Good Guess Eightcans.

The strainge thing is even though the engine is 144 x bigger than my Fizzy it only uses about 6 x times the fuel, how odd.

As for the tuning etc, i stand corrected....ill go away and cry in a corner.

Thats a bit pants considering the engine size....7212cc and it wacks out 375 ponies? Thats what i cant understand about these bloody american things, they all have huge cc engines, but wack out the power equivalent of a nats fart and have to move a 3 and a half ton tub of lard, albeit with more than a fair amount of torque. Yes they do sound awesome, but to be honest i think the europeans do things better, you mention to a yank the idea of cornering without oversteering like buggery or getting 200bhp out of 2000cc he would have a heart attack.

Yeah armerican's make these big cc'ed cars and they have top speeds of like 100mph and have lowish bhp for the engine size...then you get japanise making 2.0l engines that have around 200bhp etc...

It is because Americans get cheap fuel, i bet they would get their act together if they were paying 98p a litre like us.

yeah but everything comes at a price dosent it. a big yank V8 will kick out 300bhp comfortably and do 200,00+ miles if you look after it. you always hear of these toyota supras with 500bhp that are always blowing up. how can you drive a car thinking if you plughed your foot to the floor theres a good chance it may self destruct.

there was a piece in classic american magasine a while back about an old lady who had done 80,000 miles in about 45 years and the car hadnt had one single service, no oil change or anything, just running on the sludge under the rockercovers.

it was a 70's ford station wagon as far as i can remember. with a small block ford lump in it. i cant remember what happened to it in the end but it didnt blow up. the valves kept sticking because the rockerbox was just solid sludge i think. anyway she took it to a garage and they pulled a rockercover off and asked her when it was last serviced, she said it never had been. a guy I know has a renault van and he bought it new, anyway he didnt take it for a service till it had done 30,000 and when they changed the oil it fucked the turbo (???).

there's no way she could have done 80,000 miles with the same oil...the sludge oil that would have been left at around 20-30,00 miles would have wrecked her engine...the big end bearings would have started knocking badly, then the crank would have seized....

And tommo about them 500bhp cars that blow up...your right.
If i take my mini engine over 7500rpm with its standard flywheel in it, the flywheel will disintegrate and when it explodes it has same effect as a hand grenade :ph43r:

Also changed the oil wouldn't have anything to do with a turbo (i think) because a turbo runs on exhaust gases and is air cooled...

  nah, think about it a turbo spins at like 60,000rpm yeah? so it deffo has bearings in, which deffo need oil. as for air cooled, theres no airflow behind your engine is there.

as for the station wagon, the oil would have had to have been topped up as it was burnt off/turned to sludge so it would always have enough to keep it running. bear in mind it probably never revved above 3k rpm. in my small experience with yak v8's the crank doesent seize, it just knowcks till it throws a rod out the side of the block.

thats one fault with a lot of yank V8's. they dont hold much oil. a worthwhile addition is a hi-cap sump so it can hold a gallon and a half.

The turbo is cooled by an intercooler and the oil would have stayed as sludge...
