Alone in the Dark

Because its the one movie that can destroy your mind in sheer horror at its creation.

I hate horror movies. I'm way too squeamish for them.

Predator was cool if you sympathise with the Pred though.

Horror movies are often lost on me.
It's quite difficult to scare me.

So, the choices go "Do you find various combinations of mutilation entertaining?" or "do you want to be (unsuccessfully) unnerved?"

No thanks, not interested.

The only saving grace the entire genre has is that it's largely so inneffective at what it claims to do that it's inherantly hillarious. At least when it's not so bad it just hurts.

I'll go with 'Martin'. If only because it's incredibly crap, has no substance or purpose, but there's something immortal about "you weren't supposed to be there! *twizzle twizzle twizzle stick in the neck ooh ketchup everywhere!*"

I like horror movies, but I find a lot of them start out good and end lame, like White Noise. The Grudge is one of my favourites, just because I like the thought of the characters being screwed and nothing they do can save them. The Shining, of course, is a classic.

A lot of people don't like western remakes of asian movies, because they become too Americanized, I guess, or they choose their cast based on fame rather than acting ability :P But I have to go see The Eye, because part of it was filmed in my faculty building. My friend left some strategically placed gummy bears that the cleaning staff missed, and while I don't think they made it into the shot, that's the kind of thing you need to check out.

John Carpenter's The Thing is my all-time favorite scary movie. I'll take both the suspense and the glorious gore, coupled with a healthy smattering of sci-fi. I have yet to see a more perfect collection of splatter, paranoid suspense and practical FX that still puts CGI to shame 25(!!) years later.

You know it's bad when you can sit through each Saw, which is supposed to be a wonderful horror thriller, and dictate exactly what will happen at least five minutes before it even gets to that point. What's worse is when you laugh at everyone else screaming, and get glared at it, because apparently the easily frightened didn't like that reaction.

Then I got kicked out of the movie theater...

I'm incredibly surprised that no-one's said Shaun of the Dead yet. Shame. Shame on you all.

Seconded! Add to that the always great Kurt Russell in the lead and just a hint of Lovecraft about the plot and procedings, and it easily ranks amongst the greatest movies ever.

Apart from that, I'd nominate An American Werewolf in London, one of the best horror comedies ever, a big inspiration for Shaun of the Dead, and with one of the single greatest special effects sequences of all time.

Yeah, I know what you mean, I like George Romero and his zombie movies and all, and I can see where he's going with it, but Martin really isn't his finest hour by a long-shot. It's kind of a precurser to the nineties style vampire movies, the ones with those very post-modern vampires that whine about being vampires all the bloody time (pun intended).

I wanna make a horror movie where a whole bunch of cliche serial killers (shameless ripoffs of Jigsaw, Hannibal, any more ideas?) all get incarcerated in the same asylum, but break out during a riot. Stuck in an area locked down by the police, they end up using their favourite methods against each other in a bloody, spectacular showdown.

I may not like watching horror movies, but I'm pretty sure I'd have a lot of fun making one. That and I can kill off characters who I like to see dead, it's the killing innocent people vibe that turns me off most horror.

Personally, I prefer the ridiculous gore flicks, if only because they are fun to watch. Currently Flesh For The Beast is my fave.

Vincent Price flicks are also high on my list, especially the Dr. Phibes movies as well as his Edgar Allan Poe adaptations. Brilliant.

Those are favorites of mine too, I was lucky enough to see "The Raven" on the big screen recently, that's a classic, it's hilarious! My favorite one of Price's though has to be his favorite, Theatre of Blood, because it's him doing Shakespeare and murdering snobbish critics, best concept ever! That Titus Andronicus scene is worth the price of admission alone!

For anyone interested in horror, James Rolfe, the man behind the Angry Video Game Nerd, has done an excellent little showcase of classic titles, one review a day all through October. It's a great tribute to some of the most influential and memorable films ever, and it presents quite a good range of titles. Here's the promo for the series, the rest are on the same account.

I'm a little miffed he didn't include The Shining on there (yes, it's my all-time favourite horror film, and I'm boring), but he covered a good range of titles. Nice to see some more obscure stuff get some attention.

I've hardly seen any Vincent Price horror movies, except Witchfinder General. Damn, he was a complete arsehole in that one.

There isn't a lot of horror, thriller, or suspense movies that I've liked in a long time. I would like to have seen saw 4 on Halloween, though. I haven't seen it yet. But 2 and 3 have been rather disappointing and I would have like to see how 4 turned out. Saw (one) was probably the only movie that messed with my head in a long time. Maybe even ever. *shrug* Though I did watch Nightmare Before Christmas again Lol. Seemed appropriate.

Cabin Fever. Mostly because it's just such a stupid, crap movie, but hilarious to see. When i watched it with a group of friends we spent most of the time laughing at it, due to the absurd storyline.
