So, two of my favorite bands that are, unfortunately, terribly underplayed. Has anyone heard of these guys? If you have, say where at, and if you like them or not.

If you haven't, god help yo- I mean, look them up on YouTube. They're pretty good. Here's two sample songs for you.

Clutch - The Mob Goes Wild

Monster Magnet - 4-Way Diablo

I put each of those on, and found my concentration drifting to other things. Suddenly everything else seemed more important than listening to the song: checking redundant emails, reading Steam updates, Googling how to solder headphones. Sorry, but it just couldn't hold my attention.

Then again, this is coming from a frequent Mike Oldfield listener.

It's a shame the rest of Music of the Spheres isn't up to scratch much. I liked his older stuff a lot more, but it's an all round okay score.

As far as upcoming bands go, watch for White Lies. Easily one of the best bands I've heard in ages.

Also, logo's win.

I went to see White Lies on the NME tour and thought they were easily the worst band on the set. They weren't bad, per se, they were just a bit dull to me. Every other band on the set had their own sound. (well, apart from Glasvegas, but they had the whole stadium sound bit down to make up for it) I thought Friendly Fires were a lot more innovative: White Lies sounded more like a support act than a headline band to me. They just filed themselves into the part of my brain that contains very other modern indie band of the last 5 or so years. Not bad, fun to listen to on occasion, but nothing special.

But then, I haven't really listened to the album that much, and I was drifting out of my moody-indie phase at that point, so I'm biased. I'm more of a Super Furry Animals person at the moment: give me a month or two and I might drift back to a mindset where I can appreciate White Lies.

Don't get me wrong, I could see why White Lies could appeal. They weren't a bad band, just not my thing. Bands like Pigeon Detectives, on the other hand, are objectively bad, and their records - and possibly the band themselves, or at least the singer - should be piled into a landfill immediately, so says I.

EDIT: Oh, I've got to second Pix on his first Oldfield link. First time I've heard it and I'm already hooked.

I think for me they're just replacing the fact I haven't listened to any of The Bravery since their first album. Very similar styles.

Good sir, you just saved my thread from being hijacked. I salute you.

Anyways, yeah, Robot Hive/Exodus is one of their best albums, although I'm more a fan of Blast Tyrant. Good to know I'm not the only one who's ever heard of these guys. So, how did you hear about these bands originally? And has your taste in their music changed over time? I remember I couldn't stand Clutch before, but then I gradually started liking them, since my dad kept playing a mix CD of them in the hot car, and I needed something to distract me from teh temperaturez. Years ago... ah, horrible memories of long, boring summers. EXACTLY LIKE THIS ONE. RAAAAAAGE.

Anyway, I'm starting to ramble. I'mma go play OC now. Kthxbai.

Heard of them via Metal Hammer Magazine.
Saw Powertrippin' on MTV2 (Y'know when there was GOOD music on there)
Saw video Burnin' beard on some DVD.

I've always listened to Metal and Rock since in utero. My father was a biker and listened to everything from the Ramones to Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, AC/DC etc.
The Blues-y rock of Clutch appeals cause I'm not always in the mood for " Necrophilliac" by Slayer. Monster Magnet-well my mate Steve's big into sleaze rock and I sort like them via osmosis.
