Here.

An online, albeit expensive directory service. May not be your cup of tea, but more importantly, you might not want your number on it. It's pretty easy to become ex directory, link is at the top of the page.

Huh... I didn't know that they're doing those now. Whoo! More access to telemarketers! [/sarcasm]

Good thing I don't have a mobile (cell) phone of my own.

The last text I got was 16th June (Feldoon's don't count), so I'd personally welcome more calls or texts. Anyone want my number for any reason? Just ask, make my life a bit more interesting.

Well you'll need to get one when we're living together :P Yay, you'll have somebody you actually need to be in contact with! A couple of times during my April visit, a mobile would have been handy: like when we missed each other that day you were late out from work.

My number's not coming up either. Good. How do you suppose they're being added? It seems odd that there's an option to opt-out, when I would've thought you'd have needed to opt-in for them to list you in the first place.

"Hello, Mister Eeewuns? I'm calling from mumblemumble with a survey about stupid bullshit nobody cares aboutquestiononehowdoyoupayforyour-" "I'm not interested" "It'll only take a minute" "Click."

Anybody can get any of your details for any purpose and you can't do anything about it.

Hell, I called myself "Pirate Man" on a forum for a while, and occasionally still get post for "Mr. P Man," starting "Dear Pirate."

WINNER.
Of life. And everything.
It is a bit of an odd site as none of my mates have come up. And some of them are bombarded by wank line spam.

I've had the same mobile number for... a good ten years now, I think (blimey, that long?) And the only spam calls and texts I ever got were from my network provider asking if I wanted a monthly plan. Of course now I've jumped ship from that network and taken my number with me, they might sell my details on out of spite, so who knows?

Yes but knowing my friends they were calling those lines and now moan about the spam.
I too only get crap from my service provider about not topping up enough.
That's cause I despise phones, Mr big faceless corporation.

There were two very good reasons for those.

Both of them involved me being bored at work in charge of what can be classified as heavy machinery.

Hon...that's called ringing me at work. :D I don't think that we're going to need me getting one, because it would be a complete waste of money. I'd lose 20 out of the 30 minutes I put on the thing because I would forget that I have it.

And no, my phone provider is to freaking expensive to go on their plans, Rogers and Fido are evil, and the others are just off-shoots of the above. :P

Besides, we don't drive, and what are the odds of going grocery shopping alone?

Hm, oh yeah, Canada has that silly thing where prepaid funds in your balance expire after a certain time. See over here, I leave funds in my account for months, and they never expire, so it's really simple to use my phone just a few times a month and not worry. Hell, in that case, I think I'll ditch my mobile too when I move :P

I hate that... and what's worse is canadian sim cards DON'T work in british phones, they KNEW this and still told me Yes it'd work took my money and faffed around "Trying to fix it" until the credit I had on it expired, they put it back on but my phone still does not work.. the only one I got is my works phone which sucks.

And whats with the long distance charge for calling THE NEXT TOWN to call someone in Calgary (which is ONLY a 45 min drive from here) they call it long distance?

From what I've read, it depends on your phone, and which company's sim you use. IIRC your phone needs to be "quad-band GSM". And then you need to choose a network which supports GSM, because not all of them do.

And some of them piggyback each other. Rogers and Fido are the same company, or at least they're in a partnership. So sometimes a Fido customer will be using the Rogers network and vice versa depending on which company's ...cloud...pocket...airspace... they're in. Sorry, technical terms escape me.

We Canadians just have to be dumb about it is all. As for long distance? All I can do is shrug. As of June last year, every call in Alberta is technically "long distance" now. To do a local call, everyone has to dial the area code, then the seven-digit number. For outside of "local" we have to add the "1" as usual. And "local" varies from town to town, region to region.

What's completely retarded in my opinion though is the use of the new area code. Ok, so 780 is for anything above Red Deer, and 403 is for anything below. Fine. But the 519? Why couldn't they have been smart and carved Alberta into another dialing zone, rather than making it a PROVINCE WIDE AREA CODE?
