And when that happens, the Canadians will be there with their skates, sticks, and Molson beer, playing their hearts out like the hockey-crazy Canucks we (supposedly) are.

Neither did I, not the poem itself, though I've of course encountered most of the concepts as filtered through pop culture. Is it at all accessible reading?

Define "accessible" -- I do recall seeing a Large-Print-With-Pictures version at Barnes & Noble once, and I think it included annotations.

Short Form: The Ninth Circle of Hell is frozen over -- as the circle is reserved for Traitors of various ilks, the worse the treason, the further into the ice one is frozen (1st layer: Traitors to Kin; 2nd layer: Traitors to Political Powers; 3rd layer: Traitors to Guests; 4th layer: Traitors to Lords/Benefactors). In the [ahem] dead-center, of course, is the Ultimate Traitor -- Satan; his mouths (three in total) chew on three particularly infamous betrayers -- Brutus (one of Caesar's killers), Cassius (ditto), and Judas Iscariot (need we explain this one?).

Now that is a hilarious headline.

As for the thing about the Devil and ice... good one, Lothar.

Still... for those of you here who have read the actual book, Dante's Divine Comedy... which translation did you read, and which would you recommend? I'd like to read it myself.

Oh, and speaking of which, he and his work also made it into this article at Cracked.
