Hi If you are a sausage jockey and a really sad individual that likes to trash for sale threads Please post below, but so not to give your secret away please use the standard code of talking about CARS AND ENGINES to let like minded people Know you like it up the Botty :ph43r:  |

I would put a full stainless steel exhaust system including manifold and put on a K 'n' N air induction kit and upgrade to a fast road camshaft then it would go.... |

if your gonna bother with the camshaft, then upgrade the valves too, and wack in some uprated forged race pistons, otherwise you will just end up ruining your engine in the long just with the uprated camshaft. |

surely being a performance car it should have forged pistons??? im no jap car expert but in theworld of V8's if you fit anything other than forged pistons you are comitting a criminal act. i dont think a hot cam can add enough ponies to cause serious detrement to the life of the engine though. may be wrong. modern jap cars seem reasonably well equipped these days with overhead cams and the lark ( ) , nah but if it was korean or summot i could understand but it should have a half decent crank/rods an stuff. i say half decent, probably about the size of a Z1000 crank.

Ive tought of the perfect birthday present for you DB...a damn tuning book! Now i know some of you dont like me talking about this but ive learn loads and loads tuning mini engines and i would say that is the same as tuning a fizz but costs more... But you dont need forged pistons for a hot cam, uprating the valves could lower bhp and putting in the hot cam wont damage the engine unless you put in hi-lift rockers with it...you only need forged race pistons if you want to rev the engine more than 8000rpm Putting in the hot cam would give you 2-4bhp and a small torque bonus but driving the car would feel different and would seem alotter more 'revvy'... And i think that the toyota celica would have cast alloy pistons... |

I like Tommo am into V8', 7200cc worth of V8.
When you rebuild a V8 you have to decide how you are going to use it. The reason is standard cast pistons will cope with normal everyday driving but if you are going to run at higher temperatures or higher revs the forged pistons give you a bit more insurance. The down side is forged pistons can rattle when the engine is cold and the ones I have in my V8 make the engine sound like it is worn out when I start it even though I only rebuilt it 3 years ago. They get better as it warms up but it will never be as quit as cast. <_< The reason you would melt a standard piston is because of a weak mixture or to much advance, even a forged piston wont stop it happening but it will delay it a few seconds. Most pistons will cope with a flame temp of 1400 degrees but forged will let you get away with a couple of hundred more for a few seconds. High lift cams/rockers dont need forged pistons if the valves are going to hit the pistons just having them made of a differant material wont stop this happening. :ph43r: You have to be carefull with changing cams as a lot of cams dont actually produce much more power but they just give a power band so as the cam comes onto it sweet spot the car surges forward so it feels like you have more power. The ones that do give you more power means you lose a lot of torque and a vehicle with no torque is useless. A new cam does not give you something for nothing all it will do is change where the engine produces its power and torque. To get more power you need to get more fuel and air in, burn it quickly and get rid of it as quickly as possible. So multi point fuel injection ported and gas flowed cylinder head and big bore but not low restriction exhaust or you will lose any torque. I also have a Van and a Kawasaki 1200 both of these produce 125ps what ever that is. Now if I swapped the engines over neither would be any good as the bike would be flat out at 80mph but I would go everywhere in top gear and the van would rev well but I would have to go over manholes in 1st gear. I hope this helps clear this up. I am off to Germany this weekend to pick up that red FS1G I bought a few weeks back, wish me luck |
