Aesir Chronicles Beware, very long. 10 chapters and 2 prologues. Prologue Part 1 (as told by dark_rz) Monday, 10:57 pm It was Monday night and <Odie and I had unluckily lost a game of straws. That meant that we had the night shift for guard duty. As it was, I was very nervous about pulling guard duty at nighttime even since I got run over by a group of wild Naks. My night vision was pretty good so I guess I was ideal for this job. More importantly, <Odie and I had golems, which were considered necessary in a place like Twin Castle. I stood there clenching my hammer harder, as the night air become colder. Finally, I started pacing around in circles. After several minutes, <Odie became increasingly uncomfortable and finally said, “Jeez, dark, can you stop?” I stopped walking around and stared into the darkness. I guess I was nervous, because I dropped an axe. I bent down to pick it up, and all of a sudden, an arrow flew past where my head was. I guess I’m still alive because of <Odie. He grabbed my armor and hauled me back, while he immediately began to return fire. I picked myself up and counted the number of enemies approaching our base. “<Odie, there’s about fifty of them. Let’s go.” <Odie nodded and stepped back. I placed my golem there with instructions to try and hold them back. My golem roared, and started to try and jam the two doors shut. He was hit with a deluge of axes, knives and arrows, but it stood unyielding. Since I ran more quickly than <Odie, I made my way towards the barracks, where a secondary force was ready to deal with any attacks. <Odie ran towards Guu’s headquarters. When I ran into the barracks, Juste, Horazon, Gripmasta, Juanmaster and Going2Lose were waiting for me. “Is that all?” I asked desperately. “This isn’t going to be enough.” Going2Lose volunteered to stay behind and get some reinforcements as I ran ahead. We ran towards the gate and caught up with <Odie. “Is Guu ready?” I asked breathlessly. <Odie shook his head. “He gave us orders to try and hold them off.” Juste interrupted. “Is he crazy? There must be a billion out there!” <Odie only answered, “That’s all we can do for now.” My golem was near the point of death by the time we reached there. It roared as it saw me and I immediately withdrew it. Juanmaster summoned his golem quickly to replace mine, and all of us switched to range weapons. “What the hell am I supposed to do from here?” grumbled Gripmasta as he held up ninja stars. We began flinging weapons over our golem, as more of the clan was being roused to fight. Jason continued to throw grenades from between the golem’s legs. All of a sudden, we saw a flash of fire from above. “Shit.” Juanmaster exclaimed. “Who the hell are these people? These guys can summon dragons like they’re nothing!” After a few moments of futile axe-throwing, Going2Lose appeared, leading a very groggy XxfoamxX, Lord_Anubis, Unholyshot, SirBomgui, Eos and SirMaximus. Ivonnely soon followed with [Limiter] at her back. Going2Lose looked apologetic. “These were all I could muster. The rest of them are with Guu, getting ready to counter attack through the secret passage. Guu also says that some of us has to guard the tunnel out of the Twin Castle.” I looked around and asked, “Who has the most cp here?” Horazon suggested that he, Eos, Lord_Anubis, and Unholyshot could hold the tunnel on their own. “Go.” I ordered. Horazon nodded and the three ran into the tunnel. I turned my attention back to Juanmaster’s dying golem. Juanmaster recalled it, and Going2Lose added his golem to the vacant spot. Handfist ran up two minutes later and asked how we were doing. I answered sarcastically, “Looks like we’re going to win.” Gripmasta suddenly commented, “I’m owning these guys with these stars.” The group laughed grimly as Handfist finally told us his news. “We’re pretty much close to ready now. The clan’s been assembled and pretty soon we’re going to go through the tunnel. I trust you have someone guarding it?” “Horazon’s supposed to be there right now, with Lord_Anubis, Eos, and Unholyshot.” responded XxfoamxX. Handfist nodded and replied, “Good. With luck, we’ll finish these guys off. Just hold up a while.” Ten minutes after Handfist left, SirMaximus remarked, “Wasn’t that what Going2Lose said an hour ago?” A few hours passed, and some of my comrades succumbed to a combination of fatigue and deadly aiming on the part of the invaders. Suddenly, there were several loud noises in the back room where Guu had positioned his army. I guess Guu’s finally moving his army through his tunnel, I thought. The number of enemies attacking us was gradually dwindling. The dragons had disappeared. We all started to cheer wildly when we realized that we had managed to hold off the enemies. Going2Lose began to go around treating the wounds of everybody. Most of us sat down wearily, although our hands never strayed from our weapons. Finally, after we had been treated, I announced that I was going to the back room to wait for Guu to return. Juste picked up his blade and followed me. We quickly walked through the garden, and I pushed the wooden doors. I looked in and dropped my hammer to the ground. |

Prologue Part 2(as told by Going2Lose) I watched Dark and Juste run off towards the base, but in my heart, I feared that the clan had already been destroyed. I would have gone with them, but this healing drew upon every ounce of energy I could muster. Still, I was thankful we survived. Finally Gripmasta spoke. “Who do you think could have attacked us?” Juanmaster responded. “It’s obvious this has to be the work of a high level clan. There are really three clans that we can suspect. Those are Unforgiven, Smurfs, and Forsaken. It’s also highly unlikely that Forsaken could have attacked us. The sheer number of knives thrown at my golem indicates that about fifteen people attacked through the gate alone. I doubt Forsaken has enough members for that.” <Odie got up and stretched. Out of all of us, he was the only one unharmed. “Smurfs? Isn’t that just a second rate clan?” XxfoamxX shook his head. He was the spymaster of Anbu and he had been following Smurf’s activities. “For the past years, Smurf mages have been working on an evil magic called Swapping. Basically this magic forces your body to push itself past its limits prematurely. They are now a force to be reckoned with.” I saw Ivonnely and [Limiter] exchange excited glances with each other. Somehow that simple act gave me a bad feeling, but I could not act upon it without being called paranoid. I moved to SirMaximus and asked him to hold his arm up for me. He grimaced as I pulled out several ninja stars and began to heal him. It was SirMaximus who was the architect who originally designed the Twin Castle. It seemed that he was the only one who had retained the forging abilities of a true blacksmith. SirBomgui said, “We can’t rule out any inside traitors. By the way, shouldn’t Dark and Juste be back yet?” I replied, “Just rest for now. Dark and Juste know what they’re doing.” It was at this time that Dark entered the room. I immediately took note of the fact that Dark seemed to look haunted. His eyes showed nothing except deep pain. It was then I saw who he clutched in his arms. Juste and Dark were clutching Gaeden and Guu respectively. Behind Dark trudged his golem, who held Frakir, S_Zone and Kasuya. For several moments, there was a deep silence in the room. At last Dark spoke with a raspy whisper, “They’re the only ones who survived. Nobody else even stood a chance.” I immediately felt a huge pain clutch at my chest as Dark tried to speak more but failed. Dark had been one of the oldest members in Anbu and he had personally recruited many of the members who were now lying dead in the other rooms. To us, Anbu was not just our clan, but our family. With a graceful but slow walk, Juste walked over and placed Guu gently in the center of the room. Juste backed away and we summoned our dragons. Gradually, but carefully, the dragons’ fire reduced Guu’s body into ash. After the dragons disappeared, Juste spoke. “With Guu dead, and Yuffie missing, clan Anbu is officially disbanded. However, this doesn’t mean that all of us are going to take different paths from now on. If you guys are willing to join, I will create another clan for all of us. This may be a little soon, but I’m afraid that whoever did this will return and finish their job. This is also what I believe to be the best way to hunt down whoever did this to us. Think on it guys. I can’t force you to make this decision.” Nobody did anything, but Dark, who quickly walked out of the room. I started to go after him, but Juste gripped my arm and shook his head. XxfoamxX came over and reminded me to heal the survivors. I returned to healing gratefully, pouring my energies into healing to avoid thinking about my former family and friends. |

