It's that time of year again...

1. My family
For them: A book for my father (Vorpal Blade by John Ringo and Travis S. Taylor), a book for my mother (Look Me in the Eye by John Elder Robison), and nothing for my brother (he didn't ask for anything).
For me: The soundtracks to the movies The Road to El Dorado and Π.

2. My girlfriend K.
For her: The movie Mystery Men on DVD.
For me: The Halo 3 music soundtrack.

3. My friend E.
For him: All three volumes of the Fooly Cooly music soundtrack (a combined graduation/birthday/Christmas gift).
For me: The book The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu, translated by Edward G. Seidensticker.

4. My friend J.
For him: The anime movie Garzey's Wing on DVD (it's terrible, but he wanted a copy so he could mock the hell out of it, so I obliged).
For me: The Best of Moody Blues on CD.

5. My friend W.
For him: The first 20 or so episodes of that animated series C.O.P.S. on DVD.
For me: The movie 300 on DVD.

6. My friend C.
For her: The book Caucasia by Danzy Senna and a Sopranos-themed book entitled The Tao of BADA-BING! (a combined graduation/Christmas gift).
For me: The STAR WARS novel Allegiance by Timothy Zahn in paperback.

Also, my boss at work unexpectedly gave me $25, so I thanked her generosity by copying some music CDs for her.

Glossing over the fact that you've clearly opened all your presents before Christmas, you do mean your friend Captain W, right? You got me a DVD of C.O.P.S., right?
Right?

Microsoft.
For me: All my Xbox 360 saves deleted because of the advice from customer support and no doubt a glitch or two.
For them: Shit in the mail and a double finger.

(P.S. No, I didn't select "delete profile and all items" before anyone starts.)

I'm going for "Quillian's Winterfest is earlier than Christmas".

Whereas I come from a more traditional family (I reckon the majority is Christian, being as the only people I can actively state I've seen recently for Christmases are 9/10, but I've never gone asking) thus I can't play Metroid Prime 3 until tomorrow. After my sister comes back from work. Bollocks.

Since my parents and such forgoed the idea of presents, I got myself Ace Combat 6 for 360.

As for a few friends though, we all agreed to draw something for each, being digital artists and considering we all met on an art gallery site.

I'm Jewish, so I celebrate Chanukah.

(Interestingly, gift-giving has nothing to do with Chanukah, at least not originally... but I guess that's cross-cultural exchange for you.)

I doubt the celebratory date for the birth of the king of the Jews initially had anything to do with gift exchange either.

From Me: Most relatives got books they were wanting. My Girlfriend got The divine Comedy by Dante, some chocolates and a solid silver locket.

I myself got cash, 12 Fine Argyll steaks, 12 bottles of Loch Fyne Ale, A new Mp3 player, Bill Hicks-Sane Man on DVD and a Gears of War zippo.

Not bad at all for a hate filled misanthrope.

I doubt it likewise.

If memory serves me correctly, then the origins of Santa Claus, a.ka. St. Nicholas, go as far back as the 7th or 8th century A.D., when some Greek saint would leave little gifts of fruit and such in children's shoes. Something like that...

Oh, and I forgot... I also gave a copy of The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie to my Muslim professor from Turkey. You should have seen the way her face lit up with excitement, because she had been looking forward to reading it.

Heh, look at all those typos. Was I really that drunk that night? XD

My brother got me Stuntman: Ignition and a Stuntman:Ignition baseball cap. Wearing it would be the equivalent of Ralph Lauren turning up to work in an Asda/George shirt. Suffice to say, it will be traded in for a portion towards Mass Effect.

At least when East used it, it was funny. Jimmy Carr can't make me laugh, since he can only take one approach to his humour. Watch 2005 Live and see how many different ways he delivers a joke. One.

I dunno, he still makes me laugh.

I know I'm going to get e-mails over this one...

Jimmy Carr's an odd one. He can get me laughing when he's on QI, but I can't stand the vast majority of his stand-up work.

Anyway, I didn't get much, just a few Wii games, a couple of sweaters and a QI DVD game which doesn't bloody work properly. I've also spent the day largely by myself since everyone else I know was either at work or scattered across the country.

I'd have to agree. He's great when he's a contestant or a presenter, but his stand up just doesnt seem all that up with it.

Nothing. She's been told twice.

Anyway: I like Jimmy Carr for one reason: he tends to go where I've yet to see another comedian go. Others tend to just spout crap you're expecting. I think the only other comedian I even like is Jack Dee for his brilliant performance as the hopeless nobody in Lead Balloon.

On the note of Carr: I got his book for Christmas and I've gotten to the beginning of chapter 2 and I like it.
