I decided to defag my drives, here are the stats: C drive, 40% fragmentation (80% of files) F drive, 70% fragmentation (90% of files) G drive, 90% fragmentation (99% of files) <--- this is the portable drive Impressive eh, maybe I should defag more often? |

It rearranges your files on your harddrive to use bytes in order rather than random throughout the drive. IE) piece on byte 100120 next one on 325121 changed to 100120 then 100121 |

basically, if a file is all together, your drive can read the entire file in one swoop of the reader, if the file is in two pieces, first it needs to read the first piece then move to the second piece, effectivly doubling the time. IF a file is in 10k pieces, well... do that math. Defagging your drive puts these files back in order. |
