Repent; the end is extremely fucking nigh. I don't know what's worse; the fact that one of the worst movies of all time based on some of the worst books of all time won so many awards, or the pure blithering retardation that can be glimpsed on the comments pages... It's no wonder I've long believed awards ceremonies (especially those decided by public vote) to be nothing but a complete crock; good movies like Wall-E get snubbed while shit like this scoops all the accolades. I know I shouldn't care what a bunch of teenage twits thinks is a quality product, but... My gods, people are stupid. |

It's the MTV movie awards. It's based on the votes of people who watch MTV. Who do you think watches MTV? Not people who are going to seriously appreciate genius like WALL-E. That said, I continue to insist that this series gets too much shit. Yes, it's poorly written, and yes, it inspires preteen adoration of the truly moronic variety. And no, the film doesn't deserve any awards (Jesus). But I don't judge things by their fans, and the story itself is honestly somewhat entertaining. If J. K. Rowling had taken the same premise and vague plot, it could have been actually good. Attempting to even backhandedly defend this series in any internet forum is pretty much like nailing yourself to the firing-range targets. But here's an amusing thing. The trailer for the second film is out, and all the fans are going gaga over everything except the wolf. And I say the trailer is boring emo shit except for the wolf. So there. Screw you, series fans, for not appreciating the only thing I really like about it. |

Normally I'd agree, but in the case of Twilight I threw any idea of cutting the series some slack out of the window when I read a number of horror stories on the net about people being stalked, harrassed, physically attacked and even almost murdered just because they said they don't like Twilight. I've never even heard of this happening from any other fanbase, so either my knowledge of the world is limited or this series inspires insanity in its fans. So yeah; this series is full of shit, its fans should be locked up, and its creator can go die in a fire for not even attempting to dissuade fans from doing this kind of shit. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating there, but I really was appalled when I read those accounts. |

Oh gods no. It would have been about three thousand pages thicker, barely coherent and boring as shit. Then again I haven't read any of the Twilight novels so it may already be this. |

It's an award ceremony. Of course anything halfway good will lose. As for Twilight, I don't care for that school of vampire fiction. Or, indeed, any vampire fiction. I like my vampires like I like my coffee. As an antagonist. |

I pity you. There's a very good reason Rowling is considered a genius of young-adult literature while Meyer is considered a scourge. One can actually write. That said, if you don't want any boldness, intellectual depth, or complexity to your stories, you'd probably love Twilight. It's pure fluff that I burned through in two hours just to find out what happened. Then I gave it back and don't think about it except when I have to tell people, no, it is not the best or worst thing ever written, it's just purely disposable. (And, I wish I could say, harmless, but apparently not? God damn super-fans anyway.) EDIT: P.S., the true highlight of the night apparently had nothing to do with emo vampires. |

Okay, I know nothing about Twilight and am not interested in it. However as for awards being stupid and going out to people who really don't deserve them... oh hell yeah, I know what you're talking about. Case in point: Instead of giving the Nobel Peace Prize to this old women who saved many children during the Holocaust, it instead goes to Al Gore for his work about global warming with An Inconvenient Truth; this is truly a travesty, seeing as (A.) global warming is a hoax, as demonstrated by record cold weather in recent years, and (B.) this is science stuff, which has almost nothing to do with peace in the world. (I forget the woman's name, but she passed away not too long ago.) I'd also like to name some more recent Peace Prize recipients who don't deserve it and why not, but then we'd all be neck-deep, if not deeper, in political stuff and I don't want to bring that down here; however, if anyone would like to ask me outside these forums, then I say go for it. Even back in elementary school, I knew that awards could be rigged, meaningless, and given out unfairly; case in point, these stupid "Student Behavior Rewards" or whatever the hell they were called, which sometimes even went to students who were sent home early or suspended from school the very day they got them. |

I could go into the grand silliness of this (yes, Virginia, every single climate scientist in the world is involved in a grand scheme to screw you out of your gas-guzzler, but hey, good thing you and your favorite knuckle-dragging pundit know better; have you heard that Satan planted the dinosaur bones, too?) But yes, for the sake of avoiding an idiotic forum argument in a topic about something else entirely, I'll agree that Henry Kissinger and Yasser Arafat probably didn't deserve Nobel Prizes, Mickey Rourke should have won Best Actor over Sean Penn, and awards in general can be tripe. (But a lot more tripe when it's the public--particularly the pre-teen public--voting for them.) |

I don't. Because I like good books. Don't get me wrong: I'm not debasing Rowling's writing without merit. I have actually read the Harry Potter books. I just found them unnecessarily verbose, jagged in their pacing and in dire need of editing. I thought the first few were good example of children's books. It was when she got big and her editors apparently got slack that it became a horrendous, boring web of pointless stupidity. And that epilogue at the end of book 7. Eurgh. In regards to Quillian's statements on Gore: He invented the Internet. He deserves whatever he wants. |

I'll give you that one point, but I forgave it for the sheer audacity of her killing half of her main characters (and a few minor ones for good measure) in the final battle. Meyer, on the other hand--spoiler alert--gives every single protagonist, and even most of the antagonists, their hearts' desire of a happy ending. The whole series consists of "there's gonna be a fight... oh, they're gonna fight, they're totally gonna fight now," and they never, ever, ever do. It's like a kiddie treatise on diplomacy. (However, I do have to admit, I'm looking forward to seeing Dakota Fanning as a psychotic, sadistic little bitch-vampire who tortures the heroes.) |

I think the HP epilogue was just a middle finger to fanfic authors. That's always fun. And the final battle was my favourite part of the entire series, despite all the deaths. I mean, that is gonna make an AWESOME movie. |

THe epilogue did feel slghtly tacked on I have to admit, but given what else has happened in the novel, it did work so I'm fine with it as a conclusion to an enjoyable series. Now if they finish movie 6 and 7a/7b I'll be happy. |

Well, there is the "Twilight Sucks" forum. While most of it is completely unbacked by evidence (most of the attempted murder stuff, and the story of a kid having acid thrown in his face during science class), there's at least two with evidence: 1) Twilight Fans attempting to get a book store employee fired for "harassment" for not thinking Twilight was great (until video evidence showed the boss it was the Twilight fans who were harassing him, not the other way around). 2) Man's foot stomped hard enough that it broke / dislocated some bones. Had a picture of his cast (with his name as well as the forum's written on it) to back it up. So while I can't really say the "attempted murder" things are true, there have been cases of assault and attempts to get people fired for not loving Twilight. Not even amongst Trekkies / Warsies have I seen such rivalry (but then, I'm not old enough to have seen Trekkie / Warsie fights after Episodes 4-6 and TNG). And when your fandom is known to be more rabid than Trekkies, that's not a good sign. |

Let's face it: the average IQ of those that watch MTV is that of a cucumber. They only watch for about 15-20 minutes at a time anyway, because they have TV-induced ADD from all of the changes in programming every couple of minutes. And people complained that Sesame Street did that, HA!! Anyway, they voted for crap, because that's all they surround themselves with. A lot of the main-stream MTV teens don't have the maturity and good taste that most of us here on the forum have. They only love the movie because the marketing made them. My two pennies. |
