congrats kids, first your dad dies at christmas and now were giving the dog he spent eons saving up to buy for you to someone else...who was probably the thief who stole her.

you have to wonder where this guy got the dog from, and why he hasnt told the police, see why i came to that conclusion? she was even chipped by her 'original owners' and apparently that doesnt count for shit.
i'm glad no ones tried to steal my jasper, he isnt chipped but if someone else came up with some bullshit claim excuse id be in prison for horiffic torture murder or something.

i guess its clear i really like dogs lol.

It's easy to blame the new owner for "not realising" but since chipping a dog is not legally required or mandatory, you can't say he knew he was buying a stolen dog. And since there is no eveidence to the contrary, the police can't legally do anything to get the dog back.

apart from when you buy a dog you get all sorts of papers on them, and the chip is registered in the owners name...that kind of evidence?

You know, el-b, we have this little concept, it's called "rule of law". You can at least pretend it's a good thing. If the police find some kind of evidence, then yeah, go ahead, get the dog back, but until then, what can they do?

But... surely if you buy stolen goods, even unknowingly, you're shit out of luck if it gets traced to you? Aren't you? Quick Google search brought this info about used cars, under the heading 'Problems':

If you discover you've bought a stolen car, you have a problem. The police can return it to the original owner, and you won't receive a penny back

What's the difference?

Dogs don't cost £1.20 a gallon to fill up.

My god, what's next?
The good new is that we found your stolen identity. The bad news is that someone else bought it in good faith, so you can't have it back.

None. Sadly, those who interpret British law have long-ago lost the ability to determine what the Correct Decision is.

Dear Leanne,

Sorry to hear you've been a victim of crime, but the guy who now has your property wasn't the guy who stole it, so we can't be bothered to go and get it for you.

Lots of love,
The Police.

The best advice I can think of is, as soon as you get a lawyer, get him to offer to settle for the sum of "give me the puppy". According to the Woolf reforms, if he refuses, as soon as the legal battle is over and you win, the defendant has to pay your legal fees.

The people who interpret British law are judges. Chuck the problem at one of those and I think it'll all be hunky-dory.
