Now, now -- there's no need to speak to the Argentine contingent like that.... >;)

(Side note: Most of the Tea Party types I know -- and BTW: I am *not* one myself, tho' I do agree with some of it -- are not "raving loonies"; unfortunately, between the bigotry of the Media and the fact that any public anti-gov't gathering is going to attract one flavor or another of Wingnuttery... ah, fuck it; let's just have the Second Civil War and get it over with.)

I can only speak for every piece of information I have seen on the movement, and from that I would say none of them should be allowed near sharp objects for the safety of themselves and those around them. But that's nothing to do with British politics, that's your nutty colonial politics and I shall have no truck with it when I have my own conservatives to yell at.

Pix, that was a thing of beauty.

From what I've gathered, since everyone in the UK is either polarised or completely apathetic towards politics, it's ended in a tie and all kinds of insanity results.

And I don't see the Tea Party crowd as all nutters, even if I don't like their ideas at all. There's at least as much media on that side as against it, I always get a laugh out of the myth of the 'liberal media'. I've been keeping track of what's going on, and really, deep down they're more like hypocrites.

It's likely the case of the few ruining it for the many. But it is nice to watch selected clips of them on the Daily Show or stumble upon collections of their mis-spelt signs.

Back on track.

You wanna see the true colours of a Tea Party, show up as a black (or middle eastern) person. Doesn't matter what else you do.

Take a camera as well. You'd be stopped under the Terrorism Act faster than you can say "Professional Photographer".

I don't get why everyone thinks we're about to begin a long and painful slide back to Thatcherism.

In theory it shouldn't happen as long as the Libs keep everything in check.

That really depends if the Lib's have the actual power to prevent alot of things despite their new positions.

Well we seem to agree about how Ann coulter is little more than a raving loonatic, so IMO it's not much further of a streatch to facepalm at the Birthers/tea party movement.

*eyerolls*

Been to a Tea Party meeting. Couple thousand people showed up. Two were Birthers, one a ranter on the order of Coulter. Everyone else? Worried about spending the country into the Greek Position.

A big obvious reason political threads get killed on these boards is that everyone seems to think a political picture is best painted with the biggest possible brush and the thickest possible tar.

Then perhaps you should be talking to the people who bring colonial politics into British politics and thus prompt responses from people who actually know a bit of what they're talking about.

Yeah, and it isn't your job to finish it. I was kind of hoping people would drop the matter, but that's what I get for assuming people have enough sense to drop matters.

No, says the coalition in Downing Street, it belongs to the rich and the poor.

No, says the man in the Inquistion, it belongs to us.

No, says the people in the internet, it belongs to everyone.

I'm just glad that The Daily Show helped me understand how the British electoral process works now.

Long live Prime Minister Winston Furchill!

I jest, I jest. I do have to give you guys props for the whole '6-week campaign' process, as opposed to the US's "Hey, I just got elected yesterday. Time to start campaigning for reelection!" system. That and your flashy technology coverage with the guy in the holographic green room was very cool looking.

The lack of political advertising on TV or the radio beyond the Party Political Broadcasts is pretty nice. The posters work a little better because they're uniformly mocked.

"We can't go on like this, chaps."

Here's my idea for political reform:

Don't like something Parliament's done (or hasn't done)? Riot and burn things. Preferably things belonging to your MP (unless they've claimed them on expenses, in which case you are perfectly justified in confiscating them for your own personal use).

If they still refuse to change their minds, eat their children. Then urinate upon the smoldering ashes of their homes and other worldly possessions.

If they acquiesce and comply with the angry mob's demands, each person shall kick the offender in the arse in turn, then politely tip his hat whilst remarking "About time, you bloody wanker" as he proceeds about his merry day.

Repeat as necessary.

Not only that, but every future session of Parliament must begin with a recital of H.M.S. Pinafore in its entirety.
