The question is: will American T.V. now get worse... or better?

You know, there's a time and place for unions. Where they can do a lot of good. But not right now in America. People wonder why companies are outsourcing and our economy blows. I'm one of those people who blame a whole heap on the unions. For, currently, all unions seem do in America is run into they're employers office and yell, "We want free money!" So in the interest of keeping there employees as employees, they get their salaries raised. But wait a minute, if you spend money there, you got to add some elsewhere to keep afloat, so then the price of the product suffers. Then the cycle continues. Yes, the idea of free money is awesome, but I feel a lot of people need to wake up and realize that the best way too earn money is work honestly for it. Le gasp!

I've already debated the possible results of this.

Possibility #1: Much, much more reality TV (most likely... *chainsaw seppeku*)

Possibility #2: More foreign shows (Bollywood?)

Possibility #3: Better writing for video games (bout time)

Possibility #4: Televised fanfic. *chainsaw nunchuck seppeku*

South Park may have problems too, since that is almost as quickly made about current events.

Though I'm pretty sure Matt and Trey will be able to keep it going on their own until things cool down.

Does South Park have any other writers then Matt and Trey?

Probably. They may have created the show but probably haven't always done everything on their own.

I also thus doubt they'd be members of the writer's union, something to do with their 'lolbertarian' political stance or something.

Hehe, lolbertarian.

Why do I get the feeling asking you anything just leads to you exposing your own ignorance?

They are allowed to strike, you know. It's not something emplyees enter into lightly: they're missing a week's pay, and running the risk of losing their jobs altogether. It's something you only do if you feel you're being genuinely mistreated, not because you want 'free money'. And if they feel they have a genuine grievance, then good on them. I'm quite prepared to miss a week or two of a few shows so that they can exercise their right to strike.

Yeah... in the 1800s, when workers were routinely screwed over by Big Industry.

Nowadays, it's all about the money. More money, less hours and the illusion of "job security" in a globalized marketplace.

To be fair, what will I miss? Heroes. Oh no.

Go for it lads.

Unlike, say, the Postal Service, who were arseholes. What with them being kinda necessary and resulting in dozens of small businesses that rely on the postal service to keep them running getting screwed royally.

I've nothing wrong with people striking, but some industries (Oddly enough, the ones people rely on a great deal, like the post or the Tube) do seem a bit too eager to leap in.

I don't have any problem with people striking when it doesn't affect ME!! [/americanselfcenteredness]

Yeah, from what I can tell, they do have a legit grievance. But I'm still going to find a gaping hole in my morning without Stewart/Colbert clips on Motherload.

Reckon the talent will flock to video games? Those could use some half-decent writing.

Apparently shows like The Hills will be affected by the strike. Which might bring us a new sub-genre to reality tv. Real reality tv!

And I just have to say that I'm so glad that I don't have cable of any kind. No digital, satilite, or traditional tv at all.

I'm lucky if I get 1/2 of one of the 4 channels I'm supposed to get! And of the shit I've seen (and heard through the "snow"), I don't regret my decision. I just wish that the French channel SRC would come through... there are some good shows on that station... *shrugs* ah well. It's not a worry.

Besides, if there's a good show on TV, I'll buy it as a DVD box set. Which reminds me, my dvd player is just about worn out now...

I'm lucky if I get to watch tv once a month. They could be reruns now, and I wouldn't notice.

Will this affect Canadian-made tv? Do they even hire screenwriters?

I haven't watched tv in like 4 months. My life is muchos better without it. And the few shows I do watch eg Metalocalypse and House I just watch online. I have a huge ass backlog of things to watch (Sadly the days of doing nothing are gone) So I ca happily sit out a strike and also finally carve my way through Season 3 of Peep show and Finsh Genshinken.

Thank the gods for the internet. I also have the ability to watch favorite shows on YouTube and network sites (like NBC, etc.)