Chapter 1: The beginning (as told by Juste) Tuesday 7:04 am I was woken up by the sound of knocking on the door. To my chagrin, I found out that I had fallen asleep. A big pool of drool lay on the papers on the desk. I quickly cleaned it and composed myself. “Come in!” I called. SirBomgui entered the room slowly. As lethargic as I was, I didn’t miss the fact that he wouldn’t meet my eyes. After a tense silence, SirBomgui said, “I’m sorry Juste, but I can’t join your new clan. Some friends have offered to take me into their clan. Good luck with your clan.” “It’s ok, SirBomgui. If you choose to return, there’s always going to be a place for you within Aesir.” XxfoamxX came in next and dropped a picture on my desk. I looked at it in surprise and turned to XxfoamxX for an explanation. XxfoamxX explained, “At 10:43 pm yesterday, Ivonnely and [Limiter] left the Twin Castles. They made their way to the main gate where they knocked out Juanmaster and SirMaximus. Based on what my brother Going2Lose tells me, it seems likely that they are going to Smurfs.” I rubbed my head and asked, “Is there anything else you would like to report?” XxfoamxX nodded and said, “Just one thing. Dark_rz never returned to the Twin Castles ever since he left after Guu’s funeral. His whereabouts are unknown and I don’t know his motives for leaving.” I dismissed XxfoamxX and sat heavily in my seat thinking. When I decided to create Aesir, I took solace in the fact that dark_rz would be in this clan with me. We had grown close over the last few weeks before Anbu fell. However, I didn’t have the luxury of worrying about Dark. The clan was still in disarray. Juanmaster came in, nursing a huge bruise on his forehead. He grinned sheepishly and sat down. I took a sip of water and motioned that he could begin speaking. “Well, Juste, I think you already know what happened to me last night.” I grinned back and bantered sarcastically, “I could tell why you lost to Ivonnely and [Limiter]. I mean, it wasn’t as if you had three golems with you.” Juanmaster laughed and then said more seriously, “This is serious Juste. There’s no way that [Limiter] and Ivonnely could have gained so much power that quickly.” I interrupted, “You think they swapped before?” Juanmaster nodded and continued, “If we don’t stop Smurfs now, it’s going to be hell trying to take them out later.” I said, “Let me worry about that for now, Juanmaster. Go see Going2Lose and see if you need to be healed.” Juanmaster replied, “Thanks,” and he exited the room. The next person to come in was SirMaximus. Unlike Juanmaster, he showed no signs of being attacked SirMaximus drew a seat and sat on it. He got to the point quickly. “I’m not here to talk about last night. Right now, there are several things our clan needs. First of all, we need recruits, and by recruits, I don’t mean crap. Our clan also needs a reputation. Right now, people don’t know what we can do. If we can take on a tough mission and establish our reputation quickly, we’ll garner a lot of business and interest.” I leaned forward. “I suppose you have a mission for us, SirMaximus?” He rummaged through his pockets and drew out an extremely small folded piece of paper. He proffered it to me and said, “This was the only one I could find. The other missions were already taken by the other clans.” I gave the sheet a cursory glance. “Looks like Juanmaster’s gonna get his wish. Who is this client? He managed to hire two clans!” SirMaximus shrugged. “I don’t know but I already have a spy in the household. He’s a mage called Hired_Killer.” I remarked, “I suppose his services aren’t going to come cheap.” SirMaximus shook his head. “His price was only 500 gold pieces. He supposedly wants enough to start his own clan.” I leaned against the table and stood up. “SirMaximus,” I ordered, “Tell the clan to be ready by 3:00pm. We’ll be moving out against clan Smurfs at 3:30pm.” |

Chapter 2(as told by dark_rz) Tuesday 3:50 am The lack of sleep was unbearable but what was even more unbearable was the cast of people I had assembled to help me. Contrary to what you may have thought, I did not abandon Aesir because I was an asshole or a coward. Inside the room where I rescued Kasuya, I realized there were several bodies missing. The people I sent to defend the tunnels, Horazon, Unholyshot, Lord_Anubis and Eos, were nowhere to be found. Even more haunting was the absence of Yuffie Kisiragi, who was Anbu’s clan knight. Although I had no clues as to the whereabouts of Yuffie, I still retained a belief that Horazon had survived. The task was too immense for one blacksmith to handle so I recruited some of my friends, although I was certainly regretting it now. Xionix had an unfortunate penchant for blurting out, “Dark_rz is gay!” and he managed to aggravate everyone else. Falcon would not stop trying to make me a member of the Falcon Fan Club. After that there was Aurelia, who kept correcting my grammar and making me feel unintelligent with her erudite remarks. My cousin, Oscar1, had to make a smart-ass comment after everything someone said. RagnorakLoki refused to speak to me after I spelled his name incorrectly once. However, if anything else, they were all competent in their jobs. From Monday to now, we had been tracking Horazon. For the most part, the tracking had been successful. We found out that Horazon was now in Unforgiven with Unholyshot, and Eos. Lord_Anubis was nowhere to be found. I assumed that he must have been a casualty in the attack on Anbu. Soon after I had discovered Horazon’s whereabouts, Unforgiven had begun mobilizing. Their whole clan had marched out of their base. Surreptitiously, my team followed the Unforgiven army for a few hours until they reached, to my surprise, Smurf Headquarters. We were lying on a hill watching Unforgiven move about when Xionix chose this good time to say, “Dark is gay!” I turned to Xionix quickly and hissed, “Shut up! Call me gay later!” Oscar1 remarked, “That was smart Xionix.” I gritted my teeth and watched as three blacksmiths tried to break the door into snake temple. It didn’t take long for them to force the door open, although I didn’t catch how they managed to break through. All I know is that all of a sudden they swarmed through the door. The door soon slammed shut after them and I was left with my team scratching my head in disbelief. RagnorakLoki asked Falcon, “Can you please inform Dark that we should find another entrance?” Falcon opened his mouth and I quickly interrupted him. “I think I can hear. Let’s go.” Like most temples you see in movies or books, Snake Temple was modeled like the ancient pyramids. The Unforgiven army had found a secret entrance at the North side, so we moved to the East side and searched for anything suspicious. Soon after, Falcon found a hollow brick. I was surprised he had found anything at all. All he had done was run around waving his sword around dangerously. He called me over. “Dark, come look at this brick.” I hurried over skeptically. I smacked the brick once with my hammer and to my disbelief, a door appeared. Aurelia observed, “You’re kidding. If my arenology studies have served me well, I would have guessed that the block that you just destroyed was composed of rock grains between .07305 and .240 millimeters, due to the large chunks of the block left by your characteristic weak hammer smash, but… that means that the sediment that the block was made of would be defined as tightly packed according to the Wentworth scale of sediment molecule make-up, so something like that block wouldn’t crumble so easily, especially if Dark_rz tried to break it.” I would’ve replied if only I could understand what she was saying. As such, I ignored her comment and pushed open the door. We quickly made our way in, and I quickly realized my mistake. The entire room we had entered was pitch black. Oscar1 commented, “Wow, dark, good idea.” “How was I supposed to know Smurfs was this cheap? Can’t they afford lamps?” Xionix managed to procure a lighter, which I declined to remark about. He flicked it and I immediately took note of our surroundings. Somehow we had entered a room with a bridge. Two pillars were on the bridge. Because of the scarcity of light available, I couldn’t glimpse how deep a fall from the bridge would be. There were only two paths we could take from here. We could continue to cross the bridge and go to the other side, or we could go to the middle of the bridge and attempt to