Saw it last night. Gotta say-I'm impressed. They could have turned it into a complete Hollywood abortion but they managed to stay damn close to the original. Acting wise it was good but I felt Manhattans voice sounded a bit to whiny. Also although Matthew Goods (Ozymandias) did well phsyically he seemed wrong. Too young too 'Hollywood good looking'. Ozy was more in the Neo-Classical Greek style of attractive. Gotta agree with Asperger on the enforced morality. As brutal as rape scene was it was quite different from the book. Also Rorschach's killing of the child killer was, although more graphic, less horrifying than the books. Also felt the Comedian's delivery of a couple of lines was a bit too...cautious? He was always so sure of himself in his beliefs in the comic, yet on screen seemed..reserved would be the word I guess. Oh yes and Rorscach never ate a single sugar cube-what's up with that? <end/Whiny nerd bitching.> All in all though, bloody good and I eagerly await the special ed DVD. |

Hey, fans of the book were going to complain no matter WHAT they did, they just as well made a good movie that sticks as close to the book as it can. Plus, I really don't think something like Watchmen has ever made it to the big screen before- I think it made a lot of people question the concept of superheroes. Let's hope it doesn't make the Dark Age repeat itself though... Let's face it people, NOBODY would have bought "she was asking for it" in this day and age. Probably including me. And as for the superhuman actions, I liked them, and it made the concept of these otherwise ordinary people surviving as superheroes a little more believable, through my twisted logic. As for the acting, I've never been able to tell the difference between good and bad acting, which makes movies much more enjoyable for me. The music was a bit hit-and-miss, but when it hit it hit spot on. The credits were goddamn loud though. Saturday Morning Watchmen is about five times funnier now, and I bet it'll jump to ten times funnier once I read the book. Yes, I saw the movie before reading it, sue me, at least I'm getting a different point of view. |

i thought the sex scenes were a bit much, especially the one in archie. movies like the watchmen are things you feel safe listening to really loud when your parents are in the next room, porn isnt...its a very awkward situation to be in, with all those grunts and groans going through the wall lol. |

This is my review/thaughts on the film: I personaly loved thes film! It is beutifully shot with a very fitting soundtrack and a deap storyline that doesn't dumb down the comics content and keeps all the core character development relativly in tact. Sure, some of the acting was a bit wooden and there were a number of sub plots left out, but I feel that this didn't realy majorly hinder the enjoyment of the movie. After all, if they had kept the sub plots in it would have been far too long and far too complicated, alienating the casual audiance who might not be fammiliar with the source material. I think some critics and fans realy nit picking a bit much with minor details in the film. The slow-mo shots weren't over used and when they were used, they didn't interfear with the pace of the film at all. Plus I hardly thing Dr.Mahattens penis being shown occasionaly realy is much a point for critisism! I mean, he's a giant blue guy who can manipulate matter it's self and teleport people to glass watch structures on mars. Surley you'd be a little pre ocupied with OTHER things rather than just his dick? Besides, he was in character and acted realy well despite some minor changes. The action scenes too in my opinion helped give some scenes more spice to prevent the film becoming too dull for casual audiances. As a final plus, this movie was very well paced so it didn't feel overly long despite being a 2 and 3/4 hour film! In the end, this is a smart film that puts a new twist on superheroes, like the comic did. Out of 20, I would give this 9/10 for quality. Some minor flaws and some character development could have been shown better, but no real major problems that hinder the overall plot. I give it 5/10 for audiance reachability. In my opinion, alot of hardcore fans are going to nitpick badly, especialy at the ending (which in my opinion wasn't that big a change) and while this film should be reachable to a casual aduaince, those wanting a big superhero action romp will be very disapointed. This film didn't have great marketing with the trailer, focusing more on the action sequances then giving much plot indication. Plus the less inteligent of folks might very well find it hard to fallow. So Overall, it gets 14/20. One of the best films so far this year, and proving that Zack Snyder can handel more complex plots rather than just action orientated films. I Highly recomend it as this isn't the kind of quality film we get every day! |

I've gone over my more in-depth thoughts and nitpicks, but really all I can say is to sum it up in a three-word review; it is okay. By the way, I imported a copy of the Watchmen Motion Comic on DVD. It works like a book-on-tape, only with slightly-animated versions of the comic's panels used as well (which is better than what I was expecting, anyway). It's disconcerting that every single character (even the women and children) is voiced by the same guy, but it's worth a look. |

Actually, I wonder if Doc Manhattan will help make nudity more acceptable in movies once people realise it's not entirely associated with sex. Doubt it. Oh jeez, that parody is priceless. It should come on the DVD. |

Just got back from seeing it, and I can sum up the entire experience with two words - Diet Watchmen. It's a fairly close adaptation (a little too close in a way, by sticking so closely to the events in the comic it feels very episodic with the ends and structure of the individual issues), ticks most of the boxes, but it lacks a lot of the depth by missing out a lot of the little moments and simplifying some things. One good example is Laurie's smoking, that's gone from the comic, which not only means that we loose the thing of her constantly saying she's quitting and then puffing away again, a very human touch, but also it means the part where acidentally fired Archie's flamethrowers makes her look more than a bit of an idiot pushing random buttons when in the comic she was though it was the lighter, (oh, and while on the subject of Laurie, the actress playing her was only cast for how she looked in the outfit wasn't she, 'cos she could barely act for toffee). Also, I agree with a lot that has been said here already, like the characters being a bit too superhuman (Rorshach gets some almost wire-fu moments in there), and some of the morally ambiguous scenes have been made a lot more black and white. One really distracting thing for me - Richard Nixon's nose, his make-up job looked like a cheap Hallloween mask! One little addition I did like though, the War Room we see Nixon in is pretty much exactly like the one from Dr. Strangelove, that was a nice touch. Overall, it definitely wasn't bad, but not as good as the comic, though it could have been done a hell of a lot worse, and I'm holding off final judgement till I see the full director's cut. Oh yeah, and I'm also disappointed this didn't end up in there either. |

I went to see the first screening in my area, the midnight premier. Now I've never read the comic, skimmed yes, but not read. I've heard a lot about it, albeit only when the previews came out. I never even knew what Watchmen was, and in truth, believed it to be a full Hollywood original when the previews came out. I went on a whim, no less. I enjoyed the movie. I enjoyed it a great deal. The end made me a little aggravated, but after seeing what the original comic had, I'm actually glad that it was changed. Though I despise Manhattan, as a character. "I have unlimited power, and the ability to do whatever I want to, but my life sucks." It's hard to feel sympathy for a character that can literally blow up everyone if he wanted to. Even harder when everyone in the world started stressing out over his drama-filled exit. Really, Gary-Stu much? |

You might appreciate the character of Dr Manhattan more if you look at him as representing/parodying near-godlike characters like Superman (or the whole concept of a Gary Stu), and how removed from humanity they really are, to the point where humans are barely interesting ants to him, and he starts treating them as such. |

I don't think so. You might be confused on a few things but you'd probably get the gist of it. Do try to get the comic afterward though. Should be easy to find nowadays with the marketing push. |
