Ok... so, as some people know, I'm starting to play games on Steam. TF2, Portal and Half-Life 2 are the ones so far.

Anyway, my NVidia 7200LE just doesn't cut it when it comes to graphics. It's a fairly sad, old video card now. So, Pix, the wonderful guy that he is, helped me to go through the innards of my computer via web cam on Skype. Although I have to admit that I'm a n00b, who has a problem with defining "the back of the computer". I was looking at the side of the computer, where the motherboard is. "Now show me the back. No LG, the back where you plug things in." *face palm* At least he didn't capture my happy dance...

Anyway, he found me this card at the very top, which should be here around Monday or Tuesday, depending on if they bring it to my office building or not.

So, I'm going to be wiping my computer (after backing everything up, of course), and installing it, after I get it.

So, that's a huge BOOYAH to getting a better Video card.

Now, this is the cool part: Today I called to talk to my ISP provider in regards to something I saw on their Internet site. On one page, they were saying that their High Speed (which I have) is between 1.5 and 6.0 Mbps. I do the speed test that Virus showed me, and it was only at 2.5 on average. Weird. I look on another page, and thy said that their High Speed was only 1.5-3.0 Mbps.

Ok, that's just false advertising, I'm thinking. So I call them up for the explanation. "Oh, we're changing our site, so some information is inaccurate," he says. "Ok, that's fine, that makes sense," I say. "But," he continues, "I can get you a better deal."

My well thought-out, intelligent reply? "Huh?"

So, here's what he was able to give me:

-took off the lock on my long distance, and gave me $0.04 per minute for it, just in case my Internet goes down and I need to call someone long-distance. This is any time of day or night, no monthly fee. (I use Skype as it only costs $0.02 per minute to call landlines anywhere in the world.)
-call display for free
-upgraded my Internet to the 6.0Mbps
-sending me a new wireless modem as the original one they sent me is over three years old (if not older)
-reduced my bill from $65.00 per month to about $55.00.

"I called to enquire about a discrepancy on your website, and I got one hell of a deal," I said to the agent. "You ROCK!!"

Did I luck out or what? :D

[It's a joke, Dan]

Did you later go to the ATM Machine and type in your PIN Number?

[Note: I hold no responsibility if the card doesn't work. :P ]

ISP stands for Internet Service Provider: saying "ISP provider" is technically saying "Internet service provider provider". Just as people say 'ATM Machine' (Automated Teller Machine Machine) and 'PIN Number' (Personal Identification Number Number), you added another example to the list of RAS Syndrome symptoms (the term 'RAS Syndrome' playfully drawing humour from itself).

Oh.

My.

God.

*epic multiple forehead-smacking face palms*

I completely forgot about that... I should have written it as ISP company... no, it's still Internet Service Provider Company...

There's still no way around it, is there, except to say "...call my ISP and..."

I need to watch for that... How embarrassing... :^_^:

Yay, I'm a moron! :D I'm a happy moron! :P

Well, I installed the card with no problems. It was a lot easier than I would have ever imagined! Although... I never new that my old card had a fan underneath. It was caked with dust! >_< Time to buy stock in the canned compressed air company, methinks...

Went very briefly into Portal to check it out. At the time, the game had kept all of my old settings. I set my monitor to LCD (which it is), so it defaults to the highest settings possible.

I'm still picking out carpet hairs from my mouth when my jaw dropped... What a HUGE difference! :D

And I received my new modem today too. Nice and sexy! But... why call it a "wireless" modem when you have to plug three separate wires in...? [/rhetorical question asked in a goofy voice]

Welcome to the world of modern high graphic gaming. Use the Half Life 2 games as a good benchmark on the graphics since you own Orange Box.

You ain't a graphics whore til you can run Crysis without lag.

Incidentally, that game best played like the spiritual successor to Super Mario Bros 2.

But no, I only mention them given what games she has on her Steam List. TF2 isnt a high benchmark on its own. But HL2: Ep 2 is used a bit for checking. IT may not be today's Crysis but it still holds out on its own.

So STFU :3

The Source engine (whether Half Life 2 from 2004, or HL2:Episode 2 from 2007) isn't particularly demanding.

If you need to benchmark graphics, just use 3DMark06. But I seriously doubt LG would either need nor care to benchmark.

the Hl2 games are not high system demanding... that is why I like Valve.. they make great games without forcing me to upgrade every two months.

It is when you add the FakeFactory Cinematic Mod v9.5. You need a rig capable of playing Crysis at max to play HL2 with this texture mod on. But oh so worth it.
