 Escort Cossie which is stupid money for a 12 year old FORD but the amount of satisfaction I would get could not be out weighed by any Charity donation

And anyway it would cost at least £125 for a good respray on a tank so if you bought a shitter for £75 quid you aint far off
:)

It all depends what you want.....

Either a bike that looks over restored with glittering shiny unmarked paint that was sprayed professionally using modern paints and processes

or

a bike that looks like it has just come out of the crate from Yamaha, showing the patina of age and originality.

I guess you pays your money you takes your choice

50 quid for a good s/h tank and £150 to paint it, plus 20 quid for the stripes

or

220 quid for a minty nos Tank that looks the part

Who Knows who is right

The only thing certain is that tank will end up in a box in a certain lock up garage, and probably not see the light of day for a while :ph43r:

I have been offered a quantity of these NOS tanks for £400 each even if I bought 30 of them!! Needless to say I kindly declined the offer.

My opinion is that you would still need to respray these NOS tanks as it would not match the rest of your paintwork otherwise. If it's been sitting around for 30+ years it is probably likely that the paint has faded a few shades from the original finish. As mentioned by SS50 previously the amount of paint and the finish quality on the original tanks wasn't the best as the FS1's were coming off the production line at 1 every 4 seconds during their peak:o

So you are better off buying a decent 2nd hand one and then restoring it and getting it sprayed together with the rest of your tinware for a perfect match.

I have just bought this one for £40 and it will cost me another £100 to get it sprayed and laquered with decals. Job done!

So the one currently on eBay will not end up in my stock room!

You are right per when you dont have the other parts you always get different colours !

It is just nice to have but you mostly can do nothing with it

Look at this set it is resprayed by a painter who did jobs fore yamaha already 30 years ago when they have shipping scrathes

Almost ready this bike it is from 72

the other one (bleu is 5 speed and from 1970
