I'd just like to point out one thing about the DVD market quickly.

In Japan, it's not unheard of to buy OVA releases a -single- episode at a time, on DVD, at nearly the same price.

...like I needed any more reasons to think the Japanese are insane.

Odd you would say that as a good example is Hellsing Ultimate, sold at DVD price each episode in the States. Granted, these OVA are well under an hour long each but it would contradict your idea.

Just thought I'd mention it.
