Yup. Our president, who has barely been in office one year has won Alfred Nobel's peace prize.

Hate to discuss politics here, but as much as I like the guy, this is a pure negative for him in the minds of American voters.

It cements the idea that he's a darling of the elite, and disguises his work for the downtrodden.

I will never get over how in the same breath, the man's opponents can ridicule his work as a community organizer and then call him a champagne-sipping highbrow elitist.

The only "work" he's done for "the downtrodden" is to throw wads of cash at them, so
they don't feel compelled to *actually* do work.

This from the side who ridiculed his predecessor as a complete imbecile, while at the
same time claimed he was the mastermind behind some sort of Grand Religious
Conspiracy To Overthrow The US Government?

He wasn't some malevolent mastermind. That was Darth Cheney and friends.

Throwing money at the downtrodden is better than throwing money at the ones treading them down. And getting into pointless wars.

How dare the President be given an award celebrating peace! That's just unamerican!

What great thing has he done to deserve that prize? I can't really think of anything, but then again I've no idea about American politics?

Well, he certainly did change quite a lot of foreign policies that the US had...

...though I doubt in an of itself that that deserves a Nobel.

Anyone who actually belives that horseshit is already a lunatic anyway, and should be locked away for the safety of not only themselves, but everyone around them.

I think the biggest issue was that given the time nominations were accepted, one was put in for him when he'd been in office less than 2 weeks. Granted the actual decision was based on actions since then, but it still smells fishy.

Well, being 'first non lily-white president' is a pretty big achievement.

Though honestly, it could have waited until his term was or and we could review what he'd actually done.

not just that, his hands might be tied now, you can get a peace prize and then bombard your enemies in the same breath, hes going to have to pussyfoot round this, who knows maybe thats why they gave it him.

hell he hasnt even had time to do anything hes only just got in office. and now the democrats are turning into the new republicans, check this out for dirty politicking.

You had a Constitution left after the last guy?

Seriously, after the past eight years of living in fear of turning on the news to find that General Coo-Coo Bananas had decided to nuke everyone, it's going to take a lot to think this guy is worse.

Besides, I keep track of your politics for my personal amusement, and the Republicans don't seem to be taking their loss well and have spent the last year doing everything possible to make Obama continue Bush's policies and generally going insane, so I don't think accusations of siding with terrorists are that unfounded. To be honest, your far right is only semantics away from Al-Queda.

That's OK -- we do the same with yours.... >:)

Best political sticker I've seen so far: Bush 43 on one side, 0 on the other; caption
reads "SAME SHIT, DIFFERENT BAG." (There hasn't been an authentic conservative in
the US since Goldwater.)

Oh, and: Earth First!; PETA; and followers of Michael Moore -- extremist whackjobbery
is *NOT* confined to one side.... :P

Yes, but Earth First, PETA and Michael Moore are considered lunatics by most of the left-wing, not leaders.

regardless of how insanely biased his movies are, and how fake some setups are, he does have a few good points in each one...that and he can be funny sometimes, especially in his books.

I'm glad Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize, if only for the massive amounts of incredible butthurt that it has dealt to the tits who still call themselves "Republican" (note: all the SMART conservatives stopped identifying with the Repubs a year or so back).

But truth be told, while it's premature he has actually started important work in the field of peace. Actually TALKING to Iran instead of bombing them, working to reduce nuclear weapon stockpiles and take the thorns out of Russia's paw (a thorn that the last guy in charge put there, mind you) and going to Cairo to extend a diplomatic hand to Muslims the world over. In essence, he was awarded for not being Bush.

He hasn't earned it yet. Maybe he will in coming years, but not yet.

But hey, so long as Republicans are bitching and moaning and agreeing with the Taliban (hey, bringing together warring factions! Didn't Carter get the prize for that?), the resulting schadenfreude is more than enough for me to support the Committee's decision.

Oh, now I regret bringing this up.

But never mind that. I'd just like to see some damned common sense. I know it won't happen, but I'd like to dream.

This all reminds me of that Barenaked Ladies song, "Fun and Games".

Earth First? Hang on, let me do my Carnac! (Holds envelope up to head)

-Does no care about human life
-Have completely ridiculous ideas on the environment
-Are batshit insane

(Opens envelope) "What is Green Peace?!" Okay, who switched the envelopes?

And the birthers...Well, not much to say about them, is there.

I don't think sane environmentalists (surprisingly, that's most of them) have cared about Greenpeace for a long time. Even more so with PETA, who are pretty much unheard of outside the US besides occasional lunatic acts that make us shake our heads and go "Silly Yanks." We have the RSPCA who are sane and reasonable, and the WWF (the non-wrestling one) that actually runs positive ads.

Tract aside, I think Bush has considerably lowered everyone's standards for US presidents. As long as he at least sends the troops to the right country, most of us don't seem to be complaining.

'Actually TALKING to Iran instead of bombing them'

iran might need bombing soon. and a few people who may have obamas ear have made it clear they want to stop any strikes by isreal, pre emptive or retaliatory, by shooting their planes down over iraq. frankly i cant see how the world wouldnt be better without the islamic republic of iran but i guess thats just me. theyre they ones who are starting it, why protect a repressive theocratic dictatorship over the only first world nation in the middle east, and the only one who has been under siege since it was recognised as one.

and before you say anything isreal is a fully developed natioon and heres another thing saying how.

they also have an insane amount of nobel prizes.