leap across to a room with golden doors. Falcon whispered, “Where do we go now?” Despite the fact that he whispered, an echo boomed across the room. Suddenly I heard voices coming from the other side of the bridge. “We have no choice now,” I said, “Get into the gold room.” As we lined up and jumped across, the voices began to be more familiar. Finally everyone had jumped across the bridge except me. RagnarokLoki pleaded, “Hurry up dark! They’re coming!” All I did was summon my golem and order it to shut the door to the gold room. The door boomed as my golem shoved it shut, muffling the voices within. I thanked my golem gratefully and turned towards the people walking towards me in the bridge. I spoke first. “Well, it looks like you two seem to have left Aesir too.” [Limiter] said, “It doesn’t matter what we did, dark. What matters is what you’re doing in our headquarters. Leave now or I’ll finish you.” “[Limiter], your threats aren’t going to have much of an effect on me. I’ve always been able to destroy you and Ivonnely doesn’t look so well right now.” It was true. Ivonnely had somehow been attacked and was sporting various wounds from her chest, her right arm and her shoulders. [Limiter] only snarled and rushed me. Without Xionix’s lighter, the fight became that much harder. I blocked as [Limiter] dashed across the bridge. As I moved around to get a good position, I became aware of how small the bridge was. I also became more cognizant of the fact that [Limiter]’s stuns were doing too much damage while I was blocking. I gasped as one of his stuns managed to get under my block and stab me in the chest. “What did you do [Limiter]?” He grinned and replied, “Can’t you guess where all this power came from?” He pushed me against the edge of the bridge and said, “Good bye Dark.” I lost my foothold and reached out wildly as I fell and found myself holding [Limiter]’s ankle. Although he had grown stronger, his strength could not compare to my strength. My weight began forcing him to move towards the edge of the bridge and I was at a dilemma. One of my hands was gripping his ankle, while the other hand was clenching my hammer. If I dropped my hammer, I would have a good chance of climbing back to the bridge. However, that would leave my defenseless and open to any attack [Limiter] would try and hit me with. All of a sudden, an arrow struck my ribs and I spat out blood. I had completely forgotten about Ivonnely. There was only one path left for me then. I gripped my hammer and hit [Limiter] in the back of his legs. He lost his balance and was quickly pulled over the side of the bridge. As I plummeted to the ground, I realized I didn’t know who-or what-could be waiting for me down there. |

Chapter 3: Memories of the fallen: Part 1 (as told by Gaeden) The spirit stood in front of me, floating above my body. I clutched at my chest expecting several gaping holes but nothing was there. My hammer and axes were nowhere near me. Where the hell was I? On second thought, was I in hell? The spirit shimmered and its thoughts projected into my mind. “It is no use, Gaeden Ariseth. You were killed on Earth by someone in the Smurfs. Do you remember?” His voice echoed and boomed throughout the room. Could this be a dream? What the hell happened to me? I couldn’t remember. All I knew was that I had left something important back in the real world. I stared into the endless dark room and searched for the answer. The air in the room was freezing and I felt virtually weightless. The room was basically empty; the only things that were in it were me and the spirit. The spirit itself seemed to copy the guise of a blacksmith, although nothing could be made out on his face. I answered, “I cannot remember. What happened to me?” It replied, “I cannot tell you what you felt. I will return to you your memories of the last hours of your life.” All of a sudden, a blinding light flashed throughout the room, and the spirit disappeared. I shielded my eyes with my arm and felt a heaviness fall over my eyelids…. Tuesday 4:09 pm I sat on the hill with Juste and <Odie. We were behind schedule already, although I didn’t mind. The hill was grassy, and lots of trees provided us with shade from the sun. The Snake temple loomed in front of us as we waited for our spy, Hired_Killer to come out. SirMaximus took out a bunch of cards to amuse ourselves with as we waited for the tiny mage to come meet us. Going2Lose cursed under his breath. He didn’t like to be kept waiting. Gripmasta overheard and ordered, “Stop cursing, bitch.” As SirMaximus passed out the cards, I asked, “Where’s Unforgiven? Weren’t we supposed to attack together?” SirMaximus shrugged. “I think they got overzealous and attacked early. I think they were already inside the North side of Snake temple before we got here.” <Odie interrupted. “Hold up on the card game guys. Hired_Killer’s coming.” The tiny mage ran all the way up the hill in the span of three seconds and reached XxfoamxX. He panted as he tried to catch his breath, and gasped. I paused to let him rest and asked, “Well, any information to report?” Hired_Killer nodded. “So far, the Smurfs are in chaos because Unforgiven army has begun infiltrating their base. To add to that, there are rumors that someone has broken into the East side of the Snake temple.” Gripmasta said curiously, “What’s in the East side that’s so special?” Hired_Killer shook his head. “All I know is that that place is a trap. It leads to a place called the Underground Altar. There are rumors among the new Smurf recruits that people are sacrificed there to power the swapping spells. Powerful cells inhabit that place too.” Juanmaster remarked, “What’s the quickest way to reach the middle of Smurf headquarters then?” Hired_Killer took out a pencil and looked around for a piece of paper. Finding none, he improvised and began drawing a map in the dirt. Going2Lose looked at the map incredulously and commented, “That’s a horrible drawing. What’s that piece of crap over there?” Juste interjected before Hired_Killer could explode into indignation. “Thanks for your help, Hired. We can take it from here.” Hired_Killer mumbled, “Thanks” and collected his money from XxfoamxX. He made his way down the other side of the hill and disappeared quickly. Juste stood up and shouted quickly, “Let’s go guys!” The ten of us moved surreptitiously to the South Side of the Snake Temple and we quickly found a spot on the wall which was hollow. Kasuya, one of the blacksmiths we saved earlier, moved over and smashed the door with his special. S_Zone asked sarcastically, “What was the point of that, stupid?” Kasuya only shrugged. Juste spoke with alacrity. “Ok guys, try to move quietly ok? Unforgiven said they would meet us at the center, and they should be attracting most of the Smurf forces now. Now let’s go!” We made our way through a series of mazes with XxfoamxX leading the way. Juste appointed him the post as spymaster since XxfoamxX already had previous experience as spymaster of Anbu. For the first five minutes, our trip was uneventful. It was so quiet, I could hear someone yelling “Dark is gay!” from the outside. I stifled a laugh as we approached the next corner. Suddenly, three Smurfs popped out and ambushed us. There were one mage and two blacksmiths. They all summoned tauruses, which immediately rushed me and knocked me over with their tusks. Juste, brave warrior that he was, quickly retreated to the back and started throwing knives. I got up quickly and found I was stuck in a corner with three tauruses surrounding me. To be truthful, they smelled like crap and they were really hairy. They also made weird moaning sounds, which in a less serious situation would lead to a series of embarrassing comments. All I could do for now was watch and block while the rest of the clan fought. Luckily, the clan seemed to be doing well. I watched as Juste let the clan do all the fighting and at the last moment kill-steal with a well placed dagger. By the time everyone saved me, I was near death. I complained, “Wow, Juste, why are you a warrior anyway? If you used your sword, I would’ve been free sooner.” Juste shrugged and drew his sword again. I had always wondered why his sword always looked like it was in perfect condition until today. We moved out of the maze, and into the center of the Snake Temple. Unforgiven was doing poorly, despite a numerical advantage. We crawled into the room, and Gripmasta analyzed the situation quickly. “First of all, we need to take down their dragons. Swapping has boosted their powers immensely. Then we’ll take care of PapaSmurf. He’s the leader of their clan, I think.” Juste