Aaahhhh it's my school's Prom night tonight. I don't have a date. It might be wacky.

Any wacky moments you remember in your High School Prom if you went?

I spent my prom in a basement bar playing pool and watching the Phillies game.

I never went to prom.
Didn't stop me from saying that I would, accepting a date, and then calling it off a couple weeks later.
I remember Homecoming Dance, though. My date and I threw these plastic tambourines into the air, and they hit this other girl. We laughed.

I was/still am an IRL troll.

I did not go. I was not that social back then. Even though being in a school with my class only having 16 people, I did know everyone. Just did not feel the need to attend prom.

My own stupidity also caused problems. A girl from the neighboring town whom I was friends with basically asked me in a round about way for me to ask her to prom. Me being my typical Asperger self, did not pick up on it in the slightest. Not until someone else spelled it out for me, but by that time she was already pissed at me. Oh well that's life

I went but didn't get a girl. My lack of romance in high school and current times was/is quite troubling.

I didn't go, either -- "let's see: I can't stand to be around these idiots when the taxpayers are footing the bill; why should I pay four digits of my own money to be around them?"

No, the "wacky" moment came *beforehand* -- I was asked by quite a few girls if I was going, and if I'd selected a date yet. Turns out the main (if not only) reason they wanted to go out with me was the fact that I *wasn't* a Sex-Crazed Teenager (I lived in the L.A. area for god's sake -- Saturation, folks).

I had to turn them down; however, I *did* allow as how they *could* explain to their dates that I *would* take a particular interest in any cases of Untoward Behavior... interest best defined as "You make her cry; *I* make *YOU* cry". (If you've ever seen the e-mail about Why You Should Never Date The Daughter Of A Search-And-Rescue Operator -- that was me, in a nutcase. >:) )

The following Monday, I was receiving an even wider berth than usual, and more than a few Nervous Looks.... >:)

Prom? When I was in school, prom was only something that happened on TV, during every TV show/cartoon set in American high school. It hadn't yet been imported iRL.

Must've come in waves. We had something that though not called a prom, per se, I believe fit the bill.

No, I didn't go. I didn't much care to endure their presence when I had to. I wasn't going to spond extra time and money I didn't need to, pretending not to loathe them in my own time.

I got a couple of years on you, though, finished secondary school in 1999. 'Course it's entirely possible that the import was on its way, but simply hadn't reached the sticks Oop North.

We call it a school social here. I actually got invited twice since I did my last grade over two years. I turned down the first one but went to the second, had fun, got a bit drunk and argued with a tree, the usual.

Bloody trees, always think they're right don't they?

Didn't go, or was warned not to go my headmaster. Honestly, you steal some science lab stuff and hit on his daughter and suddenly I'M the badguy.

I guess we had something like it, called it a ball.

Still didn't go. My friends and I held a separate get-together loosely entitled "We never have to see any of those other guys again". Good times.

Hah. No. I thought most of them were twats when I was forced to be around them (Although things did get better in the last year before sixth form), and I wasn't going to waste any of my own time around them.

I went to the prom, but most of us didn't really care if you had a girl or not. We often just stuck around with our friends and apparently get drunk and smoke the hours away.

Shit DJ tho.

OH YOU WANT WACKY PROM STORIES.

My prom night was potentially the worst fucking night of my life, for both me and my date. We didn't know each other, it was a set-up from a mutual friend. Night of the prom started great when I sprouted a giant, GIANT zit. The girl was extremely passive and had no interest in dancing or doing much at all besides sitting in a corner and talking, while I was like... c'mon it's a freaking prom, let's go, let's DO something, get off your ASS. The food was awful, the dance floor was the size of a postage stamp, the music was awful, and my date's searing hatred for me was clearly growing through the night.

But it didn't get TRULY shitty until the afterparty, which was like a mini-carnival held in the high school. The first thing I discovered was that the button on the casual pants I'd packed had fallen off, so my pants were half-falling-down for the rest of the night. The girls, again, had no interest in doing a goddamn thing at the carnival, EXCEPT the key event of the night, which, for some fucking reason, was a Fear-Factor-style contest where you had to do stupid and gross things like eating weird mystery meat (while they showed footage of guys chewing on tarantulas and buffalo testicles) or sticking your hand in a vat of crickets to search for a clicker-thing. The cardboard hole I stuck my hand through to do the latter was TINY, and my hand got STUCK IN THE VAT OF CRICKETS (A PHRASE THAT SHOULD NOT BE INCLUDED IN YOUR PROM NIGHT STORY), after which, watching them eat the goddamn freak-meat with the bovine-nut-chewing-footage, I promptly ran outside and PUKED ALL OVER THE PARKING LOT (SEE ABOVE NOTE).

My "date" from that night has never spoken to me since, and I'm OKAY WITH THAT.

Well, the DJ was okay at my prom, but the music was terrible overall, though they did play some epic techno and all that. Even the chicken dance, too. I tore up the dance floor with my awesome dance moves. I even got involved with the Train.

I got an ass ton of pictures, too. So I guarantee that my High School Prom was much better than any other school's.

We don't have proms here in Canada. That's an American thing. We just have dances. But even then, it was only for Grad that they did the major party.

I skipped all of the dances, because I was an insecure, fat, fashion-challenged, idiotic, bullied, twit of a girl that couldn't handle being in big crowds with loud, shitty music that I wasn't listening to at the time, and bright flashing lights that causes panic attacks.

Come to think of it, I'm still more or less the same as I was then, minus the bullied part... :(

I even skipped my graduation. I couldn't be bothered; why on earth would I celebrate the worst years of my life? And besides, I didn't want my parents to pay over $1000 for one night because, let's face it, they couldn't afford it (gown rental, over-priced tickets to the meal, photos, ring, dress, hair, etc). Whup-dee-fucking-do, it's graduation from high school, it's meaningless in the real world; it's what you do and the education you get after that's far more important. Besides, I was out of the province when it happened, making my mom really pissed off about it because she wanted to go. I told her back in the eighth grade that I was never going to grad, but she didn't believe me.

No, graduating from vocational college with honours, and securing a job immediately after was far more important to me than the one-of-the-circles-of-hell k-12 years I had to endure.

Besides, geeks and nerds don't go to dances; it's too awkward, ya know? :P

No, no! It's 10 years ago now....and... holy shit, time flies...

Besides, there are other people that will tell you that they had an absolutely wonderful time in grade school, and that their prom was the best.

Really, I should have kept my mouth shut...

>_<

Can I blame it on the bleach fumes? Can I, can I, can I? Please, please, huh huh?

But, when you think about it, we're the freaks, geeks, and nerds all congregating together here; we don't need no stinkin' prom! We have Star Trek, sports, Dr Who, Star Wars, science, animé, and other more important stuff to think about than a one night glorified, overly expensive, clique-y dance party! :D
