So yeah. Risks of home robots are being weighed. Thoughts?

Anything more than a glorified Roomba just isn't going to be worth the trouble until we have AI complex enough to even understand some equivalent of the Three Laws.

Right now, we can't even make them as smart as insects.

As long as we don't become human slaves in an insect nation, I'll be happy.

Same goes for a robotic nation.

Well at least humans are resourceful, making songs developed more for robots.

Because the humans are dead! The humans are dead! They used poisonous gases, and they poisoned our asses!!

I for one would love something akin to an ASIMO in the house, but what people fail to grasp is the support equipment required for such a device. Sure, most think of the robotic shell as ASMIO, but fail to comprehend that behind the scenes, you need the computer 'brain' of the ambulatory part plus the servicing gear for when (not if) it breaks itself. Thats great if it can be all in one pod (thanks, The Sims!) but what do you do when your 50 kilo buddy goes inert on the upper floor of your house? Thats gonna be a bitch to carry. Not to mention the initial cost...

I'm more of a Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros chap myself! ^_^

Back on topic, I think it'll be a good long while before robots are gonna get the green light into everyday life - we can chop our own fruit and veg, thanks, and besides if this robo-tasking does go ahead, even with additional software to avoid damage to us humans, there will still be evil dicks out there who will try to use knife-wielding robots to their advantage.

The Venn diagram set for people who are both 'evil dicks' and 'robot software engineers' is, presumably, a small one. Surely a dick with enough evil motivation could wield a knife himself with much less hassle?

"Evil dicks" and "Robot software engineers" may be minimal, but I'm sure "Evil dicks" and "Rich and corrupt enough to buy their own killer robots illegally" is much more likely.

Because there are more "rich evil people" than "rich nice people", to our world's dismay...

How about having another robot spare that fixes the first one?

And when that breaks you call up the emergency robot repair squad.

I can see where this is going...

But yeah, I think we could have robot helpers, but more Jarvis* style.

Wait, fuck.

Nice reference. Obscure, but nice.