gave the signal to attack and we sprang up and began massacring any dragons near us. Around us dragons fell from the skies and landed on Unforgiven and Smurf members alike, leaving a messy imprint upon the ground. The atmosphere within the room was hot and humid, and the dragon’s fire attacks didn’t exactly alleviate the temperature. Bodies of Unforgiven and Smurf members were strewn around the room, as Unforgiven was cut down to fourteen members in the span of three minutes by dragon fire. The battle was thick and heavy but gradually we began to push to the center of the room, without losing anybody, although most of us did get injured. <Odie spotted PapaSmurf and yelled to us, “Juste, PapaSmurf is running away!” For a midget, PapaSmurf sure had a lot of speed. Smurfs began losing their resolve to fight and they scrambled for any available doorways. I would’ve chased them but I was too tired by that point. I was covered in blood and I was about to collapse. However, Unforgiven seemed indefatigable and they gave chase. I couldn’t blame them. Their clan was decimated. On the whole, this mission failed. We were supposed to destroy Smurfs, but some remnants escaped. PapaSmurf and GrandpaSmurf were still roaming out there. Unforgiven had lost more than 80% of its army. However, all of us survived and I was thankful for that. It took us several moments but we overcame our fatigue and the ten of us moved to the middle of the room. Going2Lose tried to heal us, but he seemed out of energy. All of a sudden, several doors shut, and only the main door remained open. I looked up in alarm and I saw a huge bomb hurled at the center of our group. I spotted PapaSmurf, who gave a mocking wave and laughed. “You guys are going to die for destroying Smurfs.” With that last parting shot, he exited and closed the last door loudly. Going2Lose looked at the bomb and said, “I can’t disable it. This is beyond what a regular mage can produce or stop. Unless I can swap in two minutes and stop this bomb, we’re going to die.” Several members went into shock, as the rest of us pounded the walls in vain, searching for another trapdoor. Going2Lose began gripping the bomb to try and get it to stop. All it did was burn his skin off, leaving an unpleasant smell around the room. I slumped to the ground as I stopped beating the wall and lost hope. Juste spoke quietly. “Well, it’s been a hell of a ride guys. Despite what I may have said, I love you guys.” Juanmaster commented, “I don’t need to be reminded you’re a pedobear now, Juste.” As the bomb began glowing pink, I realized what I had to do. I rose up quickly and threw myself upon the bomb. The spirit broke me out of my trance. “That is all that you remembered from before.” I found that my vision had returned and I asked, “What happened? Did everyone get out ok?” The spirit looked at me with his solemn but sad eyes. He still held his hammer, which had strange and intricate markings upon it. His armor seemed worn and rusty. “Yes, all of them managed to get out.” If I could breathe, I would have let loose a sigh of relief. A white portal appeared before me and I drew away from it. My eyes had adapted to the darkness for so long that this soft light completely left me blinded. The room was still silent, except for a few echoes but I could smell a fresh light air emanating from the portal. I asked quietly, “Is that how I get to the afterlife?” The ghost nodded. “It appears you have no regrets left in the physical world.” “I see. Can I ask one question before I go?” The ghost nodded. I asked, “Who are you? You were someone who I knew before, weren’t you?” The ghost answered sadly. “Yes, Gaeden, I knew you before. In the physical world, I was simply known as Guu.” I knew I heard that name before, but I could not recall who it was. I bowed politely to Guu and I turned and walked through the portal. |

Chapter 4 (as told by RagnorakLoki) “Arggh. Dark, you’re gay!” yelled Xionix as he beat the door in frustration. I don’t know about you, but being trapped with Xionix was becoming unbearable. He really needed to get a bigger vocabulary. He was right, though. If I had a chance, I would’ve punched Dark for locking the door on us. We were all punching and kicking at the door in vain but it remained fast. Aurelia suggested, “We should call upon the being from which this stone door was created... We have to. This door will not yield to such intruders as us. Only the ancient defenders of Snake Temple possess command over it, because essentially, they are Snake Temple.” None of us really knew what she said (as usual) except Oscar, who translated, “She says that we should throw our golems at the door.” We all summoned seven golems and they pushed against the door. The room was stuffy and the walls were painted yellow. Of course, like every room in the Snake Temple, the walls echoed every movement we made. Slowly the door creaked open and we all jumped onto the bridge, grateful to get out of the room. I quickly spotted an archer, who was lying on the ground. It seemed she had succumbed to her injuries. However, she was still conscious and I grabbed her by the neck and lifted her into the air. “Where the hell is dark?” I snarled. She spat in my face and said, “If I wasn’t injured you wouldn’t have the balls to even come near me.” Falcon swung his blade toward her throat. “Madame, please tell us where dark is. It would not do for me to cut such fine skin.” She looked at Falcon, and said bitterly, “[Limiter] and dark fell to the bottom. There’s no point in trying to save him now. The cells down there are stronger than you can imagine.” ”It doesn’t matter whatever the hell is down,” Aurelia said fiercely. “It would be in our best interest not to abandon him.” Xionix agreed, “Yeah, we have to save that fatass. Let’s go guys.” Oscar looked down the abyss and volunteered to jump first. “If I die, I’m going to kill whoever had this great idea.” Oscar jumped quickly, with Xionix following soon after. Falcon flew down next and Aurelia dropped down seconds after he had gone down. Finally I grabbed Ivonnely and apologized, “I’m sorry, but if we die, you’re going to die for what you did to Dark.” I looked down into the chasm, and stared into the deep darkness. I waited for sounds to come from the bottom, but apparently the hole was too deep for any sound to be heard from the bottom. I quickly hoisted Ivonnely on my shoulders and jumped down. We fell quickly and I felt the wind trying to tear the skin from my bones. I tried to breathe but I couldn’t catch the air fast enough. Finally I landed and I felt my kneecap crack. I looked around and I saw everyone standing up with their weapons drawn. Surprisingly, an unknown ninja, who I inferred to be [Limiter], was holding his weapon next to dark. They both seemed to be facing an enemy together instead of going at each other’s throats like I expected.” Dark murmured, “I knew I was irresistible to you guys.” Someone snorted. Xionix called out helpfully, “Shut up dark. I know you missed Aurelia, you queer.” I decided not to tell him that his words were contradictory. Dark’s face became serious again. “You guys shouldn’t have come down. I thought only [Limiter] and I were going to die today.” [Limiter] interrupted. “Why the hell did you bring Ivonnely down here?” I didn’t answer. Instead, Falcon spoke. “It doesn’t matter. Now what the hell is down here that could be scaring you guys so much?” Oscar said simply, “You don’t hear it? They’re coming closer.” Oscar was right. Whatever they were, I could hear them coming closer to us. If these were cells, we were dead. I could feel a cold aura emanating from them as they moved closer to us. I felt sweat run down my face as I gripped my hammer more tightly. All of a sudden, a missile struck Xionix in the shoulder. He spun around and dropped to the ground, clutching his arm. Soon after, four more missiles dropped on us. We quickly broke our formation. I found myself huddled with Falcon in a corner. Falcon asked, “What the hell are they?” I answered as I broke into a run towards the cells. “I’m going to find out.” I ran towards the cells and I stared at them in shock. There had been rumors about them over the years, but a live Soul Cannon had never been seen before. These were way stronger and there were about 12 of them. I summoned my golem and together we attacked the first Soul Cannon. It was laughably easy fighting it. I ran circles around it while my golem threw rocks at it from afar. Soon it was showing signs of fatigue and I decided to finish it off. I charged a special and dropped it quickly at its chest. I laughed as it fell, and it blew up