"The reason behind that is we find that in some cases the little kids can get a little bit scared of the deep 'ho, ho, hos' and we ask them to be mindful of keeping their voices to a lower level," he said.

"And kids are probably more inclined to understand 'ha, ha, ha', than 'ho, ho, ho'."

I guess Australia won't be getting presents any time soon.

Notice that they assume kids are more likely to understand, not actually confirm. Like since when was there a large pandemic of children fearing the ho ho ho? It's like that call for santa claus staff to shed weight as they don't want to give off the wrong impression of obesity.

What? so whats changed since the creation of a fat santa claus roaming around our city centres?

I hate this, people pointlessly changing things like this and justifying it by saying it's for children's good, but clearly they have never listened to a child's opinion on this, as those children quoted in the article show and by the fact that when I was a kid, it didn't bother me or any other kids at all. Lighten up guys!

For the record, we all think this is insanely stupid too.

Someone get me a golf club (or in the spirit of the season, a giant candy cane) and point me in the direction of the people responsible for this.

At least it's a long awaited opportunity for santas to say "Ho ho ho, fuck the rules," and thereby teach kids the true meaning of Christmas.

That's more or less what is happening. I'm pretty sure they'll be a public laughing stock by Christmas.

I HOPE anyway...

Something about Australia trying to latch on to problems of real countries by making shit up or something?

Yeah, Yahtzee has an answer to everything.

Oh, boy...

It's bad enough that Santa makes his appearances in shopping malls in the second week of November here in Canada, but changing the image?

I think that it's a good thing that I'm a toon-head: I'm fairly in tune with my inner child.

Right now, my inner child is saying, IT'S SANTA, YA DUMBASSES! LET THE KIDS MAKE THEIR OWN DECISIONS! Besides, some kids are just far too young to be anywhere near big strange men holding them, and react by crying. I did that myself for years myself until I was about 5 years old or so, when I was able to comprehend who this man was supposted to be, and put some trust in him.

But the thing is, that the whole Santa thing that we have going on? It was an image created by an artist commisioned by Coca-Cola for their X-mas promotion back in... err... the thirties? I need to look that up.

Jussec...

I'm wrong. http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/santa.asp

Personally, I don't like Santa anymore. He just makes me mad, and drives me closer towards insanity, along with the gawd-awful christmas crap they have running 24/7 in the malls and the decorations. I avoid the shopping centers like the plague as much as possible during the "holiday season" that lasts two months, if not longer... I love shopping online!

Christmas in Canada starts two weeks before Hallowe'en. I think that Australia and Canada can be somewhat on par with this...

I'm sure that when children cry around Santa Clauses' it's due to the person being a stranger and the children wanting to go back to be with their parents, not the ho ho hoing ><

Kids are scared of Santa going "Ho Ho Ho?" I thought they'd be more scared of getting coal in their stockings than the laughing.

At least that's what I was more scared of when I was five/six years old.

Apparently the company responsible for this mess is based in Adelaide.

If it weren't so hot out, I'd get a hard blunt object and head downtown...

Why the fuck would Australia think kids would be scared of Santa? Of his "ho ho ho"-ing moreso? He's a big, fat, old geezer who miraculously goes around the world in one night, and gives all of the good peeps free stuff. Who WOULDN'T trust a guy like that? Though I admit, a person sneaking into someone's house can be a bit on the creepy side...

We have the dumbest PC groups in the world is why. As Yahtzee said, we have a tendency to jump on bandwagon issues that roll in from important countries and take things way too far.

He knows when your are sleeping,
He knows when you're on the can,
He'll hunt you down and blast your ass from here to Pakistan.
You better not breathe, you better not move,
You're better off dead, I'm telling you, dude.
Santa Claus is gunning you down.

Down in the workshop all the elves were makin' toys
For the good Gentle girls and the good Gentle boys
When the boss busted in, nearly scared 'em half to death
Had a rifle in his hands and cheap whiskey on his breath
From his beard to his boots he was covered with ammo
Like a big fat drunk disgruntled Yuletide Rambo
And he smiled as he said with a twinkle in his eye,
"Merry Christmas to all - now you're all gonna die!"

AFter those 2 hilarious posts, I'm strangely reminded of VG Cat's take on Santa's method of checking requests, Death Note style.
