Methinks there lieth a problem.

You'd rather the highest office in the land was up for a truly public vote? The old boy's network is bent, but it isn't batshit insane.

A good point-either a corrupt bunch of public school boy buggerers OR the an individual given power based on public opinion. With our Public we'd probably have either PM Clarkson or PM 'That bloke who was in that thing, you know it was on after Casulaty, ooh he were dead good.'

I think I'd rather the one where I don't feel ill when voting-oh wait not on the menu.

No, but lamentably, it's the only system that comes close.

I think someone said: "Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the ones that have been tried."

At least in this one we have a RIGHT to complain.

Well, the Dems and Reps kinda changed places sometime around the 60's if I recall.
'Cause that part of the South sure as hell ain't known for going Democrat nowadays.

Not really -- the Democrats simply stopped being openly bigoted.

And the division in the US these days isn't Republican/Democrat, or Right/Left,
anymore -- it's Rural/Urban. Look up a map which shows the county-by-county
breakdown of which county went for which side; Urban areas, solid Democrat;
rural areas, solid Republican.

Guess which group controls the Food, the Water, and the Firepower? >:)

as a person raised and born in rural areas as a farmer, I would like to politely ask you to stick it where the sun don't shine.

Then I strongly suggest you dedicate time and effort into improving and eradicating the stereotype.

Whilst you aren't a moronic half-wit terrified the government is sucking the Jesus out of kids with socialism, there's a reason why that stereotype exists. Because enough people do, and those people are incredibly vocal about it.

Pretty much. But as Jeff would tell you, I'm hardly urban.

The basis of the rural stereotypes is not so much they are vocal as it is that is what the media will focus on. Can't make a news report on a person just going on about their day without making a fuss.

The media will focus on what is vocal. It's vocal because it's what the media focus on.

That's much easier said than done. You have to realize that there's not much we can do to change other people, especially those, say, half a nation away or on the complete opposite side of the world.

Take me for example. I'm Korean (well, technically Korean-American, as I live in Baltimore and am a citizen). Now, the biggest stereotype that us Koreans have in the Orient is that we're all hot-headed, self-centered bigots with a blinding hate for the Japanese. This sorta extends to Occidental stereotypes (but it's really more SAT scores and Starcraft here).

Now personally, I'm not like that (Or I wish to think I wasn't like that). I'm not the kind to get mad very often at all, and even so, it's a quiet, seething sort of mad. Yes, there are some aspects of Japan that annoy me, but that can be said about every nation out there. I try to break out of those stereotypes, as well as all the other bad stereotypes I've picked up along the way from my interests and choices, but as much as I want to go to Korea and give every single nationalist extremist there a punch in the kisser and a lecture on getting it straight, I can't. It'd be pointless and a monstrous waste of money. I can't change the minds of other people, and any attempts we make to scream over them will end up being quite nearly ignored.

We've had groups in Korea advocating for an end to the hostility between Japan and Korea for years. But, ahaha, what do you think the media would like better: A well planned but annual fair/parade featuring hundreds advocating for the end of social hostility between both nations, or the three nutjobs with decapitated animal corpses screaming, burning Japanese flags and cutting off their own fingers in front of their embassy?

Now if you'll excuse me, my orange glazed roast dog is getting cold. :rimshot

Y'know, this makes me glad that it's considered uncouth to be politically vocal in Australia. And voting is mandatory, so a minority of loudmouths are drowned out by the uninterested saner people.

Sadly enough, some of the urban parts are becoming worse than the rural. (I did not mean offence to anyone just don't really know how to word things that well.)

To me the one who is truly dangourous is the one who text to thier friends on thier cell phone while driving, I don't even see the logic thier minds gave them to do that.

Tell me about it. If they rode bikes more often (you Yanks seem to have an irrational hatred towards bikes, you fat bastards) they'd learn, you never try to text while riding a bike more than once...