a second later, throwing me thirty feet away, into the chest of dark. “Shit,” I cursed, “Those things blow up when they die.” Dark pushed me off and said, “I’ve noticed. We have to warn everyone.” It was too late and Oscar called out suddenly, “I smell something else coming! Tauruses!” We began falling back as the tauruses entered the room. We were fighting really well, but whenever we destroyed a cell, two more would step up and take its place. They were pushing us into a corner and it looked as if we would die after all. Dark suddenly spoke. “Well guys, I’ve found a way for most of us to get out alive.” I spoke up quickly. “Most? What the—?” Dark interrupted. “Shut up and listen. When I destroy the wall, I want all of you to run, ok? Run away quickly.” Aurelia rolled her eyes. “It’s not like a bunch of cells with brains made of fluff are going to completely destroy us. Wherever they’re coming from, I’ve project that it should stop soon. Some of us could use a little exercise anyway…”” Dark looked at her and said, “I’m not afraid about what the cells will do to you. I’m afraid of what I might be to you guys. Now get ready.” The Tauruses and Soul Cannons advanced at us as Dark began glowing blue. He was standing twenty feet away from all of us. Suddenly, his body began expanding and in his place stood a really gigantic figure wielding a huge hammer. Dark smashed the wall like it was made out of paper and left a huge hole in it. “Go!” he roared. “I won’t be able to control myself much longer!” We all ran towards the exit as Dark disappeared under a mass of cells. He pushed them off and spotted Xionix and Ivonnely, who were both injured. He grinned hideously and raised his hammer. His eyes showed nothing of the Dark of before. All that I could see was soulless rage. I grabbed Xionix and Ivonnely by the shoulders and pushed them through the hole in the wall. I quickly followed through and I quickly summoned my golem to block the hole. Dark, or whatever he was called now, roared with fury and quickly ran towards the remaining Soul Cannons. I looked around the room that we were now in. The walls were yellow and the ground was thick with slime. I could hear the drip of water falling from the ceiling. To make matters worse, it smelled like a dump in here. Fortunately, there seemed to be an exit. Suddenly my golem yelled in pain. Dark had cut my golem’s arm off using his hammer. Everyone stopped catching their breath and immediately ran for the door. Aurelia got there first and began pushing the door frantically. Falcon and I exchanged looks of horror as we realized that the door was locked from the outside. |

Chapter 5 (as told by Going2Lose) Tuesday 5:05 pm We saw Gaeden falling on the bomb. In seconds it was over. His body evaporated and I heard someone call out, “Gaeden, No!” a few seconds later. A cold wind whipped across my face even though Gaeden had managed to absorb most of the damage. With that, the clan was down to nine people. Juste got up quickly, and I could see a cold anger emanating from his face. He spoke fiercely, “I’m going to kill that bitch right now.” There was still no way out of the room, but it wasn’t much of a problem now. SirMaximus gripped his hammer and smashed his way through. We exited through the hole and made our way out of the Snake Temple. XxfoamxX bent them and inspected the grass. He turned to Juste and informed him, “PapaSmurf went around the East side. If we hurry, we should be able to catch up with him.” Juste nodded his head and let XxfoamxX lead the way. Snake Temple was huge, but we managed to go around the North side in the span of a minute. As we rounded the northeast corner, <Odie stopped. Gripmasta asked, “What is it?” <Odie replied, “I hear noises coming from this wall. I think we should check it out.” Juste seemed anxiously waiting to continue tracking PapaSmurf, but he relented. He ordered, “S_Zone and Kasuya, break a hole into the wall.” The two blacksmiths charged their special and unleashed at the bottom of the wall. The Snake temple began shaking as its foundations were loosened. Suddenly, a bunch of people poured out of the hole. Frakir seemed to recognize them, and said quickly, “Why the hell are you here Xionix?” Xionix turned to us reluctantly. “I don’t have any time to explain. In a few seconds, we’re gonna be screwed.” Juste said, “I doubt it.” Xionix interrupted. “You’re Aesir’s clan leader right? That thing that’s coming out used to be Dark.” <Odie answered, “Then we’ll have to stop him now.” Juste drew his sword and the clan equipped their weapons a few moments later. A roar echoed out and I felt my blood freeze. What had we unleashed? Was Aesir really doomed to die? The wall crumbled as a huge giant came out wielding a hammer. Blood dripped down his arms and his face. His eyes were animal-like and he seemed ready to spring at us. Juanmaster looked at the size of his hammer and moaned, “Oh shit.” The giant disappeared for a second and reappeared at Juanmaster’s side. For someone that huge, he moved very quickly. Juanmaster stared at the giant’s chest for a moment, and the giant slashed Juanmaster’s chest with his hammer. Blood spurted out of Juanmaster’s chest as he collapsed on the ground. Juste quickly drew out a dagger and threw it right in the giant’s chest. Four axes, an arrow, and a ninja star buried themselves in the giant’s arm. More blood came out, but the giant only grinned. Were we doing anything? Juste called out in the middle of the frenzy, “Remember, hurt him, but don’t kill dark!” I laughed grimly as the group that followed Xionix out drew their weapons. Juste was unbelievable. He was worried that we would kill dark. I was worried dark would kill us instead. Dark gave a feral cry and smashed <Odie into the ground. Another volley crashed into dark, and this time they managed to make him flinch. Dark raised his hammer again, and <Odie lifted his arms in a futile attempt to shield himself. However, a knife embedded itself into dark’s arm and made him drop his hammer. Undeterred, Dark pulled the hammer out of the ground forcefully, leaving a huge imprint on the ground. I carefully aimed at dark and sent four fireballs flying at his chest. Three of them hit his legs, but the fourth one burned Gripmasta. I cursed under my breath, but it seemed my magic had done the trick. I smelled the scent of burning flesh. The clan sent another barrage, and this time it hit the exposed flesh, sending Dark reeling in pain. Juste roared, “Don’t kill him! Don’t kill him!” Dark dropped onto a knee, although he made several attempts to pick himself up. S_Zone immediately sent an axe into his other knee and Dark dropped down. Sweat poured down my face as Dark began glowing blue. He began gasping as he threw up blood. Slowly, his body began shaking and he began shrinking. It was a weird transformation. His head shrank first, leaving him with an oversized body. His arms and his hammer simultaneously shriveled next, leaving him with a gigantic lower body. Finally that returned to normal size. Dark lay on his side, and he coughed blood out. Suddenly, four fireballs struck dark’s chest, and he flipped over. I immediately turned and stared at shock at the mage who had fired them. Whoever fired him wasn’t a smurf, but I couldn’t recall who he was. Suddenly I was hoisted into the air, and I was staring deep into Juste’s eyes. “You better have a good reason for this, or I’m going to kill you right now. Why the hell did you just shoot Dark, Going2Lose?” |

