Hi all, Bought my 1976 Baja brown fs1e off a good mate in 1981. Been in the family ever since but after many years of deteriorating in damp storage It has finally got to the front of projects queue. Dismantled now and started identifying parts required to get it back on the road. Matching numbers UK 394 bike. First question is powder coat or paint? I am not trying to make it better than new, the plan is for my nephew to use it when he hits 16 and for it to keep my other Yamahas company and possibly commute the 3 miles to work . |

Welcome to the site Sportyking. I assume that youre asking about the finishing of the frame. Most, including myself, opt for powder coating for its durability, but it has to be remembered, that by the nature of its application, it does coat extensively. The biggest problem being, that earthing points, that used to exist inside the frame when wet finished, tend to get covered over with powder. We are a helpful bunch on here, so ask all the questions you need. |

Many thanks, I will probably follow the norm and powder coat because I intend to use it. I always send frames in with sacrificial nuts and bolts protecting the threads but will pay special attention to the fittings inside now. |
