I expect an Emperor-class one could shoot starships out of orbit. Lighter ones, at least.

Depends on what exact mechs we're looking at, too. 'Gundams' in particular are meant to be unique superweapons that there's only, like, five of at any given time, while plain ol' mobile suits are way slower and weaker. The Battlemech equivalent would be a zillion-dollar one off superweapon that can lay waste to armies.

No secha beastie though. 'Mech construction tops out at 100 tons. Even if you tricked one out with the best possible weaponry in the game, triple-strength muscle bundles, and a melee weapon (why oh God why did they do that), it would likely only be a match for one of the lesser mobile suits.

The reason why is obvious: Battletech is a game system with rules. Gundam is a science-fantasy anime show with a rather loose "authors' bible". Same reason physics in Star Trek change based on the need of the Enterprise to get out of whatever mess it's currently in.

You'd just want to drop the Life-Eater. I think a planet-wide firestorm is enough.

Oh so we're including fluff as well...

What if the Imperitor Titan was written by CS Goto then? I'm sure it could survive via the mystical powers of bullshit.

Nope-Horus tried that on Istavaan and the Titan survived.

Yeah, but that was Horus. The only one who was a bigger failure is Abaddon.

You could use Wazzdakka. He managed to kill a Warlord. He'd just need a bigger ramp for an Imperator.

Good point. Depends on what Gundam series you're talking about though, some are darker and more 'realistic' than others.

Heck, someone should make a Gundam tabletop game. They're already merchandise whores and I bet otaku would eat it up.

...while we're asking, what if you had to customise a battlemech specifically to take down one of those plot-armoured girly men in a suit, eh?

STU-K5 Stuka Aerospace Fighter, modified to carry three Gauss Cannon, and hauling as many bombs as it can lift.

If it was with, say, 52mm mechs, who were sold as multi-part, unpainted plastic kits, I'd expect to see a sudden rise in the number of Tau superheavy walkers doing the rounds.

An Atlas, fully load of lasers and missiles.

After the artillery strikes.

And airstrikes.

And naval bombardments.

I dunno about all this artillery. I mean, the little buggers are lightning fast and can fly, hitting them with tons of laser turrets is next to impossible, let alone relatively big and slow projectiles.

I'd splurge on seeker missiles, lasers and tracking gear. You wanna blow him outta the sky before he gets within a hundred beam sword-lengths.

The artillery isn't to hit him, it's to keep him pinned as best they can into one area.

GM Sniper makes your strategy ineffective.

I suspect that big cylinder it's coupled to is going to make it an easy target -- drop a bucketload of arty in the area, and either blow the plant, or sever the power feeds.... :)

Actually, that's the rifle's cooling system, so the rifle can be fired without it, just not very quickly or it might burn out after one shot. Either way the mobile suit's (it's not actually a gundam) combat effectiveness is only reduced, not eliminated.

EDIT: Actually, I just watched the episode where the GM Sniper appears and it can operate just fine without the coolent system.

Really, it's a question of infantry versus tanks now. Mobile suits are deployed in squads at least, Gundams are the equivalent of hero units or something.

Pretty much, though it depends on the series. In UC era series (anything set in the same time line as the original gundam series) Gundams are treated more as squad leader mechs and are usually deployed in a squad and while superior they can still be fought with a mass production suit if the pilot is skilled enough. In alternate time line series (Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed, etc.) they do tend to be the uber untouchable mechs that can destroy a regular mobile suit just by looking at it.
