http://www.economist.com/world/unitedstate...ory_id=14258768 "In his book “Voodoo Histories: The Role of the Conspiracy Theory in Shaping Modern History”, David Aaronovitch argues that conspiratorial fantasy can have dangerous real-world consequences. Hitler read and believed The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, a bogus account of a global Jewish conspiracy. So did the founders of Hamas. Timothy McVeigh killed 168 people with a bomb in Oklahoma in 1995 because he thought the federal government was hatching various dastardly plots." Seeing as how any mention of any topic even *remotely* political touches off the sort of firestorm which makes folks living in Hamburg, Dresden, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki shit themselves out of simple nervousness.... :P "And that's all I have to say about that." |

Eh, lunatics will latch on to whatever theory is the most convenient for them, or make up their own. Crazies are crazies and something always sets them off sooner or later. That said, I'm pretty sure there's going to be an act of conspiracy-provoked major violence in the US before the year is out, so I guess you have a point. |

So...does this count as a conspiracy theory in itself? And does a conspiracy about conspiracy theories create inverse conspiracies? |

To be honest, the world's gone to the point anything can be considered a conspiracy theory. A government leader pleaded guilty to embezzlement, conspiracy theory. The lack of response on new jobs, conspiracy theory. The last bog roll used up so quickly, Conspracy theory! |

Depends on whether or not it can be proven beyond reasonably doubt. In this case, while there's been no actual formal testing of it, it does tend to fit the facts available. The one I get a lot of, with my connection to the US space industry, is the "faked Moon Landing" idiots -- the ones who figure "if we can't do it *now*, there's no way we could have done it *then*". This is why I carry a Large Mallet Labeled "OFF".... >:) "We never landed on the Moon!" [*THWACK*!] "OFF!" "Tupac was assassinated!" [*THWACK*!] "OFF!" "Please, sir, spare some change...." [*THWACK*!] "OFF!" [w/ apologies to Richard Hammond] |

Chris Rock said it best: "Everyone says 'Tupac assassinated', 'Biggie Smalls assassinated'. Martin Luther King was assassinated, Malcolm X was assassinated -- them two n*****s was shot! Tupac was a great rapper -- school will still be open on his birthday." |