Chapter 6 (as told by Juste) Wednesday 4:07 am The clan was falling apart. Dark lay in a coma after Going2Lose blasted him with four fireballs. Going2Lose was locked in the spare guest quarters, since we didn’t have any real prisons. What was more concerning to me was how I almost lost control. I had been on the verge of tearing Going2Lose apart piece by piece. It had taken several clan members to pry my hands away from his neck. All seven of us, with the exception of XxfoamxX, were sitting around the main room of the Aesir headquarters. The room was surprisingly comfortable. It smelled like pine, and it looked like everything a home should be. The walls were brown and pretty clean. There was a hallway connecting to this room, and another door that led to the outdoors. XxfoamxX had been interrogating his brother for several hours already and we were all waiting for his return. We didn’t bother trying to make small talk. We had lost Gaeden and Dark on the same mission. SirMaximus was especially affected. He had been the one who had found this mission. A door opened in the hallway and XxfoamxX walked out, looking more gaunt than ever. Going2Lose was his brother, after all. He walked slowly to us, his steps echoing through the hallway. He entered the room, and found a red chair near Gripmasta. He sank down on the chair, and shut his eyes. I was curious as to what he had found out, but I didn’t rush him. Too much had happened yesterday for me to have any energy. XxfoamxX inhaled deeply and spoke in a monotone. “Well, Going2Lose says that he didn’t kill Dark.” That part was obvious. He had told me that while I had gripped him by his neck. I notice that he had basically told the truth, but in a twisted way. If he said that he hadn’t killed Dark, it was true, because Dark was in a coma. I nodded, and XxfoamxX took that as a sign to continue. XxfoamxX continued, “He also says that the person who attacked Dark wasn’t a mage from Smurfs. He says that the mage responsible is Horazon.” My blood froze. That could not possibly be true. Horazon was one of my friends who were in Anbu with me. I was certain that if he was alive, he would’ve joined Aesir. Going2Lose had made up a plausible lie. We had never found Horazon’s body. The room became noisy as everyone began talking. Juanmaster roared, “Shut up and let him continue!” and the room quieted down again. XxfoamxX cleared his throat and said, “Going2Lose also said that Horazon was wearing an Unforgiven uniform.” Again the clan erupted. A few of them had an angry look in their faces. I didn’t know if they actually believed Going2Lose or if they were angry that he would try and trick them with such a blatant lie. Suddenly, somebody knocked on the door. Everyone stopped talking and focused their attention at the door. Kasuya got up from his chair and opened the door. A cloaked figure came into the room. He looked around for a chair but there was none for him to sit on. Finally, he lifted off his hood, and I stared at him in shock and anger. It was Yuffie Kisiragi, who was the former clan knight of Anbu. His hair was the same brownish color as it was before, but his eyes were now gray. He held on his belt a large knife, one that lesser ninjas would not have the ability to use. He gave a thin smile, and commented, “Have you missed me that much?” S_Zone exploded. “What gives you the right to come in here now? After everything we’ve been through? When you could’ve been the difference that would’ve saved Dark and Gaeden?” Yuffie shrank back a little. He apologized, “I’m sorry, guys. Dark and Gaeden were good friends of mine.” Frakir stared at Yuffie, who seemed to notice he was in the middle of the room. “Why the hell are you here, Yuffie? We don’t have time to play games with you.” Yuffie looked at Frakir, who only stared back at Yuffie with his midnight black eyes. “I can’t help but overhear what you guys said about Horazon. The truth is, I think he was the one who killed Guu. I know where he is, but I’m going to need some help getting to him.” Could he be right? I couldn’t let this opportunity pass. I rose up from my seat and said, “Well, guys, I can’t make this decision for you. If you guys aren’t tired, we can find out if Going2Lose is telling the truth.” I looked around, but I already knew that we would be going. We had grown more closer these past few days, and the death of Gaeden hit us hard. I turned to Yuffie and said, “Let’s go, Yuffie. Lead the way.” Yuffie nodded and replied, “One thing, Juste. Leave Horazon to me. I have a score to settle with him.” |

Chapter 7: Memories of the fallen: Part 2 (as told by dark_rz) I was in a black room that looked like it would never end. The room was cold. This had to be the afterlife. There was no other explanation. My body was miraculously healed, and yet I was weightless. My hammer had mysteriously disappeared along with my axes. The funny thing was that my eyes had adjusted to the darkness from the moment I had found myself here. Suddenly a specter materialized above me. His armor looked old, and used but his hammer looked brand new. Strange words flew around the hammer. Only one person had ever possessed a unique hammer like that and that was Guu. “Guu,” I said, “What are you doing here?” Guu looked down at my body. He seemed confused. “You remember everything? That shouldn’t be possible here.” “Why?” Guu replied, “Those who make their way here do not retain most of their memory. For you to recognize me, your body must not be dead in the physical world.” I nodded. “Someone shot me while my body was returning to its original form. I think it was a mage. I don’t think he meant to kill me though.” Guu looked like he was remembering something. “Dark, it looks like you have a little time in this world to heal. I will give you some of my last memories to help you. Perhaps it will help you someday.” A ray of light shined out of nowhere, burning my eyes. Monday 11:45 pm Strange enough, I was in Guu’s room at the time when Anbu was attacked. Guu was sitting at his desk, sorting through his papers. I smiled. Guu had never let himself get behind on paperwork. All of a sudden, I yelled, “Guu likes monkeys!” Nobody answered. I guess this meant I could not alter his memories. <Odie burst in breathing heavily. “Guu,” he gasped, “We’re being attacked.” Guu looked up at <Odie, and ordered quickly, “<Odie, go back and back up your partner. I’ll get the rest of the clan ready.” <Odie saluted, a dumb gesture to make in a time of crisis, but that was <Odie for you. He ran out, but I decided not to follow him. I was more interested in learning which clan had attacked us. Guu summoned five panzers, and gave them specific messages to give to the squad leaders. He quickly walked out of his room and into a hallway. I glided next to him, and noted that he seemed calm but determined. He stopped outside a door and knocked. “Who is it?” called a voice inside. Guu answered, “It’s Guu, Yuffie. We have a problem.” “Just a minute, Guu.” The door opened and Yuffie stared out. “What is it?” Guu motioned for Yuffie to follow him. As they set off at a quick pace, Guu began talking. “<Odie just told me that we’re being attacked. So far our guys seem to be holding off the enemy.” Yuffie nodded as they rounded a corner. Bright paintings decorated the walls of the Twin Castle, making it seem brighter than it should have been at a time like this. Yuffie suggested, “If they can hold them off for now, why don’t we assemble the clan and attack them at the back?” The two stopped outside the door, and Guu withdrew a bronze key. He fit it into the lock and turned the key. The door opened silently. Inside, several clan members were sitting down. I recognized Huey, Daggertoface, and many more squad leaders. Together they represented the best that Anbu had to offer. Guu stood up and addressed the clan. “As my panzers have told you, we’re under attack right now. Normally, I would have counter attacked by now, but Yuffie has given me an excellent alternative. If we bring our forces around the secret tunnel, we can attack the back of that army while they’re focused at the main gate.” I looked at everyone. You could never tell what they were thinking by looking at their faces or bodies. That was part of the reason why they were so effective. Guu began concluding his orders. “I want all of us to have the rest of the clan ready in five minutes, in the room outside the tunnel. I also need a messenger to give the main forces some more orders.” Handfist ran up, and Guu gave him some orders in sign language. Unfortunately, I could not read it. Handfist, with the exception of Guu, was the last one to exit the room. Guu quickly left the room and he made his way to the battle room. I had never been to the battle room much. The room was large, and it served as a training arena. It also led to the tunnel, which would help us circle around the enemy and hit them in the back. Yuffie was the first to get there. Guu noticed him entering and said, “Where’s your team, Yuffie?” Yuffie replied, “Dark assigned them to guard the secret tunnel.” Guu nodded. It must have been part of the orders he had given Handfist. Suddenly, a group of people flooded through the tunnel. I gave a shout, despite the fact that I could not affect the course of this battle. Guu and Yuffie turned to face the enemy. I looked at the enemy, searching for the faces. I saw them. Horazon, Unholyshot, and Eos were in the middle of the group rushing towards Yuffie and Guu. Suddenly, a knife stabbed through Guu’s back. I had been concentrating so much on Horazon that I had forgotten to watch Guu. Guu was on his knees, and he moved his hammer in vain. He gasped, and tried to speak, but blood came out of his mouth and his heart. I saw Huey run in with his team, and I saw his eyes grow wide with shock as Guu fell. I was wrong. It had not been Horazon who killed Guu. It was Guu’s own brother, Yuffie Kisiragi. |

