While I'm sure that mentally, we're all twelve year olds, but I've been reading about the average age of internet users going "Fuuuck, there's sentient beings born after 9/11?"

Now I manage to avoid this because due to be poor and Australian I've always been about five years behind on everything, and thanks to my parents I mostly listen to music that's older than myself, thus I will remain an innocent happy manchild until kids start asking me what Digimon is.

Content:

  • I was born the year Super Mario World was released
  • And the Berlin Wall fell
  • Transformers, in my mind, is the Robots In Disguise anime.
  • I first saw Will Smith in Independence Day.
  • Kevin Conroy is my Batman.
  • All popular music is terrible.
  • Pokemon has been with me for all of my life that matters.
  • I've been active on the internet for almost ten years. Back when I had to lie about my age to get past an age limit of 13. (and I still had better spelling and grammar than everyone else)
Who feels old? Or young?

If my body conformed to my mental age, I'd be in a retirement home, shuffling around in slippers, and spinning tales from the halcyon days of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

I agree on feeling old. I was born on 1990, and while I was exposed to most of the current pop culture, I was also growing up with some black and white movies, and 70's music. And it did not help that I'm poor, so my family frequented yard sales, I didn't get home internet until I was 17, and almost never got a video game that was under 3 years old. Plus, both my paretns were 35 when they had me, and my grandparents were already in their 70's, which is no fun at all, seeing that there were kids in my school that still had their great grandparents around.

And in the past 5 years or so, I've been pushing myself into older decades. It started when I was reading 1960's Spider-man comics via the library. I then dug deeper into the histories of other superheroes. Now I've moved on to Tintin and Dick Tracy. Hell, I just got done reading the 5th Chinese daughter.

Yes, I certainly feel old, but then again, I don't hate everything new. I actually like some of the new cartoons and music. And I keep track of new games I can't afford through YouTube.

I respectfully disagree. You're not old until you bring children into the world.

Given that there are numerous examples of twelve-year-olds doing that in the UK, that's a crock of shit.

[*]I was born the year Super Mario World was released
[*]I've been active on the internet for almost ten years.

Same here for those points (although it's definitely over ten years for me).

Other things:
[*]I still own a whole ton VHS tapes, but barely any DVDs.
[*]First games system was just a keyboard rather than a block with controllers attached (Atari ST)
[*]I know how to make an MS-DOS boot floppy disk
[*]There's one on my desk right now
[*]My first mobile couldn't fit in my pocket
[*]Each time I remember walking down to the local library. They had the first broadband connection to use for free, so whenever my dad was at work (and hence I couldn't ask permission to use the pay-as-you-go dialup to go online) and I'd want to get some freeware games, I'd head down the road with a bunch of floppy disks. After a while of doing this, I'd eventually memorised my library card number (about 16 characters) and password. Shame the site I used to get all my games from was sold recently.
[*]My brother's getting married this summer. Puts things in perspective a bit.
[*]Seeing The Lion King & Toy Story in their original cinema releases.

Things that make me feel young:
[*]I realise that Calvin Harris has no love or hugs for me, nor will he do things for me.
[*]When I look at everyone else on my course. To get into here, you'd need a decent portfolio already, and since most colleges don't offer Graphic Design as a course, most uni entrants here took a foundation year, and then there's those who took a gap year as well. Then there's me, fresh from A Levels, stepping into uni at the regular 18 (and nowhere near 19), while everyone else on my course is nearly 20 or above.
[*]When people go to me for tech-help ('It's all newfangled and stuff').
[*]Every time I see my birthdate as '1990'.

Flyboy

Unfortunately so. But let's not derail this thread.

Old is 40 years old and up.

Old is when you stop enjoying Pokémon.

Or is that mature

Been 24 for a day now, and that feels oldish

But it's alright, apparently Calvin Harris has hugs for me. The fact I had no idea who he was until Pix posted that link makes me feel old. ._.

Things that make me feel old:

  • Calling 1990 20 years ago
  • Having played all of Nintendo's consoles when they were still state of the art.
  • Remembering when Michael Jackson was still respected.
  • Seeing how much the Pokemon franchise has grown.

Things that make me feel young.

  • Being carded for buying alchohol.
  • Still being a student.
  • The fact that I'm still playing pokemon.

Lost and tired...
[ * * * * * * * * * * ]
I remember:

-using computers that needed audio cassettes to save data
-when computers and keyboards were one unit
-using a Commodore 64 in the classroom
-when Mac computers were monochromatic
-playing that nasty-awful ET game on the Atari
-when leg warmers were big
-80's big hair and the hairspray brand "Aquanet"
-jean jackets, and "distressed" jean styles (holes and such)
-Abba, and all kinds of eighties tunes
-The Last Unicorn, Flight of Dragons movies on VHS
-all of the following (see my post)
-using 5.25" floppies
-using 3.5" floppies
-when "penny candy" actually cost just a penny
-the original He-man cartoon where Cringer actually spoke
-this particular ad
-chunky jewelry and bold primary colours
-watching the very first "Land Before Time" movie in the theatre
-watching the *shudder* Care Bears movies in the theatre
-Dad taping the referenced cartoons onto a Betamax tape to watch during the week
-the switch from a physical turn-knob-to-change-to-the-10-channels-available TV to a digital TV
-when there were only a small number of channels available to watch
-the original Strawberry Shortcake (I still have that doll, actually)
-the WWF (now known as the WWE) cartoon
-Neon clothing that burned your eyes just looking at it

There are other things I could be remembering, but mostly, I remember the cartoons.

Actually, I *think* that after csadn, I'm the next oldest here as I'm turning 29 in July. So...you guys don't have much of a right to complain.

YET. :P

I'm pretty sure that I at least will be playing Pokemon til the day I die.

And yes, I'm pretty sure Nintendo will be making Pokemon til then. There'll be thousands of the things and some people will still be bitching that the first 151 were the best.
