None of this namby-pamby "you might get hurt" nonsense. No, they go for the full on "YOUR FACE WILL MELT IF YOU ARE UNSAFE." Or "YOU WILL EXPLODE AND DIE". Or "YOU WILL GET IMPALED BY STEEL RODS." Or "YOU WILL FALL AND SLICE OPEN ALL OF YOUR FAVORITE BLOOD VESSELS." Is Canada the inspiration for the Final Destination movies or something? |

Yikes...although I guess when you've seen those commercials long enough you eventually become desensitised to them. I've seen this advert so much that it actually makes me want to go 50mph to make sure she shuts up. |

I've seen some pretty nasty ads down here in Australia too. There's one I don't think they show on TV, but we saw it when a bunch of driver's ed people came around to school. It had a guy flipping into someone's backyard and killing a little kid who was playing with his dad, and the father picks up his corpse and cries. Bloody nuts. |

I saw Assault on Precinct 13 for the first time a few days ago. If anybody haven't seen it, it shows a little girl getting shot by a gang member while her father is yards away. One of the nastiest scenes I've ever witnessed in a movie... |

Holy shit... THAT'S AWESOME! I mean, yeah, the whole "accident" term is used a whole lot, and those are often gory beyond belief (I used to work with grease, so the woman in the first one kind of freaked me out) but does it ever get a point across. Mostly because they make sure to go, "Yeah, the company should keep up on this crap, but it's also my fault" which means it just wins in the whole equal-blame concept. The first video is the best of the worst, though. That woman knew how to scream bloody murder so well, I could swear she was actually getting burnt to frenchfry levels of crispiness. Hmmm.... |

Which is why I'm never going into remote villages who conveniently won any best of awards. But man, pretty serious stuff. Quite the contrast though to this German forklift driving video which goes for gore for the sake of comedy. Oh its a parody video btw. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sdjt6Bl5qdY&e |

It was an advert for ninjas, right? P.S. I'm not sure why the woman in the last one blamed the ladder. It didn't fall apart or even contribute to the accident in any way short of not being permanently bolted to the ground. /nitpick. |

I love the way she falls. It's so comical. That's not to say I don't take a message from this PSA. I mean, it's taught me to never pour hot oil on my face but I've never, ever seen someone fall like that without it being staged. |

There is a reason that I don't have cable, and that is one of them. I'm surprised that the CRTC hasn't sanctioned them yet... It's a little much, and I seriously doubt that those ads are going to do any good. No one gives a shit, because we are all just expendible peons in the grand scheme of things, easily replaced. Kind of like the nameless ensigns on Star Trek, or Soldier A/B/whole alphabet in a standard animé. |

Wow, they only showed us the guy slicing open his leg with the chainsaw, the woman falling off the roof and breaking her back, the guy getting run over with the forklift, and the guy getting his face smashed in with something I can't remember now when I took those work safe classes in high school. |

They could have made them all better by adding "Calm down dear, it's only a commercial!". We also have a couple : Get your coat. You're going to prison. DON'T RUIN YOUR PIZZA. Different voiceover, but yeah, another. |

Aww man I remember that one. I have to agree that freaked me out a bit then too. Anyone remember that one in the pub? Think it's still showing on tv. 2 guys sit down in a pub, girl walks past, they smile, she suddenly shashed in front of the table like a car. It was more disconcerning that the rest of the room was absolutely normal, a guy just walked past the bloodied corpse. |

These videos are a waste of time. All I've learned is not to trust German fork-lift drivers and that when I'm doing my job I shouldn't distract myself by talking to the camera. And that pineapples on pizza is gross. |

9000 isn't really a translation error. It's just a line that sounds rather silly out of context. (and even in context) |

Yes but I would like to know who came up with that error, according to the japanese version it should say. It's greater than 9000! Anyway, the very first link on this topic scared me greatly, maybe I'll cross chef of my possible job list. The scream scared me much more than the visual. |

"It's over 9000!" IS the actual line. Sure, in Japanese it's probably "He is of a level greater than 9000!" or something, but that's the basic translation. There is NO error: or at least not one along lines of "All your base are belong to us". The meme gained popularity mostly due to Vegeta's pitch when he said the line. It's fairly humorous, and quickly became a meme simply because you could apply it to just about everything. It's flexible, and funny for anyone who knows about DBZ (which is most of the world, or at least the parts that matter). Liken it to "This is SPARTA!" because they're basically the same thing. |
