The setting sun marks not only the end of a day, but the end of my life as a civillian. As of around 11:00 December 19 2005, I am a Private in the Army National Guard, Cannon Crewmember in Battery A 1st Battalion 258th Field Artillery. I'll ship out to Basic on Febuary 22nd. It's funny, when I took the oath of enlistment, I got a feeling of something being lifted off of me, and something swelling in my chest. I'm going to go ahead and classify it as a swelling of pride. Minutes after I took a pair of scissors graciousley provided by one of the guys at the Guard Liason office, and in front of everyone cut off my scalp lock. I was going to throw it away, but they said "don't leave it here." That's an odd thing to say. I mean, it's just hair. Afterwards, SSGT Casey and I drove to the Newburg Armory to meet the guys who'll be in charge of me untill I'm MOS qualified. The Sergeant in charge of me until I ship out has been to Iraq more times than anyone else in the unit, he bought an SUV with the money he got from it, and after talking to me for an hour and a half, he called me weird. I think I accomplished alot today. So, In closing, Private Edward Mayhue Ramsey = 1, Military Enlistment Processing Command = 0. Posted Image |

No, i'm just really pleased with myself after getting jerked around for half a year, and finally getting everything in order and enlisting, and those asshole doctors at MEPS not being able to do a thing about it. the picture, though, is a joke. intended souley for humor. You know what's crazy? they make you read a whole pamphlet regarding unacceptable conduct, and most of it revolves around gay sex. |

Just remeber to say 'No' if the British guys ask you to come to a party to 'let off steam." And also remember the old saying-"Friendly fire-isn't." As a side-note one of my university friends father was in the airforce for a good while and did a stint in the first Iraq pow-wow. Aparently one American GI showed him a booklet the US army gave out on how to interact with the locals and aliies. On the page concerning the British was this warning:
Nice to see the military doing it's bit for Trans-Atlantic relations, eh? |

As the old saying goes; Americans drink to have fun, French drink to be social, and the British drink like someone is going to take it away from them. Good job Major Maxillary. Might wanna change your name to Private now though. And as for the pamphlet mostly being about homosexuality, there ARE reasons behind that. The only problem is whether or not they will make sense to you. 1. The US Army was founded on the values of its forefathers and founders. They were all Christian and therefore found homosexuality immoral. Many people still think it is today. As they don't approve of it, they instituted the Don't Ask Don't Tell (DADT) policy to ensure gays could still fight for their nation. (Still, they're easy to identify. They're the best dressed soldiers in their squad. Yeeeeah I'm gonna be shot now...) 2. The DADT policy is about more than just homosexuality. All things that are not outwardly visible, such as religion, political beliefs, etc. are all under the DADT policy because they believe some people may be treated unfairly or differently because of it. Homosexuality makes a lot of people uncomfortable, and because it is something not dealt with on a daily basis by most, nor is it one considered a moral trait to have by the United States Government, it is the only quality on the DADT that you can be discharged for. Whether or not you believe something is moral or not doesn't seem like a big issue when it comes to right to serve, but the fact is, the military is about honor, and if you do something immoral, should not be allowed to serve in it. This is the state of mind under which this was instituted. |

The pamphlet they had me read was on seperation pay, eg. the pay you get for being away from your significant other, but most of it was geared towards how various people/items don't qualify. things like inflatible novelties, horses, and members of the same sex. also, most of the nation's founders were either athiests or deists. it's just that the mases dislike homosexuality. I'm going to keep my title Major for now, as i do intend on being an actual major, and that "Major Maxillary" just isn't a pun without the "Major". you know, "Major Maxillary?" |

Nnnno, I don't. I thought Maxillary was a name. Is there some hidden joke I'm not seeing? And I don't think the Founding Fathers were atheists or there would not be mentions of God in the founding documents. And, yeah, since the United States as a whole does not recognize same sex marriage, the military cannot ratify it. As for the masses disliking homosexuality, considering how people voted for George Bush in the last election, it's probably a 50.5%/49.5% split. So close you could cut the tension with a knife. |

To clear this up, they would have all been somewhat near Christianity as how it was in the 1600's+ when churches were highly powerful in society (you know, the age and day where they made it 10% of your work Salary goes to the church?). America is a highly Christian country, as is George Bush. Judging how religious he is, he will probably deny it to keep in line with the bible. But who knows.

If I'm not mistaken, there is not a mention of God in the US Constitution. Though I'd have to get a text file of it and search it to be sure. |

I direct you to the now debauched pledge of allegiance. In its orignal form, it is: "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all." |

That doesn't make the Founders devout christians, they were ploiticians. I know Thomas Jefferson was a Deist, along with a few others. In the constitution they Mention God because that how it was in that time, God was the one who bestowed freedom on man or something. however, the "Under God", and "In God we trust," is something that allegedly came about in the Mcarthy era. before that, only a few states minted coins with "In God we trust" on them aparently. and Major Maxillary has two literal meanings; it's the name of your upper mandible, and it's also a victorian era euphenism for penis. |

Well, regardless, the nation was both founded and made into a Christian country and as such follows Christian values. At least it's supposed to anyway, but its actions say otherwise. I don't wanna live in the US, I live in Canada, but one thing I do envy is people saying Merry Christmas without fear of reprisal in public places... |

I'm completely lost as to what you are trying to say. The nation may have a de facto Christian majority, but there is freedom to practice as you wish and no declared state religion. And Congress is specifically told in the Bill of Rights that it can never declare one. |

exactly, America is a secular nation, has been since inception. We just didn't find out what "Secular" means until recently. Zing! and again, this pamphlet was on seperation pay, i just wasn't paying much attention and therefore didn't remember what it was about until i read Speacialist Skippy's list and remembered that pamphlet was about seperation pay. It's funny how my mind works. |

Oh, sweet lord Abadon...now THAT'S Taking freedom too far-having a horse as a significant other. The founding Fathers of the US were of Christian churches-they just weren't upstanding Christians by the Conservative rights standards today. George Washington grew hemp and Thomas Jefferson was apparently an extermely foul mouthed SOB. |
