I was practically forced to install MSN 7.5 if I intended to continue using the service. And instead of being the pretty clear, clean and useable space that existed once before, now I have a FUCKTON OF SHITE.

See AIM? You know why AIM is superior in every possible way? Because of the interface. No, it doesn't have Nudges and Packs and fuck knows what else clogging up the window. It has the bit to type, and the bit with stuff already sent/recieved. That's it. The Buddy List? It's just that guys, a list, with buddies. No million links to SHIT NO-ONE WITH A BRAIN USES, no retarded "tabs" to stuff that you don't want to use if you're talking to people ("Hmm, I wish to talk to my good friend, and I shall also do the lottery, look for a job and check the stock market at the same time! Because just using a browser like IE or Firefox is too hard!").

Seriously, if you seem to get off on including useless, space-consuming crap into a messanger package, add an option to switch it all off. Fucking hell, everyone else does. But I suppose you have to have a fuckton of crap that is utterly, utterly pointless for all the brain-dead chavs that seem to use it. I mean, fucking hell, what the hell is a Nudge? Why not just type "Oi, Lothar, are you there?"?

Bah, I just give up on it. As such, I'm uninstalling it off this machine, and switching back to AIM. Might be made my AOL, but it's not a rancid abomination like MSN has become.

And that is why I refuse to upgrade from the default Windows Messenger.

Hell, this insistance on integrating three metric tons of shit with every program is why I've done my best not to upgrade -any- integrated Microsoft program.

Heh, AIM pisses me off enough. I use Trillian for my AIM and a rather redudent ICQ account.

I too quite dislike all the adds for they are bothersome, and the nudges piss me off to no end, but i turned all of the tabs, nudges, etc. off. So it's not THAT unbearable anymore. I grew accustomed to it already and I'm fine with it.

I don't really care for AIM or otherwise for only about 20% of the people I communicate with have something other than MSN Messenger. And really Eastwood, if you dislike it then why not use windows messenger? none of that extra crap, and it's nice and simple, and clean as you say.

And with the links from the names, if you dont use them ignore them then? I don't see why that's something to complain about. There are some things that can be easily ignored/turned off so they don't get in your way, so I don't see the problem with some of this stuff you are mentioning.

Because the moment I touch it it starts switching itself on and off as and when it feels like it. So I went to great pains to remove it from my system.

As for removing most of the stuff from the interface... Couldn't find the option to do so. Otherwise I would have not uninstalled the damnable thing.

Three votes for Trillian! Would a program like that save you from IM woes East?

I used Trillian many moons ago.

There's a reason why I don't use it.

The main reason I dislike MSN is that you cannot use an older version, but it forces you to update it before you can chat with anyone. AIM does lose some of its functionality with age, but you can still use an old one if you don't feel like updating it or find the older versions preferable.

If upgrades keep going though I could see a messanger 100.0 or something, it's pointless in my eyes

I use both. I prefer AIM, though. I just ignore all that useless crap.

frankly i go with Yahoo all the way... it has tabs like you say MSN does (i've never had MSN in my life lol) but they are so far out of the way... ya wanna send something? Just drag it into the window... thats pretty much the most noteworthy feature in my eyes that i can think of at the moment... other than that its not that special from AIM

AIM likes to fuck around with my sound settings. As I want to keep my eardrums I don't like an app cranking up my system up to 11 and screaming a Flash ad at me while I have my headphones on. So I use Trillian Basic 3 and have no problems with it.