Chapter 8 (as told by Going2Lose) Wednesday 7:15 pm I was locked in the infirmary with Dark, who was lying on the bed. Apparently they thought either he was doomed, or they thought I was defenseless. Either way, I was stuck in this room, staring out the window. The room was kind of dull. The walls were painted white, and there were three rows of beds. There was a medicine cabinet on the wall, and several emergency heal staffs. Dark was lying on the bed to the far right. He had been long since stripped of his armor, and left to wear a hospital suit. He breathed lightly, but otherwise didn’t move. For the past few hours after the clan had left with Yuffie, Aesir headquarters had become quieter, except for a few applicants who were assigned to guest quarters. However, I soon noticed that someone had entered the Headquarters. He or she was being very careful not to trip any alarms, but after hours of silence, I could pinpoint a soft footstep falling on the carpet. The doorknob jiggled, and I tensed. I had been long since been stripped away of any staffs and wands I was carrying, but I would not let myself go down without a fight. Horazon had most likely come to back to finish Dark off. The door opened, and a mage peered inside. He wore an emblem on his left shoulder. Usually the emblem signified which clan the mercenary was from, but I could not tell what the emblem was for. The mage walked in and spotted me. He extended a hand. “Hello. If you’re wondering who I am, my name is homegrownpeas, and I was sent by Hired_Killer to repay a debt to your brother. I have a few other HiredForce members waiting outside if you need help in doing whatever you need to do.” Homegrownpeas finished his verbose introduction a few minutes later. I looked at his emblem. It was a black dragon pasted on a black background. It looked like Hired_Killer had put a lot of thought in this. It was extremely ugly. Homegrownpeas pointed to dark. “What’s wrong with him?” “Nothing.” “Touchy mages….” I walked out of the room, and homegrownpeas ran after me, undeterred. A blacksmith was walking out of a room. I called out, “Hey you, janitor! When you’re done cleaning that room, clean up the infirmary!” The blacksmith turned to me and seethed, “My name is Imrichbioch and I’m not a janitor. I’m applying to join Aesir.” I rolled my eyes. “You look like a janitor. Anyway, why aren’t waiting in the recruitment room with everyone else?” “It’s kind of annoying in there. Xionix won’t shut up.” Homegrownpeas looked excited. “Hey, Going2Lose, are we going after Juste?” “I don’t think so. Hired_Killer sent me help for a reason. He probably meant for me to escape before I am executed.” Imrichbioch followed me. “Is dark_rz here? He’s my hero.” I turned to him. “If it’s okay, please go to the recruiting room. I have some stuff to do.” I turned to Homegrownpeas, who was drawing a picture on the wall. “Stop drawing the HiredForce crest on the wall. It kind of gives away the fact that you’ve been here.” Imrichbioch grumbled and left, while Homegrownpeas said, “I didn’t think of that.” I sighed. I was screwed. “Are there any safe havens where I can disappear to?” Homegrownpeas nodded. “You can stay at HiredForce headquarters. Nobody knows where it is yet.” Suddenly someone started running down the stairs screaming, “You’re gay!!!!” I sighed again. Xionix wanted to apply for Aesir? He would drive Dark crazy, if Dark ever woke up. Soon after, eight people ran down the stairs chasing him with their weapons held over their head. I went to the battle room with Homegrownpeas following at my heels. I quickly picked out my old staff, and put it to my belt fondly. I had been through a lot with this staff. We left the room two minutes later. Homegrownpeas had been quiet for the last few minutes but he decided to speak this time. “Are we leaving?” “Yea” I wasn’t watching where I was going and I bumped against a blacksmith’s knee. “Watch where you’re going, Janitor.” “Janitor?” asked an amused voice. I looked up and found myself staring in Dark’s eyes. |

Chapter 9: Memories of the Fallen Part 3 (as told by Eos) Friday 3:50 am “Eos, Eos, what’s wrong with you?” It was Horazon. He had stood for my shift as guard. The night was cold, and the stars were shining brightly. The moon was hidden underneath some clouds, and the only sound that could be heard were the sound of crickets. I coughed, and I said, “Sorry Horazon.” He looked concerned. “Was it that dream again?” “Yea” I got up and told Horazon, “Look, I’m not going to get much sleep tonight anyway. Get some rest.” Horazon shook his head. “You’re too sick to stand guard. Go back to sleep.” “Horazon….am I going to die?” Horazon laughed, but I knew it was fake. The ground felt hard against my back, and I smelled the wet grass. “You’re a dumbass, Eos. You’re not going to die.” I coughed four times. Unholyshot was sound asleep next to me. I turned to Horazon. “You’ll be all right?” “Go to sleep. We’ll take you to the doctor tomorrow” **** We didn’t manage to kill Yuffie after he killed Guu and we regretted it now. The four of us, Lord_Anubis, Horazon, Unholyshot and I, had joined Unforgiven to try and destroy Yuffie before he could get Guu. Unfortunately, it failed. After Yuffie killed Guu, an invading army came in under Yuffie’s orders and wiped out the remainder of Anbu. Skylightleo, the leader of Unforgiven, quickly ordered a retreat. Driven by revenge, the four of us decided to leave Unforgiven to pursue Yuffie. We had been fools. We had been confident that Yuffie did not know we were following him when it had been really the other way around. He led us to the Cage, where he turned around and said, “Come out of hiding and face me like men.” We stared at each other in shock. Horazon said confidently, “C’mon guys, it’s four to one.” We quickly moved out behind the four boxes we were hiding behind, and drew out our weapons. Yuffie drew his knife out. It was a strange knife, with intricate markings dancing throughout the blade. He smiled, and I felt myself liking him, even though we were enemies. Yuffie had always had an ability to charm people. “Touching. Such loyalty to my dead brother.” Unholyshot and I simultaneously shot an arrow at him, but Yuffie grabbed them out of the air with one hand gracefully. Horazon and Lord_Anubis moved forward, working together flawlessly, as Horazon attacked him at the front and Lord_Anubis circled around to his back. Both of them swung, and Yuffie jumped into the air, knocking Horazon down with his legs. Lord_Anubis swung again, as Horazon gasped. Yuffie blocked with his knife, and sent Lord_Anubis’s sword flying into the air. Unholyshot and I finally found a target that would not risk injuring Horazon and Lord_Anubis, and we sent another volley flying towards Yuffie. Yuffie dodged again and flew towards me. I moved away quickly, but Yuffie was way too fast. I felt his knife plunge into my ribs, and draw out just as quickly. I fell to my knees, coughing as the blood flowed quickly from what seemed to be a shallow wound. Yuffie’s blade did not show a stain of blood on it. Yuffie laughed and looked surprised. “The rumors were true then. I guess this knife really is cursed.” I was having trouble breathing, and I managed to gasp out, “Cursed?” Yuffie parried a few thrusts from Lord_Anubis and jumped back. “Yes, Eos, cursed. Guu had this knife in his possession for a long time, and he never let me use it because he knew it was cursed.” Yuffie evaded another arrow from Unholyshot and continued toying with us. “I wasn’t stupid. I knew that if the knife was really cursed, it would take a blood price from me. However, by studying some ancient texts in the Anbu library, I was able to find a way around it.” Horazon looked at Yuffie and said quietly, “It was Guu, wasn’t it?” Yuffie grinned. “No. It only required Guu’s hammer, the Demonstar. I chose to give this knife more. I should tell you Horazon, you should be worrying more about your teammate Eos though. I told you the knife was cursed, didn’t I? I just gave Eos a wound that cannot heal.” Unholyshot shot another arrow at Yuffie, who dodged to the left and sliced the arrow in half as it flew by. Suddenly Yuffie disappeared, and reappeared at Lord_Anubis’s side, gripping his throat. His grin never faded, although the look in his eyes showed the evil malice that was in Yuffie. He turned to Horazon. “This was your idea, wasn’t it Jason?” Horazon flinched. I knew that Horazon’s past had been bloody, but he never spoke