As an auto-racing fan, may I say: _Speed Racer_ was a fucking abomination. >:) Granted, _Death Race_ was *worse*. "30-millimeter machine guns", My Aching *ASS*. |

You have proven your opinion invalid, good sir. Your statement "as an auto-racing fan" means that, in reality, you hate joy. John Goodman wrestles a ninja: the BEST thing you've ever seen in the cinema, or the GREATEST thing you've ever seen in the cinema? Discuss. |

Speed Racer was about auto racing about as much as Mario Kart. Just roll with it. |

I have the sneaking suspicion he means driving around in a big circle, as opposed to ever-changing rules, ludicrous amounts of drama and hating on any team beginning with "Mc"... |

Grand-American Road Racing Assn., where road courses are concerned. (Even with the world economy in the shitter, they're pulling in as many cars in one class as the FIA-backed other series can manage in *all four* of its. The main problem GA is having with car count these days is a lack of *drivers* to run the beasts.) I am aware that _Speed Racer_ bears as much resemblance to reality as most anime; still, most of it was mind-blowingly stupid. As to John Goodman: I've seen funnier things in Holocaust documentaries. "Big fat fuck being loud" -- I can watch _Top Gear_ for that.... >:) |

Like most, auto racing sends me to sleep. It'd be much better if the cars were heavily armed with explosive weapons. Or driven by chimpanzees. Or both. Hell, I'd sponsor it. |

Eh -- different strokes. I find most stick-and-ball sports as dull as ditchwater; and to be fair, some forms of auto racing don't interest me (for ex., drag racing -- because it's too *short*). What Annoys me is the folks who watch stick-and-ball sports accusing me of following a sport full of brain-dead felons -- um, when was the last time you saw a news report about an auto racer arrested for dogfighting, or armed robbery, or.... That said: I do like the idea of putting convicted felons into old cars, and running a demolition derby; after two minutes, release the monster trucks.... >:) |

I am weird in that While I enjoyed playing sports and do have a great love of the automobile, watching either of them is just dull... yet movies and games based on them are enjoyable to me... go figure. |

Y'know, this is kind of out of the blue, but I just realised that it is possible that Mel Gibson has completely snapped, and the studio merely made up a film about a sock puppet in an attempt to hide it. |

Actually, that'd be a good idea for a comedy; the lead actor has gone completely insane and everyone scrambles to work his outrageous acts into the film to avoid losing credibility. At this rate it might be a documentary. |

That's been done more times than I can count -- usually it's covered-for by calling it "Method Acting" (more like "Methodone Acting"... :) ). Read the backstory on flicks like _Apocalypse Now_ for details. |

...okay, let's take it to another level; the lead actor has become a serial killer and the surviving cast and crew are scrambling to cover up his murders and not be the next victim in time for the premiere. Black comedy at its finest. |

_Shadow of the Vampire_, starring John Malkovich and Willem Dafoe. Plot: F. W. Murnau is making _Nosferatu_ -- and "Max Schrek" is an ACTUAL FUCKING VAMPIRE. Part of the theme is "Which of these men is *worse*?" |

The last vampire movie I watched by choice was _SotV_ -- and before that, a rendition of _Dracula_ starring Louis Jourdan (better known as "Kamal Khan" from _Octopussy_...), so you're right, I am rather out of the loop on more-recent vampiranalia. :) (I say "by choice" because in a university-level Modern Gothic Lit course, I was forced to watch _Interview with a Vampire_ -- this being the book where the teacher asked for comment, and I promptly responded with, "The bio in back says she started off writing hardcore porn. It shows." >:) |

The last vampire movie I actually watched was Vampire Hunter D. Which was actually pretty damn awesome. Anime vampires are stone cold badasses. |
