MY area turned conservative, tho only by 2000 votes. Not that surprising tho, as Labour's Ann Keen was prominant in the news on expenses, but judging by the 2000 gap, it wasn't a huge issue. Now the question is are we looking at LibCon, a LabLib, or some other combination. |

I think you mean votes there, Jeff =P I'd love to see a constituency with 2000 seats, though. And for Parliament to be like the Galactic Senate from Star Wars.
I'd say the LibDems will party up with the Conservatives. Clegg expressed non-desire to work with Brown in the past few weeks. |

He wasn't exactly goody goody with the conservatives either tho. But he is emphasising that who has the largest should have the right. However, most suspect the polucy of electoral reform will be a key issue. Labour putting on the table an outright policy if they join them, while the cons will only do a review. We'll see tho. |

If he does buddy up to the Tories the backlash will be immense from those who voted Libe Dem against Tory. The Lib Dems will be anhilated. |

If Brown went (And he will, you can bet someone's already gunning for a leadership challenge) odds are the LibDems would be far more willing to work with Labour. And of course, the promise of a referendum on proportional representation is a strong incentive for the formation of a centre-left coalition. Of course, assuming actually do put forward a referendum for a change. |

So who do you thinkl would be in charge of Labour then if Brown did step down? Alot are saying David Milliband would be a high choice. |

No, that's them saying morally they should be allowed to form a government since they are the largest party. Constitutionally however, that isn't the case as they did not pass the 326 seat mark. It's why we still don't know who will be in charge. |

Exactly. This election was almost entirely pointless. I say "almost", as it does demonstrate that Britain is hopelessly divided.... :P Oh, yes, and that no matter where you go, Libertarians are going to get fucked in the ass. |

I'm a first time voter this year (and went for lib-dems BTW) and I've heard alot of negative things about both Labour and the Tories. Forgive my ignorance, but it seems right now it's a desicion for the lib-dems to work with the lesser of two evils. I have a bad taste in my mouth left over for conservatives because of american republicans, but just by an interview with Ann Coulter *coughidiotcough*, I know for a fact that the tories are FAR more inteligent. Exactly how much better they are and if they are trustworthy I don't know. On the other hand, I don't exactly trust labour to get things done anyway, with what little I know about them. So it kinda feels like no matter who the lib-dems end up working with, it's a case of damned if you do, damned if you don't! But hopefully they will get something in place. |

And how terrible our parliamentary election system is. Labour got under two million more votes than the Lib Dems but over 200 more seats. Thus those two million extra votes mean Labour have a lot more say in Parliament than the Lib Dems. Except, y'know, for this whole hung parliament business. Also it gives London a larger say in running the country than, for example, Wales. |

In the US, most states have a similar problem -- the way the votes are counted, Large Cities invariably run roughshod over Farmland. I live in a case-study: Oregon. The state is essentially run by "the I-5 Corridor" -- the three cities along Interstate 5 (north-to-south: Portland, Salem, Eugene). The Corridor is the *only* part of the state which votes Democrat; yet the state gov't is dominated by Democrats; so far, the saving grace is OR Democrats shade Centrist more than, say, the Northeast Corridor (New England) "limousine liberals". Pretty-much, tho', anywhere you find a Democrat-voting state, you'll find a state where 50.1%+ of the population is Urban. Re "Ed Balls": And this asshole was Minister for Education -- I'm surprised kids in school learn anything, what with all the sniggering.... "BALLS TO THE PRIME MINISTER!" >:) |
