So, I have this absolutely convolutedly horrible employment issue going on that leaves me a lot of free-time to draw, both on the job (with the few hours they give me) and off. So, while sitting at the register watching it spit up "sign-off" sheets every five minutes and leaving me with an entire tree carcass by the end of the night, I start drawing on them so I feel a little less guilty about the deforestation. Sometimes, I get something I consider pretty decent.

That being said, this is Lothar as a 1920's bootlegger/Jazz age gangster. I was reading a lot of Lackadaisy at the time and it kinda just came out on accident. It's done entirely in pen on the back of a trash receipt and is thus messy as all get-out and

Well, I liked it, so I decided I would sketch it out for real. I'm not sure how much I love this rendition; I may have made him slouch too much, and my scanner is amazing at picking out things I didn't want to show up and not picking up things I like.

Oh, and it's not a violin case, it's much too big. Think of it more as a guitar case. More fire-power can fit inside.

So, thoughts? I'm searching my absolute horror of a room (yay reorganizing!) for my art supplies so I can blend some of the pencil into smoother shades, but until then, I think this is it.

Very nice pic there Dani. Posture looks awesome. I'd say you've kinda got the case halfway between a violin case and a guitar case.

Well, all depends on his height. Lothar's only got to be around 1 metre 15.

I'm not sure it matters terribly since I'm almost certain there is not actually a musical instrument in the case.

But, um...it could be a case for something other than a guitar, I suppose.

Thanks guys. ^-^

Ahh, Lackadaisy.

Great comic. Second only to Exterminatus Now, of course.
(Rocky's my favorite :D )

Yes, Rocky is the awesome.

I'm looking back at my picture and I realize the problem with the case: the neck is much too short to be a guitar. I'll probably go back and fix this once I complete a few more projects (and find better art stuff other than this pencil with a dying eraser).

Anything else you guys think could be fixed up/changed with the pic?

I think if you ever do East, you've got to give him a waistcoat and a Dalek tommy gun. On general principles.

Other than that, wootage, a cool pic.

Mmm...okay! I actually had considered doing a bunch of the cast with this kind of them. We'll see how it works out. :D

Doubla post.

Well, why not? I have the time. Around 15 minutes, and I really don't like it =(

I'm not sure it matters terribly since I'm almost certain there is not actually a musical instrument in the case.

I'm reminded of this episode of a show once where the main character started up a small illegal thing on school grounds and kept all the earnings in - you guessed it - a violin case.

So it's either money or explosives. I vote the latter.

Picture-wise, I'm slowly starting to like the style (movie wise) of the 1920s...if I'm identifying the right time period for once. I especially like Lothar’s face here, the look just goes with the theme. And you can draw hands that look like they’re clenched around something; that earns you ten points! The sketch looks really cool overall.

I can see what you mean about the slouching but I'm really bad for that when I do poses where characters are bending/lying backwards and such. If you were to fix it some more I would say bring in the lower half a little bit so that he's not bending so far backwards (it puts a strain on the back; best way to see this is to find a reflective surface such as a mirror and play with the posture yourself, it's what I tend to do) or try and fix it so that one of his legs is slightly further back than the other one which would make it better. Either way, it has to be obvious that there's support under him otherwise it looks painfully awkward.

Also there's some kind of pigeon chest thing here where the chest goes in more than the stomach does. Even if he's slouching it wouldn't be this noticeable so um, bulk up the chest a little so it protrudes a bit more? It wouldn’t matter too much if the lower half was tucked in more. But that’s just me.

Overall I do like the sketch. And I agree with Dark Comet, you should totally do the other guys like this. It'd be awesome.

PS – Thanks for the link: my bookmarks wiped themselves a few months back and I lost the link to the comic.

That was a nice sketch Pixel, I liked it.

This is fun. Everyone draw them, 1920's theme! Let's get some flapper girls in here. ;)

Thanks for the tips, Webmistress, I'll take them into consideration. :D And glad I could help out with the links. Any others you're missing?

Okay, I really, really tried to make more 1920-ish pics for the cast. The best I could do was this pic of Rogue looking all spiffy. Or he would, except my scanner didn't seem to like the picture either...

That makes me a little sad. You don't want to see the horrors that befell Eastwood and Virus. You...you just don't.

I did fix up Lothar, though, a bit.

And, as an apology for failing you (and 'cause it was just so much fun) I bring you non-anthropomorphised Rogue!
