I can imagine that hover tanks would be an absolute bitch to control and little use on a battlefield...

Well, hate to sound cheesey, but if they have pilots who train enough the tank could be manouvered easily enough.

Driving on ice is driving on ice. I'm guessing the reaction times of a fighter jet pilot along with the precision of Lewis Hamilton are required just to keep one in a straight line. Manoeuvrability will always be a disadvantage.

Going back to James Bond, in Die Another Day when they had those hover tanks, they were all over the place! Go watch the bit where the baddie dramatically introduces them for the first time. At least two are beginning to spin out of control.

You realise that was of course movie and dramatic flair. The actual reality of armoured hovercrafts frankly hasnt been explored, or at least not released to the general public.

I think mostly because hovercrafts have a tendency to flip over and explode when put on rough water.

A swampy/muddy terrain is perfect for them though... imagine if they had those in Nam.

Of course. My point is that hovercrafts are a bitch to control and if hover tanks were manufactured for military use then manoeuvrability and targeting would be pretty poor.

Frankly, I don't see anything wrong with the ol' track belts and camouflage paint. :P
