Psychologists are pissed off; all because of Wikipedia?

This is interesting: the ink blot tests are now potentially invalid, thanks to the posting of the Rorschach (blot) test images on Wikipedia.

Now one question is, are these images free for all and in the public domain, or are they only for psychologists to use?

Or is this test still valid, considering it was created in 1921 when the study of psychological problems was still in its infancy and very naive?

Here is the Wikipedia page. What's your take on it?

Nice article on it here.

To be fair, couldn't you cheat on a lot more psychological tests, by saying something completely stereotypical of the moment? Much like Rorschach does in Watchmen when he undergoes the test? And can't it be easy enough to make more inkblots, and prepare some more answers on a per-psychologist basis?

Even if you knew, you could just do it for the lulz and just quote from Armageddon.

"A woman's breasts"
"A big womans breasts"
"A young woman...with nice breasts."
"....this one looks like you with breasts."

Guess what, psychologists? A billion more people just saw the blots on Wikipedia because of this story. Way to go.

Far as I know, the Rorscach test is pretty much obsolete anyway.

Or it could be like "Spaced":

"Guns."
"Guts."
"Guns and guts."
"Butterfly!" ........."A butterfly with guns!"

"Welcome back to the TA, Sargent Watts."

Or something to that effect.

And thanks for the link to the New York Times article, Pix. I like this part the best:

Quote:

While the plates have appeared on other Web sites, it was not until they showed up on the popular Wikipedia site that psychologists became concerned.

That's somewhat hypocritical. It's ok for me to post these on my own website, but as soon as they're on a world-wide database, that's when the problems start?

I don't know. I still think that the tests are archaic. They are over 90 years old; I'm not sure how they can still be relevant. I guess it's because I know nothing of psychology, and can't see or understand how there could be a correlation between an image that I'm seeing, and my mental state.

But then, I'm not known for my intelligence... I'd probably fail even the blot tests! :P

I thought this would be something to do with Scientology.

And to be fair, this IS kind of a disaster. It's like if... uh... erm...

...KFC's Secret Recipe got posted on Wikipedia?

I always considered it a bit mental to see anything but "blobs of ink on a paper" for those sheets.

Meh, I don't see how anyone could be interested in whether they're out or not since no one has taken the Rorschach test seriously for years.

But then, isn't the whole point of it that it's a subjective test, ergo THERE ARE NO ANSWERS?

If it's that big a problem, it's not exactly hard for them to just make some new ones!

I always just made shit up to screw with the psychologists.

...maybe that explains why I was prescribed for anti-psychotics.
