Finally, someone got it right and the French of all people. I applaud them. Now if only all other people would realize the same thing.

Vive la France! Not the full ban of the cult as we hoped, but still a big black mark against them. But that's not all against Scientology, a celebrity member has left and denounced it! Yeah, now all we need is a video of David Miscavige feeding a corpse into a woodchipper to turn up, and it'll be the best day ever!

While it is a good bit of news, I don't hold as high optimism as the rest of you. Tbh, I'm waiting for the world war between anonymous and scientology, and the scientologists send tom Cruise back in time to ensure Scientology reigns supreme, and anonymous sending in lolcats and Captain Picard to prevent the change in the time-space continuum.

Well, they've considered it a dangerous cult, officially, for a fair few years. Germany ranks it alongside organised crime outfits like the Mafia and Islamic fundamentalist organisations in terms of threat to national security.

The Continent gets it right.

Agreed. Recent topics about Scientology and the BNP are alright since everyone here's got a general consensus about them, but using it as a method to lead into conversations that pretty much always end up with people getting annoyed with each other isn't on.

Yay! Now to convict the Christian church!

You're gonna have to be more specific. There's like a million different Christian churches.

And yeah, glad that Europe seems to be seeing them for what they are, while Scientology pretty much owns the US government...

Oh okay, I'll change my opinion, sec - oh wait no I won't. Geez, calm down.

But seriously, why are official religions not considered sects again? Because they have had more followers? I'm honestly wondering.

...that is pretty silly. So I'm only allowed to state my opinion if it's congruent with the general consensus? I do get you want no trolling but I thought discussion is what forums are for.

You are allowed to have an opinion, even if it is idiotic.

That said, you are allowed to have it, just not bring it up on their boards since it will start a pointless arguement that goes no where and just leaves ALL of us pissed off.

Its like going to say... a baseball game just to Yell that baseball sucks.

not sure if that analogy worked.

Edit: Also, a discussion works only if both sides are willing to be open minded and possibly change their mind. You just stated that will not happen. Thus it would be a pointless debate, by your own admittance

A religion isn't considered a sect/cult when it doesn't demand money to be a part of. A religious organisation (church, mosque, general meeting place) accepts donations to keep it going, but it doesn't say 'If you pay X amount of cash, you can still stay here'.

He didn't ask you to change your opinion, he asked you to edit your post: you made his suggestion of troll-prevention into the exact opposite.

Discussion, yes: all types of discussion, no. Like I explained before and Dan just now, these threads always lead to unresolved arguments that are a pointless waste of time, such as this one.

Either way, you're off the mark, and I'm slightly pissed off I've lost time down at the print room to sort this out. I won't lock the thread since there's still viable conversation about the topic, but drop your 'argument', if you can even call it that.

I didn't need to be at the print room at an exact time, it's just nice to get there early and have the entire place to yourself. Turns out there's an Open Day at Uni today, so there were hundreds of prospective students walking round the building with their parents, which made it busy anyway.

(If you didn't exist, then there'd be nothing so sort out, so yes, I can blame you :D )

...just things. As soon as you strip away their meanings, then thats all they really are. Just things and nothing more. And if you're gonna give these things any kind of meaning again, they wont get any other value because they're someone's precious memory. Their value will be determined by the one thing everybody agrees on, and thats money. The rest is just a bunch of sentimental bullsh*t.
