I feel old knowing that I
[*] was born the same year Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt, and Gauntlet came out.
[*] was born the same year Back to the Future came out.
[*] remember watching the Berlin Wall fall.
[*] first saw Will Smith on Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
[*] have the Nightmare Before Christmas, The Great Mouse Detective, Goldeneye, and episodes of Charlie Brown on VHS.
[*] remember Beta and 8-track.
[*] STILL have a Tandy 1000 computer. (the original, none of that 1000 EX or 1000 HD crap)
[*] remember having an LCD TMNT handheld and everyone being jealous.
[*] STILL have a Sonic the Hedghog 3 LCD handheld.
[*] remember when Family Guy WASN'T on the air.
[*] thought that Captain N was the best show on TV.
[*] remember playing Fallout 2: Tactics, Planscape: Torment, and Diablo for the first time.
[*] remember selling my SuperNES.
[*] lost my Nintendo 64 and X-Box in college. (had that 64 since '96, and X-Box since '99 T_T)
[*] sold my Wii.
[*] had an angelfire site.

I feel young knowing that I
[*] am up to date with most technologies.
[*] have a subscription to a gaming magazine.
[*] love cartoons.
[*] have action figures on a shelf.
[*] find fart jokes funny.
[*] hate reading the newspaper.

And that's the end of THAT edited chapter.

Since we seem to be listing here...

* Still fondly remember the WB 90's cartoons with a "Man, cartoons today are nothing like (cartoon)!"
* My first video game was C&C Red Alert
* I saw the first episodes of Toonami ever broadcast
* The greatest innovation I'd ever seen in gaming was the Game Boy color.
* My school used 80's Apple Macintosh computers.
* I had "Street Sharks" toys.
* The internet was something strictly regulated by my parents.
* Teams from Philadelphia were considered terrible losers, bar none.
* Men in Black was the greatest movie ever.
* My grandfather didn't have moderate Alzheimers.
* Pokemon cards were so awesome my school had to ban them from the building.
* I knew nothing of spikey haired nancy boys from japanese video games. Life was so good back then.

Who feels old? Or young?

When I was a child, people described me as (for ex.) "five going on fifty". I had _The Raven_ memorized -- and understood what it meant. I understood what Dr. Seuss was *really* going on about. I knew the *true* ending to fairy tales -- the endings which explain why they were called "Grimm's".

Scaring the hell out of Vietnam veterans by being able to perform the "Asiatic Stare" (200 yards in a 20-foot room) was just one of an arsenal of tricks.

And, to compare with all of your comparatively-wussy laundry-lists :) , I remember:

-- Smog alerts in the L.A. Basin cancelling recess (I loved this; I was the only kid who wasn't bored to tears by a Library);

-- *BOTH* of the '70s Oil Crises (I heard someone bitch about $3 gasoline, and I called him a "fucking pussy" in front of at least 200 witnesses);

-- The Iranian Hostage crisis, including Mr. Peanut's Epic Fuck-up;

-- A time when Steven Spielberg was best-known for a TV movie about a homicidal semi-truck, as opposed to a Fish approximately as big and ill-tempered;

-- When the only 7-time NASCAR champion was known as "The King", and not renowned for being a smirking asshole;

-- Fucking Corduroy Trousers... goddamned motherfucking corduroy fucking trousers (the ones which made that "vwip-vwip" noise whenever you walked; and when it stopped, it meant the crotch had worn out, and your mother would drag you off to buy another pair of the bloody things);

-- Nuclear war being a lead-pipe-cinch (why do you-all think I was studying military history?);

-- Getting to watch the US buttfuck South Vietnam on national TV;

-- AIDS being known as "Gay-Related Cancer"....

And y'all wonder *why* I act like this? >:)

Actually, I *think* that after csadn, I'm the next oldest here as I'm turning 29 in July.  So...you guys don't have much of a right to complain.

YET.  :P

I'm turning 29 in August, so right behind you on the 'grandfriends' list.

-I watched movies on Betamax when they were new on the shelves
-My family rented a VHS player and a copy of the 'Transformers' movie when it was a new release
-Tandy computers were viewed as 'so much cooler' than the Apple IIe's the library had then because the Tandys displayed in COLOR
-I watched channels in UHF
-I remember watching 'You Can't Do That On Television' and Dave Coulier's show (I forget the name) daily on Nickelodeon
-I saw the Challenger explode and at the time thought it was the worst thing I'd ever see ever
-I got to be made fun of in middle school for having the name 'Doug'. This is a pain that I, the Nostalgia Critic and countless other Dougs in our generation have experienced and will never forget OR FORGIVE
-I saw the first TMNT movie in theaters. Same with the Burton 'Batman'. I also saw 'Ghostbusters' and 'The Karate Kid' when they were new at a drive-in theater
-I got to watch Mystery Science Theater 3000 from the very start (sans the KTMA episodes)
-'The Empire Strikes Back' is only 15 months older than me

But what REALLY makes me feel old? Mentioning Kurt Cobain in front of a 13 year-old and getting only a blank look in return. This must have been how my father felt when talking music with me during my formative years.

So then pink really is a manly color.

The British used Pink as camouflage for their photo-reconnaissance Spitfires in WW2.

Or, at least, that's what they told the rest of the world. ;)

Yup. Worked perfectly, too.

Either that or the spotters who did report seeing pink spitfires were disciplined for being drunk on duty.

For some reason, that reminds me of the Cary Grant film Operation Petticoat in which a submarine was painted pink.

I think it actually does work, in certain sky conditions. Not being an expert on optics, I'd have to inquire as to how exactly it works..

The British Army also used pink in its desert camo.

"Hans, I see a Pink Spitfire up there -- shall I call it in?"

"Five words, Fritz: 'Meat Hooks and Piano Wire'."

[five years later]

"So *how* did we wind up losing the war?"

A Pink Spitfire sounds like what Vinnie Jones would call his penis if he ever got gonorrhea.

And now there's a Google search for 'burning urine std' in my history.