about it. Yuffie didn’t finish ranting. “Because of you, my army that I created was decimated. And now, I’m going to have to find people to replace my loyal followers.” He grinned again, and I felt my heart drop. “I’ll start by recruiting you guys.” He pressed his knife against Lord_Anubis’s throat. Lord_Anubis yelled out suddenly, “KILL ME NOW! HURRY UNHOLYSHOT!” Unholyshot raised his bow and notched an arrow behind him. Yuffie moved behind Lord_Anubis, allowing Unholyshot a free target. Yuffie called out, “I’m going to tell you the truth. If you don’t kill him, Unholy, you’re going to regret it later.” With that, Unholyshot’s resolve broke down. He lowered his arrow and said defeated, “I can’t do it…” Yuffie spat on the ground. “Weak as ever, Unholy. Now I’m going to have to teach you guys a lesson for what happens when you disobey me.” He drew out his blade, and Lord_Anubis struggled to get free from Yuffie’s iron grip. He pressed it against Lord_Anubis’s face, and in a moment, it was over. Horazon and I threw up, as silent tears fell down Unholyshot’s face, who whispered, “I’m sorry”, over and over again. Lord_Anubis dropped to the ground, howling, clutching the eye socket where his eye used to be. **** Horazon stared at Eos, whose wounds had not healed from that day. Everyday the blood flowed out, no matter how many bandages were placed to staunch the flow. Eos groaned again, a clear indicator that he was having that dream again. Since that day passed, the group had never had a day of rest. Yuffie had claimed them as slaves, and slaves they were treated as. The only noticeable disappearance was Lord_Anubis, who was kept to keep the group in check. Horazon lit up a cigarette. He never used to smoke, but he didn’t care anymore. The worst that could happen was that he could die early, and that would be a blessing. Yuffie had grinded the group’s spirit into dust. A few days ago, Yuffie had ordered Horazon to kill dark_rz, something that Horazon would have never done a week ago. Horazon had hoped killing dark_rz would have granted the group a brief respite, but Yuffie only drove them harder. Eos moaned again, and stopped abruptly. Horazon got up from his guard position and moved over to Eos. “Eos?” he asked softly. There was no reply. Horazon placed his hand on Eos’s heart. No pulse. Eos had managed to escape this hell, and for that Horazon was envious of him. Horazon let Eos lie, so that Unholyshot could get more sleep. The fires burned brightly as Horazon resumed guard position. And if anyone had slipped past Horazon’s defenses, they would have seen silent tears flowing down his face. |

Chapter 10 (as told by Juanmaster) Sunday 10:14 am Somehow, we had been walking for four days. The trek was long, and we were all tired. Yuffie was still wearing his hood as he led us through the forest we were in. At first, we were wary of Yuffie, but it didn’t take him long to regain our trust. To make the trek easier, I had chosen to wear my Runet armor. That was a mistake. The air was frigid and I could see my breath as we moved down the forest path. The forest itself seemed harmless, but we learned not to take its deceptive appearance too seriously. We had already been attacked by a group of dragons. I lit up a cigarette. Gripmasta noticed, and snatched it out of hands. He said, “Yo, bitch. Smoking is bad for you. Freakin’ Mexicans.” Then he put the cigarette in his own mouth. He crept in closer, and whispered. “Okay, Juanmaster. I’m getting a bad feeling about Yuffie.” “Are you freaking kidding me? Give me back my cigarette.” Gripmasta replied, “Dude, I smoked it already. Look, I’m telling you, something’s wrong here.” I whispered under my breath, “How would you know?” “I’m the Gripmasta, bitch.” Gripmasta left me pondering what he meant, and he took my cigarette with him. Suddenly Yuffie stopped in the middle of the road. We could see the end of the forest. As the trees parted, we could see a huge tower. Yuffie said, “That’s the Cozy Tower. All of them are hiding there.” Juste drew his blade and trembled in rage. He had been waiting a long time to attack Horazon. The rest of the clan drew their weapons out. Yuffie said softly, “Stop Juste. Attack too quickly and the tower will fall. Follow me. I have a quicker and safer way of getting inside. Instead of going in, we began to take a more roundabout route. We walked for five minutes, jumping over jagged rocks and quicksand patches. Suddenly, an arrow emerged out of S_Zone and SirMaximus’s back, and both of them dropped down. We looked up and we saw an archer standing on the branches of a tree. He grabbed two more arrows from his quiver and pulled them against his string. <Odie pulled an arrow of his own out, but Yuffie laid a hand across his bow quickly. “Go!” he ordered. “Follow the path. I’ll meet up with you later.” Juste protested, but Yuffie took out his knife, and said, “GO! NOW!” Gripmasta ran into the front, and began dashing. The rest of us began following quickly. We were panting hard, and every few seconds we turned around to see if anybody was following us. We could hear the whistle of arrows. Birds flocked out of a section of the forest, cawing. Suddenly, the forest went still, and we emerged into what seemed to be the middle of the forest. There were no trees, but the grass grew wildly. In the middle was a lake. It sparkled against the sunlight. A pole stuck out of the center of the lake, and a figure appeared to be attached to it. Gripmasta moved ahead to get a view, and suddenly turned away. The rest of us were curious and we moved closer to get a better look. XxfoamxX looked more closely, and suddenly ran to the edge of the lake and threw up. The putrid scent of vomit rose over us, as I finally saw the body across the lake. It was Lord_Anubis. His body had been horrifically mutilated. He was missing an eye, and he was bald. His chest was cut open and full of beetles, which were feasting upon his decomposed flesh. A sword was attached to his arm and almost turned upon himself. It was obvious Lord_Anubis had tried to kill himself before whoever did this to him had started. A look of agony was his last expression. Only a few of us were left. <Odie, Frakir, Juste, XxfoamxX and I stood around the water’s edge. Suddenly, Yuffie jumped out from the trees, clutching a body in his left arm, while his right arm held an archer. We got a closer look at the body, and Juste looked surprised. “I guess Going2Lose was right.” Unholyshot had been slashed across the face several times, and his chest was open. Gripmasta looked troubled. Yuffie shrugged and threw Unholyshot’s body into the water. Gripmasta spoke. “Who was Unholyshot to you, Yuffie? Did you kill him because he didn’t do his job right? What’s wrong with you? Did you want us to see your work?” Gripmasta spat into the water. “You wanted us to see Lord_Anubis right? You wanted to brag about what you did to him. You’re sick.” <Odie said, “What are you talking about Grip? This is Yuffie.” Yuffie turned around after watching Unholyshot sink below the clam water. In his hand was the knife. Yuffie smiled. “It looks like you were brighter than I thought, Grip. And yes, I wanted all of you to see what happened to Lord_Anubis. To answer your other questions, Unholyshot was my slave, and I killed him because he bored me.” We had drawn our weapons by then, and Yuffie feigned fear. “Oh what shall I do? Five against one?” Suddenly Yuffie lunged forward, and stabbed Frakir in the chest. Frakir’s back literally exploded. Blood splattered around the field as Frakir’s body fell down. Juste blinked back angry tears, as Frakir fell to the ground. Yuffie ran towards Gripmasta but Gripmasta managed to knock his blade back, and counter slashed. Juste ran forward, with his runet sword in his right hand. All of a sudden, a knife flew out of the trees. <Odie quickly equipped a shaft to his string, and shot the knife down in midair. Juste turned to the trees, with his sword in his hand. He picked up the knife and inspected it. All of a sudden he roared out, “Come out Falcon! I don’t have time to play games with you.” Falcon jumped out of the trees and landed on the ground softly. “Juste, you can eat my poop-sicles.” Juste said, “Shut the hell up.” All of a sudden, Juste ran up and slashed Falcon across his face. Falcon backed up, and slashed Juste in the chest. The two of them locked swords and jumped back. <Odie pulled my arm before I could throw an axe at Falcon. “What the hell?” I whispered. <Odie put his finger against his lips. “We’re gonna get Horazon. There’s going to be more people coming and we’re going to need all the help we can.” |
