History is written by the victors

If we follow that line of logic, people who can't write must be destined to lose. Pack up your BOARDS OF RAGE guys, and go home.

Go write some letters: that actually gets stuff done.

Whereas here in Canada (or Alberta at least), such campaigns are a futile endeavour.

The political decisions of our government have been signed, and are in the process of being put into force long before the media, or John and Jane Canadian find out.

Trust me; I knew about the elimination of chiropractic coverage in AHC at least two months before the media did. It was already decided long before they leaked it to the media. Of course the letters started pouring in, but it was already a done deal, making it a waste of trees, and money spent in stamps (or in this electronic age, the cost of your internet bill).

Letter writing campaigns don't work, unless it's something so stupidly insignificant like the "spotted dick" thing Pix posted. The letters get read, but a form letter goes out to them all. And if you think that your local MP or the Minister of whatever Ministry is tickling your ire, or even the Premier is reading your letter, think again. It's the peons whose backs they break that write it, and a digital signature gets put on the letter sent out.

I'm not jaded in the least. Not at all.

...time to change jobs when the time/chance comes, methinks... :P

It's less about the name of the dessert, more about political correctness gone mad, as the term goes. It's on par with renaming the nursery rhyme to "Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep" because it's so racist, or telling someone to change their child's surname from Gaylord because it's upsetting the children in the class who might actually be gay.

I'd much prefer a petition or letter-writing to sort something out: when you look at protesters waving around their banners, I find that actually looking at enraged members of the public detracts a lot of sympathy from their cause.

But it never was because of that. It was "renamed" so they could teach small children colours. The screams of political correctness only came from the likes of the Heil.

Fair do's, but why not just use a different song that teaches them in the completely wrong order? XD

Either way, it also completely fucks up the rhythm.

Semi-relevant, what with mocking the higher-ups in the UK: this story is basically Obama pulling the awkward face. "Uh... Gordon? I don't want to be seen with you. Damages my reputation."

Out of all the insane directions Obama's reputation is going, I think hanging out with Brown ain't gonna affect it much.

I know, but I love how much it's further punching Gordon Brown further into the floor, leaving a large, Highlander-shaped crater.

I suppose. But it's no coincidence that right after slavery was abolished, most ex-slaves ended up in indentured servitude, if I have my US history right (a rare occurrence).

Not quite -- what the blacks ended up in was the "sharecropper" system, which is
better-known as "the company store approach". Give them *all* the "benefits" of
owning land -- including and especially the rear-echelon stuff, like food and meds
for the animals, transport costs, etc. Chances are, the target won't be able to make
ends meet. Then start making loans to the target, which he'll never be able to pay
off. In short order, he's a slave again -- all clean, clear, and legal.

The real bitch was: The Southern Ruling Class after the ACW didn't much give a shit
*what* skin color the sharecroppers were -- if you were Poor, you were Fucked.

And seeing how the Democrats operate now, clearly nothing has changed there.... >:|

And wave in David Cameron? I don't know if that makes much difference to be quite honest as he's just as bad.

A change is as good as a rest, I suppose.

Still, would be nice to have a Prime Minister-elect.

Well, the Dems and Reps kinda changed places sometime around the 60's if I recall.

'Cause that part of the South sure as hell ain't known for going Democrat nowadays.

We do. Our political system works wherein we vote for the party we want in power, and they elect a leader as PM.

Y'know, some countries like Russia and France have a system where they vote seperately for both a President and a Prime Minister. As opposed, of course, to a Monarch and Prime Minister (UK, Australia) or just a single President (US). I wonder how well that works. Vladimir Putin seems to have abused it to remain in power...

Yes but no one actually voted for Gordon. He was crowned and then continued to lead us into the skidmark filled underwear of the present.

Why do people keep saying that? No-one's ever voted for a PM ever. Everyone votes for their local MP, and the MPs vote their boss. Gordon 'inherited' Blair's position, but if the majority of the Labour Party MPs didn't like it, they would have veto'd or something.

No-one voted for Tony, either. Or John before him. Or Maggie before him. Our system doesn't work that way.

Methinks there lieth a problem. We give the power to launch nukes, invade countries and determine our laws to someone we don't choose. Bit funny.

And Razzie-that slurping sound you hear? That's the entire labour party giving each other BJ's. That's how it works. Like Ed Balls was REALLY going to stand against Gordon.
No no-the old boys, make money club still exists.

The career politician-possibly the lowest form of life.
